Logan (Theatre): So that's how claws through a skull look. Interesting. I liked the Wolverine/X/girl dynamic but I can't but feel a little disappointed by the finale. The rest of the movie is crafted so well, which makes the ending seem rushed. Geriatric mutants were the best part.

Making a Murderer (Download): 10-part true crime Netflix series and probably the last one I'll see because as interesting and compelling as they are to watch, they're starting to piss me off with the injustice displayed in them. This one was the worst by far in that regard and while I agree I wasn't present during the trial and have to rely on what the filmmakers chose to show me, there simply are too many things that don't make sense or are just a little too convenient. I'm glad at least 1 person, the sleaziest of them all, got a bit of poetic justice. It's things like these that make you wish there actually is an afterlife and a god and you have to sit in judgement before him when you die.
Hell or High Water (Download): Rewatch of one of my favorite movies from last year as I patiently wait for the bluray to become available and/or cheap enough for me to buy.
Population Zero (Download): Being so engrossed in true crime stories as of late, I wondered what this faux-documentary (or mockumentary) about murders that occured in Yellowstone National Park might bring to the table. Well, it wasn't quite as compelling as a real crime story but at least it came up with an interesting twist at the end which made up for the somewhat dry-ish, boring middle part of the movie...

Elle (Download): Don't quite know what to make of Paul Verhoeven's latest. Woman gets assaulted and raped in her own home but decides to not involve the police due to things that happened in her past. Later she befriends that rapist, first without her knowing but then after she finds out, continues to see him... ...I just couldn't make head or toe about her reasoning.
Ticks (Download): '90s creature feature starring a very young Seth Green and Alfonso Ribeiro as a tough inner city youth (now there's something you don't see every day). In any case, a group of kids go to the woods, it's infected with huge ticks, people die. Remember renting this on VHS but I wasn't a huge fan back in the day. Maybe, seeing how I've become more of a gorehound since then, I might appreciate it more nowadays but to be honest, it still wasn't all that remarkable. Liked the practical FX but that was about it.
Galaxy of Horrors (Download): Anthology movie with a horror/scifi theme but all a bit cheaper and more filmstudent-y than usual. Took me 2 tries to get to the end of this because by the time I'd seen the first 3 I was willing to give up. A friend convinced me to keep watching and amongst the turds I found one diamond and a few pretty stones. -Wraparound: guy wakes up from cryosleep and is forced to watch these episodes because he can't remember the password - score: shit/10 -Eden: Don't know, some future society is being overrun by suicide squads, the air is toxic, people turn into vampires, looks a bit half life 2 with the gas masks. Couldn't quite follow, looked too cheap - score: shit/10 -Iris: Siri-type app called Iris sees guy bury a body and decides to intervene. Would've been a weak episode in regular anthology, here, it was the best so far - score 3/10 -Flesh Computer: Fell asleep halfway though, what I did see made it the worst of the 3 so far and the reason to stop watching - score utter shit/10 -Pathos: The first I liked even though I have no idea what the fuck was going on. Bit cubey - score 7/10 -Eveless: Woman has been extinct, some guys are trying to give birth. Bit fucked up, would've been alright as an ABC of Death episode - score a respectable 6.5/10 -They Will All Die in Space: Awesome. Best of the bunch by far. Looked great in black and white, together with well chosen angles and well designed sets it made it seem a lot more expensive than it was. Even starts with a neat spaceship crawl. Story makes sense and has a twist. Everything you need. - score 10/10 -Entity: Another space one, not unlike Gravity and 2001. Female astronaut gets thrown into vastness of space as her craft explodes and goes through 2001-type experience. No idea what was going on but it looked amazing hence - score 8/10 -Kingz: Another turd to finish up. Matrix inspired action but shot too cheaply. Sound design was really bad in this one, moreso than the fights or cinematography - unpolished turd/10

The rest of the movie is crafted so well, which makes the ending seem rushed. Geriatric mutants were the best part. I know what you mean, they did a great job in making the movie as a whole, it may even be Oscar worthy. But there came a point where I kinda forgot that they were actually running away from dangerous people pursuing them, because it focused more on the characters and how they were becoming like a family. I knew who would die in the end but it was still sad.

Beneath (TV): The most generic horror movie title ever. Could range from anything under the ground to hidden dark hidden secrets from someone's past to a monstrous fish in a lake stalking 6 of the dumbest teens to ever be assembled in a rowing boat... ...This is about that last one. Didn't expect much but gave it a chance because it was by horror veteran Larry Fessenden but it was pretty much a pile of poo from start to finish. Only good thing is all those dumb and annoying teens died, warning, spoiler...

Cop, if you haven't already, check out Midnight Special . Midnight Special (Download): Neat. Didn't read up on it beforehand so everything that happened (or what was going on in the first place) was a mystery and that's the way to go, at least with a movie like this, that feeds you everything little by little, without flooding you with exposition. There's a natural flow to how information is revealed rather than stopping a movie dead to have a character explain the plot. Some information is revealed like that, but it makes sense within the movie. Anyway, having said all that, I find it hard to discuss the plot without revealing too much. Let's just say I noticed 1 soldier's nametag said "Carpenter" and I don't think that was accidental... Iron Fist - Epi 1-7 (Download): Didn't plan on binging a series this weekend but a new Netflix Marvel series wasn't something I could pass up. Didn't know the character at all but then that didn't matter for Jessica Jones either. So far it's pretty good (I mean, I did watch 7 (and a half) episodes in 1 sitting) but it's no Jessica Jones or Luke Cage and so far it lacks an enigmatic villain. Rest tonight, hopefully, unless I get sidetracked by something else that was 'released' recently, which rhymes with Far Cars Pogue Tonne...

Star Wars: Rogue One (Download): Still no 3D version but I couldn't wait any longer to watch it properly. Only went the once in the theatre due to circumstances and that was a truly shitty experience being propped up to the side and behind a wall that was too high to lean back in the seat. I believe the 3D bluray comes out around the time of my birthday so I might just ask for that and not worry about the price for once...
Iron Fist - Epi 8-13 (Download): Meh, while the first few episodes still had something going for them, in the middle few episodes the story grinds to a halt. So much time is spent by 2 people standing and talking or sitting and talking, reminded me of the worst Walking Dead episodes where 2 people are walking through the woods and talking. Typical sign of them running out of shit to do but stretching everything to fill the required amount of episodes. I still feel the lack of a good villain is the problem here. Oh, and unlike the other series, they didn't even put the character in his costume once. Usually they wait until the last episode but not even that. Weakest of the 4 Defender series...

I'll pick up Rogue One when it comes out, might be already not looked, but never saw it in the cinema - didn't even go once last year afair - some supermarket (probably Asda) will have it on offer cheaper than the rest, not really in a massive rush but do like to look of it.
As for Iron Fist I saw an extended trailery preview thing not too long ago and it did look pretty weak.

Kong: Skull Island (Theatre): LOVED IT! Good old-fashioned monster movie shenanigans but done with the most modern techniques. I liked Peter Jackson's movie, but let's be honest, the action on the island was what's best in that movie and this is just that. People vs Kong, people vs monsters, Kong vs monsters, the end. Perfect.

Gantz:0 (Download): OK, I guess, liked some of the monsters and fights but there seemed to be a distinct lack of logic. Boss monster just killed best player that ever existed, who was armed to the teeth, newbie player decides now is a good time to strike and clocks him on the jaw with his bare fist... ...What? What did he hope to accomplish by that? Furthermore, the best weapon is constantly laying around but nobody bothers to pick it up until right at the end. This happened more than once! Heh, I liked it well enough, but for me it didn't live up to the hype...
From a House on Willow Street (Download): This is what happens when you axe the imdb boards. I get suckered into this shit by one positive review. I'm sure the thread titles would've warned me to stay far away from this. Basically: kidnappers kidnap possessed girl, running and screaming, the end. Looked good, cinematography was by far the best part but the story was stupid and it was boring as hell...
Dead Sushi (Download): Not boring but way too silly for its own good. Title says it all: zombie sushi. All done in a ridiculous over the top slapstick way. Not that the director of Machine Girl or Robo Geisha or other crap like that has ever been subtle but this was pretty fucking far out there, even for him...

Assassin's Creed 3D (Download): Lowest expectations of the night and whaddayaknow, I didn't think it was all that bad. Don't know dick about the game (barely made it past the tutorial) so I wasn't bothered by comparing it to that. I thought it was amazing they actually managed to sneak that farfetched a premise in such a huge budget movie. Normaly you'd see something like that in some low-budget genre flick, but you could see money was spent here. 3D was used adequately as well, not in your face, but the vistas were nice and so were the freerunning scenes where the 3D really helped to increase the depth and danger of the world. Might actually buy this one (eventually)...

Predators (Bluray): Good flick.
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (Download/DVD): This 2002 movie is one of my favorite Godzilla movies, with the 2003 follow-up (Tokyo SOS) probably being my favorite, so when I came across a 1080p version I didn't hesitate, especially not since my DVD is one of those cheapo non-anamorphic Hong Kong affairs. To be honest, I'd be surprised if that DVD still works. The other classic Japanese Godzilla DVD's I have are region 2 remasters which are much better, but I still might have a look at bluray rips just to see what they're like. This one was pretty great, considering...

Necromantik (1987): Someone called a different movie gross and I said "Its nothing compared to Necromantik" so we ended up watching it. The second time they killed an animal on camera for no reason we lost a viewer lol. Whenever people talk about gross movies I can't help but recommend this one. Terrible movie but it is disgusting. Show this if you want to offend people. The best scene for reactions: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}The main character's girlfriend dumps him so he puts a cat in a bag and slams it against the walls till its dead. Then he plays with its guts in the bathtub

Saw that at some underground movie festival with some friends. We laughed our asses off. Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS was another one they played. Even funnier...
I remember a few funny bits. Him dancing around naked while shouting 'Yippeee' and someone falling off a ladder, intercut with an image of a garden gnome. And of course the bloodcum at the end...

It's hilarious how bad it is, especially the acting. Don't expect to be shocked (like at all) though.
SPL 2: A Time for Consequences (TV): The first is an HK action classic and this one, while having nothing to do with the first at all, wasn't bad either. It's about the organ mafia and a HK cop and a Thai prison guard getting caught in the middle of it all. The Thai prison guard is Tony Jaa and it's shocking to see him in a decent movie again for a change. Story is OK but the fights is where the movie really shines, especially in the finale. The bad guy is a great fighter. Very stylish moves.
Godzilla 3D (3D bluray): It's starting to grow on me. Still don't know why they don't show the main attraction a little more often (they show those stupid insect creatures all the fucking time), but it's a decent movie. I wonder how it compares to the latest Japanese Godzilla (Shin Godzilla, which is also available but didn't have subs yet when I got it, so I'll have to reserve that for next week). In the meantime...
Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (Download/DVD): Not a keeper, this HD rip. Whereas the G vs MechaG looked amazing, this looked like an upscaled DVD. The movie was still good but I might as well just have watched my DVD instead...

No. I wanted to and even had a free ticket but 1. sadly that ticket wasn't valid in my local theatre, 2. the movie never played at a time convenient for me and 3. was too long to go and watch before work. Same for John Wick 2, for which I also had free tickets, which were valid in my local theatre...

Kill Bill: Vol.1 (Bluray): Vol.2 tonight.
Shin Godzilla (Download): The new Japanese Godzilla movie. Looks like every time Hollywood tries to make a Godzilla movie, the Japanese show how it's really done. Happened last time: Emmerich Godzilla spawned 6 awesome Godzilla movies then nothing for 12 years. New (pretty decent) US Godzilla in 2014, new, better Japanese Godzilla in 2016. And this time it's a complete reboot, made like a serious disaster movie, with the government trying to figure out what they're dealing with and how to deal with it. And it flips the script completely, with Godzilla only becoming recognisable Godzilla about halfway through the movie... ...and how? Godzilla firing his energy beam for the first time is probably my favorite Godzilla scene ever and the best thing I've seen this year yet. It's fucking amazing. The rest of the movie is very talky, a lot of meetings, but somehow it works. That's probably what would actually happen when something like this would occur. Reminded me of that drone movie I saw a while back, where every step in the process had to be debated and approved. Now let's hope this is just the first of a new series...
Full Metal Jacket (DVD/Download): I've never been really happy with the DVD of this movie. The 4:3 image ratio annoys me. It might be the way Kubrick shot it, and usually that's the end of that for me as far as aspect ratios go but it just doesn't work for this movie AND it's not the way it got shown in theatres either. He knew it was going to be matted to widescreen, so there's never anything going on on the top and bottom of the frame anyway. So what I usually would do with the DVD is zoom in on it, as if it was a non-anamorphic widescreen. Of course, that doesn't improve the picture quality. I knew the bluray did things differently, that's why I wanted to check it out and see if it was worth the upgrade. It probably is. Image quality isn't that impressive, but it does look a bit better and of course the widescreen is restored. If I ever come across it for a good price, I'm making the switch...

Kill Bill: Vol.2 (Bluray): Epic...
The 9th Life of Louis Drax (Download): Alexandre Aja made his debut with hard hitting, bloody horror like Haute Tension and The Hill Have Eyes remake and even Piranha 3D was still a lot of fun, but this... Credits make it seem like some indie movie but it looks like a TV-show and not a particulary good one and the story is pretty weaksauce (supernatural) thriller territory. Nope, did not like very much...
Godzilla - Final Wars (DVD/Download): Either the worst or the most awesome Godzilla movie, depending on what you expect. I love the energetic campiness of the whole thing, with all its insane Godzilla fights and alien shenanigans, but they certainly made the right decision to end the series here and go for a complete (and serious) reboot with the newest one because there's no topping this as far as insanity is concerned.

Split (Download): I've never been a Shyamalan hater, in fact, apart from The Visit, I've bought every single one of his movies. The Visit however, no, that was shit. This one on the other hand I quite liked, McAvoy is solid as always and there isn't a lot in the movie I have a problem with. In fact, like I said, I quite liked it... ...until the last minute or so, when all of a sudden I FUCKING LOVED IT! Oh my god, I got chills during that little epilogue, which I won't spoil, but it makes so much sense and it's so cool Shyamalan got to do that. That really got to me.
The Void (Download): Only got this because someone somewhere mentioned John Carpenter so I figured I'd give it a shot despite not being that interested and expecting some low-budget psychological and/or supernatural thriller, but boy, how wrong was I? This was FUCKING AMAZING! Probably the best horror flick I've seen in a while and, yes, very John Carpenter. Starts off like Assault on Precinct 13 but in a hospital and turns into Prince of Darkness with Thing-like gore and by the end some Hellraiser 2 and From Beyond gets thrown in for good measure. I recommend this movie, especially to Carpenter fans.
Teleios (Download): Avoid. Event Horizon-esque space flick with none of the looks, thrills or budget. This was the disappointment of the night. Not that I expected a lot, but then I didn't from the other movies either and they all surprised me in a positive way. This was just weak all around, looking like a cheap TV-show and way too pretentious with the pseudo-filosophy...
The Devil's Candy (Download): Another great horror flick about, well, basically, a haunted house, but don't let that throw you off. Like the Void it's not just some run-off-the-mill paranormal thriller. This one is harder to describe, it's more psychological and less visceral. It's by the guy that did 'the Loved Ones' and this is as much a haunted house movie as that one was a torture porn survival horror...
