I had a UK Anchor Bay 2-disc before I got rid of it because the picture quality of the director's cut is atrocious. Every added scene has horribly fuzzed out low resolution picture. It's why I got that MGM R3 because at the time it was the only version of the director's cut that was superb throughout. The bluray rip I downloaded was amazing. I should try to find out what the source was because I'm not going to buy another crappy version...
Ghost in the Shell (DVD): It's fine but so little happens if you think about it. I don't quite get where this got its classic status from because there are so many anime from around that time I like so much more.
Beyond the Gates (Download): Another '80s nostalgia project but it failed to convince. Too little happens so all that's left is a few neat kills but not much else. I appreciate the effort but it just wasn't good enough.
American Ultra (Bluray): Fun while it lasts. Certainly not a classic but enjoyable, if you don't stop to think about it too much.
Ghost in the Shell: Inocence (DVD/Download): Because I can't play my R1 DVD in my PS3, I figured I'd look for a HD rip. Well, I found one. Good looking one too. This to me is the better of the GitS flicks and it hardly even has the 'mayor', the naked chick from the first movie, in it. What it does have are amazing visual designs and a somewhat hard to follow story.

Spotlight (Bluray): The Oscars™ and I seldom mix, but I can't fault their choice for making this best movie. Compelling stuff.
Westworld - Episodes 1-5 (Download): MMORPG the series? It's good, not great. I want to keep watching but I'm still not sure what they're trying to accomplish, unless it's the extremely obvious (for someone who's seen more than his share of anime movies). Rest tonight.

The Tenant: Weird Roman Polanski movie from the 1970s that didn't make much of an impact when released but has a cult following. Interesting study of paranoia(or was he paranoid? DUN DUN!!) mixed with some so so acting from Roman. It has a decent atmosphere. Not a bad flick.

Westworld - Episodes 6-10 (Download): Well, that ended better than expected. They didn't go the obvious (anime) route and they actually managed to suprise me quite a bit, tying everything up at the end. Really glad I'm waited for it to be completely finished so I could binge it and keep everything fresh in my mind.

Cop you seen Rogue One yet?
I have to say, I thought it was better than The Force Awakens. There were some things about it that I didn't particularly care for, but they might be big spoilers... Overall though, it was a great Star Wars movie. Just what the franchise needed.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World (Bluray): Fun fun fun.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (Bluray): Silly fun. Doesn't even try to be remotely believable anymore but I can't say I didn't enjoy it.
Spectral (Download): Shelved studio movie becomes original Netflix content. Nothing we haven't seen before in this scifi/action flick, but the mix of Aliens, Final Fantasy Spirits Within and, let's say, Appleseed nevertheless made for an enjoyable watch. I'd buy it, if Netflix ever put it out on a physical medium, but if it's anything like their Marvel series, I don't see that happening...
Deadpool (Bluray): Finally cheap enough to buy, so I did.

Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive (Bluray): Not the best animated movie but it does look pretty amazing and the finale is pretty neat (albeit a little long)
Patlabor (DVD): One of my favorite anime movies. Forget Ghost in the Shell (1), Patlabor is still Oshii's best work.

Patlabor 2 (DVD): As great as the first Patlabor is, so boring is the second. Well, maybe boring isn't the right word, very slow, dry and serious. The first is serious but with a lot of funny moments and also a compelling mystery that needs solving. The second, about a military leader planning a coup, is bogged down by a lot of talking: dry and long conversations about power, war and peace and the stars of the show, the Patlabor police, barely does anything. Not a bad movie, just not a good sequel to an awesome first movie.

Rogue One - A Star Wars Story (Theatre): Unsurprisingly I liked it quite a bit even though we had awful places (I sat right at the side, against the wall). I took the kids so I couldn't go at 22:30 like I would've if I went by myself and it was a full house and was nearly sold out when we got there, imho, well enough in advance. Didn't have the immediate wow-factor I had when I went to see Force Awakens though, it was a much slower burn, but I'll take a big space battle over a lightsaber fight any day, so by the end I was completely sold.

Can't keep awake to save my life because I'm switching from night to day rhythm so I figured some new movies might do the trick... ...they didn't.
London has Fallen (Download): First one was implausible but just plausible enough, this one not so much, but I went with it. All the shooting lost its appeal around the halfway mark though, so that's when I started nodding off. Even moreso than the first, Gerard Butler is a one-man-killing-machine to the point where it becomes a little ridiculous.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (Download): From the director of the Troll Hunter. It's pretty good as long as they're figuring stuff out about the corpse but once you realise you already know more than the characters and they keep coming to the wrong conclusions it starts to become somewhat boring... ...which made it really hard to stay awake. All the paranormal stuff goes on for too long and is all too same-y. Might give this one a second chance though, when I'm less inclined to doze off...

The Fifth Element (Bluray): The kid seemed to like it. The FX hold up really well as well.
Whiplash (Bluray): With the youngest out of the house, I could try for something a little more mature. I'd expected the oldest to lose interest and pick up his tablet somewhere along the way but he too kept watching, which I guess means the movie works...

The Terminator (TV): Though I should've just put on the DVD or downloaded a HD version because what the cable provider, um, provided through its streaming service, which we have for free for a while, was quite poor. SD, compressed like a poor DVD-rip, which macroblocked every fire. Wife and kids didn't seem to notice (heathens), but I did. However, if I had stopped everything and switched it out for the DVD there would've been whining and complaining so I just sat through it, making a mental note of never bothering with their SD offers again. Luckily the movie is a classic because if it had been something I didn't particulary want to see, I wouldn't have made it to the end...

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Dir. Cut Bluray): Obligatory sequel, bigger, bolder and better with exactly the right balance between CG and practical to make it fantastic but still real. Unlike all of us, the kids didn't know yet the Arnie terminator was going to be the good guy, so it was still somewhat of a surprise for them when that twist happened.

In the UK, you have to be sure to pick up the 'Skynet Edition'. I've read the earlier version that came out of that movie was all kinds of suck.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (Download): TV-series created by Max Landis based on the material by Douglas Adams. Can't verify if it's anything like the source material, but I certainly liked the 8 episodes. Reminded me a lot of John Dies at the End but a littlebit more chaotic. Maybe a bit too chaotic at first but once every character is settled in, the time travel plot was pretty neat...

In the UK, you have to be sure to pick up the 'Skynet Edition'. That's the one I've seen, nice one for the tip. As for Dirk Gently, I love Douglas Adams' writing but can't stand Steven Mangan and his big stupid face so I never bothered watching the BBC show... hadn't even clocked Netflix were doing a version.

The 5th Wave (TV): Holy shit, this was fucking horrible. Without a doubt the worst movie of 2016 I've seen so far. Tween drivel, which I wasn't aware of beforehand, I figured it would just be some mediocre scifi flick. It was so much worse than that. Plotholes, clichés and predictable as hell, all filmed like some cheapo TV movie. Hitgirl has a pretty face but that's about the only thing worth watching. Turned it off after 30 minutes last night, resumed this morning, while playing some Vita but ultimately fastforwarded through the last half hour. Avoid.

Sherlock - Season 1 (Download): Got reminded of this because they talked about a potential new season in our TV-guide. Remembered I maybe wanted to check it out and when I read every season was only 3 'episodes', a manageable amount, I figured now was as good a time as any. Not bad, I like the characters, the plots however are maybe a little farfetched at times, but it has enough style and charm to look past that.

T3 is one I'll sometimes start watching now and again after having forgotten just how poor it is; the chase is okay and I like some of the sets but that's about it - Salvation I haven't put on in AGES because I DO always remember it is boring as fuck (Even going to the cinema and getting very drunk drinking Jamesons couldn't improve it) - that new one with the young CGI Arnie looks like it can fuck off too. I stayed in last night and had a little movie run after getting some new blurays... X-Men Apocalypse - I did consider buying this when it came out but I'm now very glad I didn't, not because I didn't like the film (I thought it was actually pretty good) but because yesterday I found a set containing all 8 X-films (with 2nd Apocalypse 3D disc) for £15. Would deffo bang that Jean Grey. The Wolverine - Not seen this one either, thought it was okay but the story a little flat in parts & guessed the end-game well in advance - there was enough scrapping/slicing to keep me interested though. Liked the bit where he got all the arrows in the back. Wolverine - The other Origins one, thought it was new to me at first but then remembered seeing it on TV part-way in (I think I'd missed maybe 25mins) a while back. Fell asleep about 15mins before the end. Didn't bother rewinding. Gang Related - Bought it yesterday for a fiver because it has a nice steelbook; an okay film & I don't already have it on DVD. Even though I knew I'd seen it before I'd forgotten the ultimate resolution of the story, which was nice.
