Sherlock - The Abominable Bride (Download): Standalone Sherlock episode that I should've watched inbetween season 3 and 4 but only last night found out existed. Luckily it doesn't interfere with the overall plot so it doesn't really matter if I saw it in order (only for the framework of the episode itself it matters because it picks up right where season 3 ends). It does this clever thing where it sets itself in the 19th century so for once the series looks and feels more like classic Holmes. The case on hand isn't the best ever but, like most episodes, it's carried by the characters (transported into their respective roles in the 19th century).

Nocturnal Animals (Download): Liked it, didn't quite get it (all) though but that's what repeated viewings are for. Jake Gyllenhaal is quickly becoming my favorite actor with a series of movies in the last 5 years I've loved him in, like End of Watch, Everest, Prisoners, Enemy, Nightcrawler, Demolition and now Nocturnal Animals... And let's not forget he was already Donnie Darko 16 years ago...
The Missing - Season 1 (Epi 1-5) (Bluray): British series with Belgian roots (money and people) about a child going missing and the re-opening of the case 8 years later. Very serious and dry (not like the Five, which I saw a while ago) but mysterious and interesting enough to keep watching. 3 more episodes to go tonight.

War of the Worlds (DVD): With the wife and kids, lol, still, didn't hear any complaints. Guess it was engaging enough for them to watch it without whining although the youngest said it was scary but then he usually does.
Hacksaw Ridge (Download): Mel 'Sugartits' Gibson's newest is a war movie about a remarkable man. The movie itself however, phew, what melodramatic drivel. Especially the first half is so awkward I often just burst out laughing at the silly lines the actors were trying to struggle through. I wouldn't be surprised if Hugo Weaving's line reading of a particulary awful war experience will make it to Hollywood Babble-on's Exquisite Acting segment one of these weeks. The second part, the war stuff is better (or at least less cringe-worthy) but it looks like they tried too hard to out-gore Saving Private Ryan to the point that too became comical at several times, especially when one guy picks up a torso and uses it as a shield while advancing, guns blazing, towards a Japanese machine gun post. Looks like something out of a parody movie...
The Missing - Season 1 (Epi 6-8) (Bluray): The guy I picked out in the very first episode happened to be the guy that did it. I was disappointed about that to be honest. Anyway, all storylines get adequate closure and it was good enough to waste 8 hours with, but I don't think I'll be watching it again anytime soon. Probably should've just downloaded it but I could only get a bluray set of the first 3 seasons of Sherlock for cheap if I bought a second item and this was the only thing that looked interesting enough...
Bad Santa 2 (Download): Not a classic like the first but, if I'm honest, a lot better than anticipated. Laughed out loud several times, which is more than most comedy movies manage nowadays. Kathy Bates, as Bad Santa's mom, is a great addition to the cast. I'd buy it, if it was cheap, preferable in a boxset with the first, which I don't have on bluray yet anyway...

Myra Breckinridge(1970): Making my way through all the worst movies ever made. Man what a boring pile of crap. Was supposed to be Mae West's comeback roll but she barely had screen time. Was shocking for 1970s audience but boring and pointless for 2017. Nothing really happens. I had to force myself to watch it.

There are films that ARE so bad they're good but why waste your time watching dross (like that film was ever going to get good) when there are countless actually decent films out there you could watch? Put on Masters of the Universe and skip to/fap over the bits with Evil-Lyn.

Das Versprechen (TV): aka The Promise/Killing for Love. German documentary about Jens Söring, the son of a German diplomat who confessed to killing the parents of the girl he was madly in love with because he figured he had... DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY! ...a decision he's regretting after some 30 years in jail. He most likely didn't do it, she did, and he was too much in love to let her take the fall but in spite of all the evidence in his favour that has come out over the years, the guy can't seem to get a break and will most likely spend the rest of his life in jail.

Macross Plus (Download/DVD): Took some effort to get it to work (see other thread) but finally managed to rewatch one of my favorite anime in very acceptable quality. Best quality I've ever seen it in at least.
Doctor Strange 3D (3D Download): FINALLY! I've been waiting to watch this in 3D since it first came out. I'd messed up when I saw it in the theatre and showed up when only a 2D version was showing but it was clear this movie was a prime candidate for the 3D treatment. It sure was. Especially that funky sequence when he's first shown the multiverse is a work of art in 3D. Now the long wait for the 3D bluray to become affordable begins...
Wicked City (DVD): Looks like I'm getting the classic manga bug again (I'm also watching the original Robotech series for the first time... ...36 episode, eek), so what better movie to rewatch than one of my all-time favorites, the part horror, part hentai Yoshiaki Kawajiri classic Wicked City. This, Akira and Ninja Scroll are the holy top 3 that got me into anime back in the '90s
XX (Download): Horror anthology directed entirely by women, which I have no problem with... ...but the first segment was awful and the second was pretty weaksauce as well. I was about ready to give up. Luckily the 3rd one was OK. Not great but there was some fun to be had. Would've been the weaker segment in a great anthology but here it was considerably more enjoyable than the first two. Then, against all odds, they completely redeemed the movie with the 4th segment, which was great, a sort of Rosemary's Baby sequel...

Even when I was a kid and watched Lethal Weapon 2 I knew that "I have diplomatic immunity so I can gun people down without consequence" was bullshit. I mean come on some South African dude kill police officers and the USA does nothing? I mean, come on now.

Blue Ruin (Bluray): It was on TV this weekend and I recommended it to as many people as I could. So of course I had to rewatch it as well so I could counter all their arguments of why it wasn't as great as I made it out to be I just like the director's style and these types of nihilistic movies in general. I even considered watching the Rover following this, but in the end I settled for another depressing movie... Open Grave (Bluray): Sharlto "I didn't have sex with no creature" Copley wakes up in a pit amongst corpses having lost his memory and must piece back together what happened together with some other people that also all lost their memory. It's a twist on zombie movies which I rather enjoyed... Go North (Download): Some apocalyptic event that's left intentionally vague made it so only kids survived. A bunch of them are holed up inside a school, trying to get some kind of society going, Lord of the Flies-style. 2 of them decide they've had enough and... ...wait for it... ...go north to see what's up there... Ultimately a bit meh even though the start certainly is promising. It just peters out towards the end and a few things that were hinted at never get paid off.

The Jinx - The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst (Download): Das Versprechen put me in the mood for more True Crime docs and it just so happened I saw a list in a newspaper with a couple of suggestions among which was the Jinx. And boy, what a ride that was. Incredible stuff. What a strange character that Robert Durst is. Highly recommended 6-part documentary series...
I'm already over halfway in another series (The Staircase) and Belgian TV has started showing OJ Made in America, which I'm recording but might download if I start watching it and can't wait for the rest to be broadcast...

The Staircase (Download): 8-episode look at a murder trial (look up the details for yourself) that was interesting all the way through but in the end I regret watching. The final episode made me angry and disappointed and I can't believe that is what those 12 people decided. Of course I don't have all the facts (the trial took 60 days) but it's clear there was a lot of bias and prejudice in that jury box. Edit: I now also know who that annoying TV-host in Gone Girl is based upon... Edit2: Talk about timing. Finished watching this series on the exact same day this happens: abc11.com/news/plea-in-wifes-death-lets-peterson-maintain-innocence/1770722/

The Hateful Eight (Bluray): What to say that hasn't been said before? RIP antique guitar, I guess, lol.
I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore (Download): Blue Ruin/Green Room Macon Blair actor directs his own movie, a sort of indie Falling Down, starring pretty much a female version of himself and Frodo Baggins who take it upon themselves to retreive items that were stolen from her home after the police is unwilling to do anything and, of course, get caught up in a downward spiral of violence. Fun and darkly funny.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3D (3D Bluray): Can't wait for the next movie. Most anticipated movie of the year, even moreso than the new Star Wars...

Passengers (Download): Didn't have high expectation after reading the comment 'romcom in space', the reason why I didn't go see it in the theatre, but it actually wasn't quite as bad as anticipated. Plotholes galore and cliché plot, but enjoyable for the most part nonetheless. Still, man stranded in vastness of space has been done better in the Martian...
The Hidden (Download/DVD): One of my favorite '80s movies. Came across an HD version by accident but couldn't pass up the opportunity. Chances of that movie showing up here on bluray are incredibly slim. My DVD is already the region 1 and I've never come across a region 2 version of that either. So until a region B bluray shows up, this'll be the way I'll watch it in the future.
You're Next (Bluray): One of the better 'slashers' of recent years.
Princess (DVD): Danish animated movie about a guy caring for the 5y old daughter of his deceased pornstar sister and his crusade to destroy all of her pornographic material and get to the guy he deems responsible for her death. Depressing stuff.

Claudia Christian/Commander Ivanova from B5 as a stripper ftw! P.S. If you ever get a chance to see Hexed, go for it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0107107/Alan Spencer is the guy behind Sledge Hammer! and the more recent Bullet in the Face. BITF is just hilariously over the top violent and good. www.imdb.com/title/tt1772157

ROFL, I liked that Bullet in the Face trailer. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
Aliens (Bluray): In memory of the "ULTIMATE BADASS™" "Yeah man, but it's a dry heat!" RIP Hicks... "He's Hicks, sir, I'm Hudson"...
The Dallas Buyer's Club (TV): Remarkable story of how a guy that was given just 30 days to live managed another 8 years or so, helping countless other people prolong their life as well as his own. Also: Jared Leto makes a hot tranny. I'd do her...
Black (TV): Belgian flick by the guys that were contacted to direct the new Beverly Hills Cop flick. Well, technically the movie was solid but I had all kinds of problems with the characters and their morals. It's basically a Romeo & Juliet story about how a Moroccan guy in some Brussels gang falls in love with a black girl who happens to belong to another gang, comprised of black Africans. The Moroccans are petty thieves and small time crooks and the blacks are (group) rapists that deal hard drugs. Moral of the story: if you fuck around with a black gang, the black gang is going to fuck you. Hard to identify or even feel the slightest bit of symphaty for any of the characters. Movie ended with a quote I think will be really funny for American audiences. Apparently in Brussels, since 2002, there have been 23 gang related killings... Lol, I think they'll find that really funny in cities like LA and the like...
Slaughterhouse Rock (Download): '80s horror flick that started promising and funny but lost all its appeal and momentum halfway though and kept on dragging to the end.

Speaking of movies where it is hard to feel sympathy Menace II Society was like that. The main character basically brags about how he has better things to do with his time then go to high school and so he barely graduated. Then proceeds to be a street dealer and a killer, then when he gets killed we are supposed to think "wow what a tragedy"

O.J. - Made in America (TV/Download): Recorded the first two episodes but as I started watching I knew I wouldn't be able to wait 3 more weeks to watch the rest so I downloaded those and watched all of it in about 3 days time. Amazingly complete documentary about a complex person and the crazy race-related storm he found himself in the center of. Even though he tried his best to not be considered black, in the end his colour was the only thing that kept him out of prison after murdering 2 people... ...and then karma caught up with him. Powerful stuff.

A ton of groans but the few black kids in my class started cheering. It divided the whole country by race. Honestly I was glad it was all over because outside of Naked Gun I had no clue who the hell OJ even was till he was arrested and on the TV all the time.

Mardock Scramble - The First Compression (Bluray) Mardock Scramble - The Second Combustion (Bluray) Mardock Scramble - The Third Exhaust (Download)
Still don't quite know what this is all about, it's one of those anime with people talking in philosophy quotes. They try to make it all seem extremely serious but then characters show up with the following names: Flesh the Pike, a hacker who has breasts transplanted onto his body. Mincemeat the Wink collects eyes and has them transplanted into his body. Rare the Hair, duh, collects hair and skin. Medium the Fingernail: collects fingers and then of course there's Welldone the Pussyhand, use your own imagination on that one... And they're called these weird English names even in the Japanese version. Really really strange. But the movie looks amazing and despite being slow in places, it's easy to sit through (always something weird going on somewhere)...
Don't Kill It (Download): Somewhat too low-budget horror comedy starring Dolph Lundgren as a demon hunter, hunting a demon that jumps bodies. If you kill the person possessed, you're now possessed, which is certainly an interesting dynamic but the movie could've used a little more money (for the gore) and some better actors (not Lundgren, the smaller parts). Still, it'll be hard to pass up if I find it cheap.
Krampus (Bluray): I think I'll try this with the kids next Christmas.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Bluray): The youngest doesn't like it when they talk Japanese or Chinese in movies (not like he understands English any better) so with him away for the weekend, what a better time to watch this flick with the oldest (and the wife). Still one of my favorite anime movies. Being a sucker for time travel movies in the first place, this movie is also very sweet and innocent and the characters are very likeable. I love the Japanese voice actress that does the lead, her laugh is completely infectious and when she cries it just breaks my heart.
Weird Science (DVD): RIP Bill Paxton, the older brother from hell...
Network (Download): Considered a classic and easy to see why. I was amazed to see just how in tune a movie from the seventies still is with the current media climate. That being said, I did start to lose interest somewhat around the halfway point, when the redundant love story is introduced.
Showgirls (DVD): Probably the DVD I had for the longest time without ever having watched it. I'd rented the movie before and didn't want to spend any money on it, but it is a Verhoeven flick so I wouldn't mind having it in my collection, just for its cult status. In 2009, I traded my old CRT computer monitor to a colleague for it and Timecop, lol, so 8 years it has been sitting there unwatched...
Kite - Director's Cut (Download): The 50 minutes of ultraviolence and sex in this cult anime was exactly what I needed to finish off the night...

Bullet in the Face - Epi 1-6 (Youtube): Only found torrents with 0 seeds but I did find all episodes on youtube, sadly in pretty crappy quality, certainly not suitable to be watched on a TV or even fullscreen on a computer monitor, so I watched 1 episode a day during the break at work on my PS Vita. Enjoyable nonsense that made me laugh a few times "I have decided that you should have the baby here. We have everything here we need for delivery. We have... ...balloons. We havvvvvve... ... ...mainly balloons."

The Red Pill (2016): I first heard about this documentary what 2 or 3 years ago? A feminist filmmaker went out to document the Men's Right Movement(MRAs) but found out her previous sponsors wanted nothing to do with it if she didn't do a full on hit job instead of a documentary. Finished with crowd funding.
Pretty good. Everyone knows men get screwed over in family court but nothing has really been done about it. Solid documentary. Unlike Beware the Slenderman it didn't feel like its runtime was padded. I'd recommend it.

That subreddit has some real howlers. They give good basic advice tho. Want girls to like you? Cut your hair. Wear decent clothing not stained sweatpants. Go to the fucking gym. Very basic and good advice. Some of the posts go off the deep end however. Also her documentary is NOT about those people. /r/redpill is dudes looking to get laid, MRAs are about social issues.
