Twisted Metal - Season 1 (Download): Better than it had any right to be. Reminded me a lot of a series called Blood Drive, which was kind of like Death Race 2000 with engines that ran on blood. It was pretty funny (and fun). I never plmyed the game it's based on but I'm guessing it didn't have much of a story to it. First half is definately the better one but the clown character keeps it interesting enough to watch to the end. Just binged all of that yesterday, I very much enjoyed it. Very bloody good time and Sweet Tooth is awesome, Samoa Joe (a wrestler) plays him but Will Arnett does his voice. Also the music in this show is outstanding, lots of 90's stuff.
Think I might've actually liked it better than the Halo and even Fallout show, which I didn't binge either of them in a day like I did with Twisted Metal.

Blood Simple (Bluray): The Coen brothers debut movie, which I liked a lot more than I expected after having seen it before a long time ago and since I never bothered buying it on DVD, I must not have liked that much. But I sure did now. It's an entire movie about people having the wrong idea of what's going on which leads to more and more bodies piling up. Was also very surprised to find out the actor that played the detective, M. Emmet Walsh, only passed away very recently, in March this year. He was not even 50 when he made this movie, did people look older in the '80s?
Godzilla Minus One (Download): I miss RARBG so much. I had to download 4 version of this movie before I found a watchable one. First 2 were really crappy quality (especially considering the file size), 3rd one looked and sounded well, until it jumped from 20 to 40 minutes due to some corruption (luckily I wasn't the one watching it at the time), after which I went for an insane 24GB version which turned out to be flawless (at last). The movie deserves all the praise. It is rather good and a must buy for sure. Amazing to think they managed to make this for $15 mill. I wouldn't say I really agree it deserved the Oscar™ for best special FX, until you take into account the budget (but should you when talking about 'the best'?). All this aside, it's a fantastic ride you take with a disgraced kamikaze pilot that tries to redeem his actions after the war ends and a giant city leveling monsters shows up. One also doesn't expect to be this emotional in a kaiju movie, but there you go. I also loved Shin Godzilla and most of the recent American Godzilla movies, but this didn't just go for spectacle...
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Bluray): After watching the Nice Guys last weekend, I also wanted to check out Shane Black's earlier movie and I happened to stumble onto a very affordable bluray of a movie that's been elusive for a while now. In the Benelux and Germany you don't seem to be able to get it new anymore from Amazon or other respected webshops and the 3rd party sellers still offering it want too much money, but then all of a sudden Amazon UK had a new one for less than €10 and I quickly jumped onto that.

The Green Knight (Bluray): 3rd time I BOUGHT this movie, not watched it, bought it. First bluray was technically fine but all the interstitial captions, of which there are a lot) were translated to German, which was really annoying, so I bought the Belgian/Dutch release, which doesn't translate shit like that, but it turned out to be just about unwatchable because the colour/contrast was all fucked up. It was just unwatchably dark right from the start and the colour of what was visible was clearly off and I didn't even bother watching it any further. I could've just downloaded it (again) and be done with it, I guess, but I finally got it from the UK, which thankfully did everything right. I guess it's a strange movie to invest all that money in, it's very love it or hate it, but I'm certainly leaning a lot more towards love, especially those final 20 minutes, which are amazing.
Prey (Bluray): Tired of waiting for it to finally come down in price some, which it doesn't seem to be going to do, so €17 it is, I guess we have Disney to blame for that (the same company that also wants €60 for 6 episodes of Loki and all those other Disney+ shows they're only bringing out on UHD for insane amounts of money. Sorry, but no, I'm really not going to do that, no matter how much I liked Loki or Andor. That's simply not feasible and this is coming from someone with a collection of over 3000 movies on bluray and DVD. Put it on regular bluray for at least half the price of that and I might consider it, though that's still too much for a season comprised of just 6 episodes. Anyway, Prey, best Predator movie since the first (or maybe the second, I really like the second one as well)...

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (Download): 6-episodes that mirror the Tales of the Jedi that was released a few years ago, this time focusing on more incidental characters from previous animated and live-action series that get a 3-episode arc a piece. None of it was bad but it also wasn't as good as the Jedi part. The characters that were chosen just weren't the most interesting ones...

Ninja Kamui - Season 1 (Download): This anime series concluded earlier this week and I have to say it started more interesting than it ended, with ninjas in powered armor duking it out. Started as a revenge flick, with the family of 1 retired ninja getting slaughtered and him seeking revenge while slowly getting to know some backstories through flashbacks but as the powered suits started showing up midway through it moved in a somewhat less interesting narrative in my opinion. Still, it was certainly watchable enough to keep coming back to it, but I don't really see myself revisiting it...

Apt Pupil - Saw this a long time ago but had forgotten, it's not great but does get better towards the end. I heard the ending of the book was a lot darker. Enjoyed watching it again, also noticed that it was directed by Bryan Singer who also directed those X-Men movies, which also starred Ian McKellen.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Bluray): New one just came out, apparently hadn't seen the previous one since I bought it in 2022 so I decided to freshen up on that one first. Decent enough flick with a lot of nostalgia sprinkled throughout to keep the older viewers entertained. Shame they had to wait till Ramis passed away, but hey, so be it. New one tonight...
The Rocketeer (Bluray): Classic old-school adventure movie with FX that still look decent enough.
Threads (Download): I've often said, in random conversation, lol, that when WWIII takes off, they drop the first nuke right on my head because I've seen too many post-apocalyptic entertainment to want to have to deal with that bullshit. This hyperrealistic British 1980s TV movie only strenghtens my resolve. It's a dry but fucking scary realistic sounding telling of what would happen if a nuclear skirmish (that starts in Iran (sound familiar)) between the US and the (back then stil alive) USSR escalates into a global conflict and in particular the city of Sheffield, which gets nuked, and how this impacts the population. Starts somewhat slow, with everyday working class schmucks going about their business while all the while in the background on TV and radio you can follow the reports of the escalating middle eastern conflict. As the threat looms clearer people start preparing and then the inevitable happens and while the budget and the FX don't allow for spectacular imagery, it gets the point across still, sometimes straight up telling rather than showing with statistics and numbers. Everything after that point is what I would want to avoid having to live through. Brutal...

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (Download): Ok flick, but nothing special. For every scene or moment I liked, there were also plenty I didn't care for. Incidentally, anything involving the old Ghostbusters was usually among the better moments, and anything involving James Acaster, a very dry British comedian I hadn't seen in a movie before. Seems like a lot of the middle of the movie was kinda filler-y. All this being said, it certainly wasn't a slog to get through, just not great.
Gate of Flesh (Download): Thought this could be a cool pinku movie, with a pretty high score on the imdb (7.3), but that's probably because it wasn't all that sleazy after all, in spite of its premisse. Was a lot more arty than expected, and a lot more serious, except for when it wasn't. Main actress had a pretty face. Not a keeper despite looking great for a movie from 1964. Could've used a lot more sleaze...
Johnny Dangerously (DVD): Was reminded of this when I was re-organising my movie collection and came across this in one of my DVD-folders I've been using instead of boxes to save on shelf space (which are needed for blurays now). I remembered this movie was the origin of the Slackercentral word 'bastige', as in TBP, the bastige penguin. There's this Italian character that uses a bunch of cursewords that are slightly off (and are a good way to go around a rating), like: those bastige iceholes, farging cork-soakers...
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (Download): The new Guy Ritchie is an old-school adventure/war movie where a ragtag group of British spies has to sabotage the supply line for the German U-boats. Actually quite fun, in a Dirty Dozen type way.

Transformers: Rise of the Beast (Bluray): OK Transformers flick, almost devoid of humans. The giant robots are walking around, fighting and blowing shit up, but nobody seems to notice anymore, lol.
Black Dynamite (DVD): Another one I rediscovered re-sorting the DVD-collection. Looks fine on DVD since it's supposed to be a blaxploitation grindhouse movie anyway and it's pretty hilarious throughout. Makes me want to rewatch the animated series as well...

Story of Ricky (Download/DVD): Now there's a blast from the past. The infamous catIII gorefest, now looking a little tame in comparison with modern stuff, but still a whole lot of fun. It's been years since I last saw this, but a decent high quality version is too good to pass up.
Escape from Mogadishu (Download): Surprisingly great piece of Korean cinema about the rebellion in Somalia in the early '90s (of Black Hawk Down fame). This movie is like the Korean Argo in which the personnel of both South and North Korean embassies have to put aside their hatred for one another to try and escape the hostile city. Looks great, I mean, the riots and the chaos looked expensive to set up and there's quite a bit of bloodshed on the streets and the finale is nailbitingly tense. And the ending is bittersweet and really makes you think about the absurdity of the whole situation.

The Iron Claw - Damn this movie almost made me cry. It's about Kevin Von Erich, a retired pro wrestler who had 3 brothers (David, Kerry, and Mike) who also became wrestlers, and their dad (Fritz Von Erich) was also a very famous pro wrestler. He lost all of his brothers, one from illness and the other 2 from suicide. edit - read the whole story, they had another brother who wasn't mentioned in the movie, Chris (died from suicide), and there was another named Jack aged 6 by drowning after being electrocuted (fell face-first in a puddle of melting snow). They say this family was cursed.
Was talking to my mom about this one, she actually saw a Kerry Von Erich fight back then, maybe even all of them. Was before I was born. edit - Spoke to her again and it was actually Fritz Von Erich she saw fight in the early 60's.

Mars Express (Download): Neat French animated movie that's a bit like "I, Robot", about a human/robot PI team that gets hired to find a missing girl on a Mars colony but stumbles upon a much bigger conspiracy. Loved the visual style and all the details in the worldbuilding and technology. Unexpected ending.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters 3D (3D Bluray): Probably one of my favorite Godzilla movies. All the monster scenes, which are plentiful, are amazing with great CG and plenty of spectacular shots. This movie is filled with Kaiju glory shots that would make amazing desktop backgrounds. Rewatched this because the newest of the American movies just dropped and I wanted to freshen up on the saga so I'll be rewatching this and Godzilla vs Kong before I watch the new one.
Alienoid (Download): Silly title for this much better than expected Korean scifi wuxia-time-travel flick about a police robot that monitors alien prisoners whose minds get locked into the minds of unsuspecting people on Earth. Yeah, it's way out there. In a stroke of good luck, the second one of these movies dropped earlier this week, which was good timing in my case because this first movie ends with a 'to be continued'. Glad I don't have to wait a few years for the conclusion but will be able to watch it tonight...
Metropia (DVD): Peculiar looking animated movie (all the characters have the proportions of puppets, with big heads and smallish bodies) that I'd seen before but forgotten all about but it's a slow moving dystopian tale that is ultimately rewarding to sit through.

Godzilla vs Kong 3D (Download/Bluray): Have this movie on bluray, but not in 3D. This rip proves they're still being produced somewhere but it's certainly not anywhere where I can buy them. Shame because it's one of the better ones too. The movie itself isn't as good as the previous Godzilla movie but it's still a whole lot of fun regardless.
Alienoid 2: Return to the Future (Download): Pretty great second part to this story with a couple of surprising reveals that had me really excited and which I didn't see coming. All in all, these 2 movies were really positive surprises.
Lousy Carter (Download): Mumblecore cringe comedy that was kinda amusing for the 77 minutes it lasted but I won't remember watching it next month...
City of Lost Souls (DVD): Decided to revisit some more movies on DVD. This is a Takashi Miike movie that has all the ingredients but apart from a CGI chicken fight isn't that memorable. One thing I do remember was the first time I watched it was on a friend's HK DVD which was a flipper and I actually watched it in the wrong order. It still made enough sense though, well, until the credits started rolling after 45 minutes, lol...

Barbie (Bluray): Ryan Gosling's Ken is one of the best characters of recent cinema history. Every single one of his lines is hilarious.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (Download): How the hell did this movie get made? I mean, the plot is so far out there, you'd think it was one of the crazier Japanese Godzillas from the '70s, except with huge budget CGI. The destruction in this is off the scale. Rome gets leveled, the pyramids in Egypt get destroyed but Rio gets it worst of all, the death toll must be in the millions, lol, but the good huge monsters win in the end so it's all good. The technology of the humans as well seems to get more and more advanced every movie, it's almost time for a Pacific Rim crossover. It's also amazing that a lot of this movie is completely free from dialogue but you always know exactly what all the monster characters are thinking, which is kind of great.
The Night House (Download): Seeing Rebecca Hall in the GxK movie reminded me I needed to rewatch this movie. Haven't managed to find it on bluray yet, which is a damn shame, so for the time being I'll have to stick with this. One of the better haunted house movies, with a slow build-up that spreads out the reveals, keeping you guessing to what's going on only to come together in a great finale. Twice in this movie a scene gave me literal goosebumps all over, especially the second time, right before the finale kicks off when Rebecca Hall's character is having an intimate moment with what she thinks is the ghost of her dead husband but when she says his name the ghost answers: "No". *Shivers down the spine*-moment...

The Twilight Zone (2019 reboot) - Middling to piss-poor to be honest. Only episode I've really enjoyed so far was the 2nd one, Terror at 30,000 Feet. The rest has just been bad, some of it's even downright propaganda for BLM and feminism, and they have probably been among the worst episodes so far. Also the 6th episode about the astronauts (Six Degrees of Freedom) was okay. The original one from the 60's and even the other reboot from the 80's were way better. Never saw the early 2000's reboot one. *edit* found it free online, turns out I had seen the first episode of the 2000's one but lost interest pretty fast.
Dinner with the Parents (Amazon/Freevee) - American remake of Friday Night Dinner (British sitcom), the original British show is still way better. Could barely make it through the first episode and didn't laugh once, some things should never be remade, this is one of them. Unsurprisingly it has pretty bad reviews. *edit* Meh I did end up laughing once finally. Might give this show a chance. There's a neighbor with a dog just like in the original show, but his character on this one seems to be kind of a jerk. In the original show, the neighbor with the dog was just a really awkward guy

Fallout(Amazon): I finally took the time to sit down and finish this whole thing tonight. I liked it. Imagine my surprise when the gas station they recreated from Fallout 4 is where my power armor is sitting right now in my savegame. It threw a ton of the world at people very quickly. I'm trying to imagine someone who never played the games figuring it out.

He does look a lot like him to be fair I also couldn't tell for sure, but there seems to be some kind of consensus out there that it is him. *edit* Looked up the Fandom page and it does show that he was affiliated with that corporation in question before the war.
*edit* hope they get into synths and supermutants in season 2. The timeframe of the show takes place 10 years after Fallout 4 I think. New Vegas' timeframe is not long before Fallout 4 either.

Civil War (Download): I'm always ready for a new Alex Garland movie and this, like all his previous ones, was something different again. Starts off slow but along the way becomes more and more disturbing, with one of the most tense scenes of recent times in the second half when the team of journalist gets confronted by (an uncredited) Jesse Plemons as an unhinged soldier. That dude (and that scene) stole the movie. I'd like to say it's farfetched, but we all know it isn't... Atlas (Download): J-Lo plays a woman that's way smarter than herself that has to bond with an autonomous fighting armor in a movie filled with pretty awesome CG effect but pretty uninspiring designs. I liked the movie well enough and the banter between J-Lo and the suit was often amusing, but I wouldn't defend it against anyone that hated it because I can see their points as well. I guess I expected worse... Abigail (Download): A movie that came recommended by the RLM guys who said you should go into this movie without knowing the twist and then right away spoil said twist, lol, but then I had already skipped the movie and without knowing what it was about, I probably wouldn't even have made the effort to watch it, so it's all good. Another bloody (and still somewhat surprising) affair by the guy that also directed 'Ready of Not', which was really similar, but maybe still a bit better (it helps having Samara Weaving in it )...

The Fall Guy (Download): A movie that oozes love for movies and stuntmen in particular, which is not surprising since it's made by former stuntman David Leitch, starring Ryan Gosling in another more comedy oriented role, which suits him well. All sorts of practical stunts push the story forward to a spectacular conclusion. I can't wait for the bluray because this is one I'd love to see some behind-the-scenes bits of. If the snippets during the credits are anything to go by, it looks like it was a lot of fun...
The 8 Show - Epi 1-4 (Download): Another Korean game-show series but it's not Squid Game, it's more like El Hoyo/The Platfom (also on Netflix) if you've ever seen that. It's filled with a variety of characters you love to hate and they certainly made sure there's going to be plenty of conflict. It's sure to escalate even further in the second half of the series but so far it's already been a lot more compelling than I expected.
The Grimm Variations - Season 1 (Download): Anime series that has classic Grimm tales retold, sometimes with surprising results, of which a gaslighting Cinderella is probably the high point.
Brickleberry - Season 1 (Download): Liked Paradise PD well enough to give the previous series by the same makers a try. It's literally exactly the same, lol, and just as crass.

The 8 Show - Epi 5-8 (Download): Yup, it escalated to the point of being almost unbearable to watch but then there were some more twists and turns and it ends pretty satisfyingly, which was certainly a surprise because I would've guessed they wouldn't have been able to tie a bow on such a particular concept but they kind of pulled it off.

Confession of Murder (Bluray): Was going through the movie collection, recognised the title but couldn't really remember the plot so I figured a rewatch was in order. Along the way I started remember some stuff but most of it was still vague enough to at least be surprised at least a few times. It's a pretty good movie, with a few action scenes that seem a little out of place considering the rest of the movie (especially the finale, which could've ended on a real gutpunch but then they went for a pointless chase scene after that). Looked up some other work by the director and it seems he slid more and more into just action, culminating in his final film to date: Carter, which is just 2 hours of non-stop action that just keeps on going and going and going. Guess the signs were already there in this movie, lol. Still a solid flick though...
I See You (Bluray): Another overdue rewatch, but I still remembered all the twists of this one, sadly, because I remember going into this movie completely unaware, which is the best way to see it because the twist(s) are amazing and unexpected so I certainly won't spoil them here.
Hellraiser (Download): Rewatch of the remake which is a better movie than expected albeit a little too long. The make-up FX are great and the plot is solid enough. I don't know if they follow any of the lore from the umpteen Hellraiser movies after part 2 (which is where I usually draw the line), but I like this one well enough on its own. Director has some really well done horror movies under his belt, like last weekend's The Night House...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - Thought it was pretty good, the story was kinda very similar to the movie before (War for the Planet of the Apes). They have come a very long way, the CGI of the apes is outstanding. Just as good as all the other movies before IMO. I think this one is supposed to be the start of a new trilogy, hopefully it made enough back at the box office that they will make 1 or 2 more (budget was $160 million). One thing that surprised me:
{CLICK FOR SPOILER} It takes place 300 years after the end of the previous film and follows a whole new set of characters. As far as I can tell, Andy Serkis is not in it but the main character (Noa) looks a lot like Caesar and his sons. Thought the main character in the trailer was Caesar's surviving son Cornelius, but he's not. Cornelius is presumably long gone since it's been many years. Probably could also be presumed that Noa is a descendant of Caesar's son Cornelius, since he looks so much like them.
