Apart from whether or not it is a good horror movie, I love how it sits on that perfect line between models and CG. Use CG to enhance the scene, not build it. The fact there was (or maybe still is) a large scale model of the Event Horizon ship is something I can really appreciate.

Bodies (Download): 2 reasons why I watched this 8-episode series. 1. It was getting good reviews and 2. it ends. I'm tired of series that may or may not keep going, always leaving you unfulfilled. This was a closed off story with an intriguing setup and a satisfying payoff about the same dead body showing up in 4 time periods. I wpn't be able to say much more than that but it was handled very well.
Four Brothers (Download/DVD): Long time since I saw this but it was still pretty decent. There's a good chemistry between the actors playing the brothers. It's all a bit unbelievable with the lack of police presence while the guys are doing their thing, shooting up the place but the movie has a good flow and a good bad guy you love to hate.
Me and Me (Download): Strange Korean movie where a cop investigating a double death (a teacher and his wife) one day wakes up as one of the victims and the rest of the world doesn't seem to be aware of what happened beforehand or of the cop as a person at all. It's somewhat of a comedy as well, sometimes more dramatic and mysterious. At one time I wondered how much time there was left in the movie and it was just about over. Nothing got resolved, the cop was still the teacher and then the credits rolled. Can't say I fully understand but it certainly wasn't a bad movie up to that point.
Gen V - Deason 1 (Download): So the Boys spinoff ended. It was all you could have hoped for and what I'm hoping for now is the Boys themselves are following up right away because I'd rewatched the previous seasons a while back already, thinking the new season would launch soon after. That was already months ago.
And Invincible finally started again as well, same deal. Rewatched that in the summer thinking it was about to come out momentarily...

Orphan: First Kill: I saw the first Orphan in the theater back in 2009, it was a solid movie. The main actress was 11..........they waited 13 years to make a prequel to the first movie. The actress does NOT look like an 11 year old girl. Maybe 14 if you squint. If they would have made this movie in 2010/11 it would have made more sense. Or if they used some ridiculously expensive CGI to de-age the main actress. Now if you put your suspension of disbelief aside and just move on, the movie itself isn't absolutely horrible but the first movie was better in every way, I can't think of anything the prequel does better. My friend I watched it with said it was the worst movie she had ever seen. I wouldn't go that far. Just watch the OG. EDIT: Its been years but for a while variations of this gif were floating around. This comes from the first Orphan movie.

Attack on Titan - As far as I know it has concluded, the last episodes get pretty dark and emotional (end of the world stuff). The whole backstory with the origin and purpose of the titans is really interesting too, also the main characters and their story and the way it builds up is really good throughout the whole thing. Probably will watch the entire series again, hopefully they'll keep it on Hulu. The final episode is movie-length (1 hour 20 minutes), the next to last episode is 1 hour long.
{CLICK FOR SPOILER} The way it ended kinda reminded me a lot of Evangelion, the world ends and a lot of people die (nearly all) because the main character decides that all (or most) humanity has to go. The entire story all took place in an ancient time where the Titans were their weapons, but then all of that was gone in the end. During the end credits it shows humanity building back up, eventually building weapons (and eventually nuclear weapons) and wiping themselves out all over again.

Loki season 2 - just concluded. Seems like it's over, not sure where it could go from where this season ended. All in all thought it was really good. Seriously BIG spoiler, may want to watch it first if you plan to. {CLICK FOR SPOILER} At the end, Loki uses his powers to turn all of the timeline branches into a tree (seemingly Yggdrasill which is also from Norse mythology) in order to save all the timelines and the people in them. He basically becomes a timekeeper and even has a throne, which he did always want power and to sit on a throne.

Onimusha - Season 1 (Download): Anime series based on a game I never played but I did see Ninja Scroll, which this seems to rip off completely, lol, or maybe it's an homage because it's uncanny just how close it is to the classic anime. The bad guy in Ninja Scroll is called Gamma, here the monsters are Genma and there are 3 brothers called Yoshiaki, which is the first name of the director of Scroll. Both deal with an illegal gold mine that requires an entire village to be murdered. I mean, the similarities are plentiful. That being said, I really liked the series. It was basically just a series of fights but there was enough character stuff to keep it interesting, which it also was visually. Despite being partially 3D animated, it had an interesting esthetic.

The Killer (Download): New David Fincher movie, straight to Netflix, about a hitman that has to deal with the aftermath of a boyched hit. Stylish, as you'd expect from Fincher, but more of a character piece than an action movie and I'm fine with that. Why try to be another John Wick when you can look at it from a different angle as well. I liked the slow pace and inner dialogue while deconstructing an organisation of professional hitmen with inventive and understated methods. Good movie.
Godzilla (Download): The '50s original which I'd never seen. Can't say I'd prefer it over the more recent ones but I can see how it must've been something special in the '50s. Shin Godzilla is actually the closest Godzilla movie I can compare it to and I have to say I loved all the miniature work even if the Godzilla suit itself wasn't as refined yet.
Bad Education (Download): We stay in Asia with this Taiwanese movie about 3 friends that just graduated high school that bit off more than they could chew and are in for a night neither will ever forget. Had no idea what direction this movie was going to go in when it first started but I'm glad I gave it a chance. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting.
Loki - Season 2 (Download): The best Marvel series ends in a satisfying way and in the meantime solves the Kang-problem that has arisen since the legal troubles of the actor portraying him. I was excited seeing the names of Benson & Moorhead attached to this and they certainly didn't disappoint. The second season especially with all its time slipping and timeline shenanigans was right up their (and my) alley and I loved the visual style that was started in the first season but perfected in the second.

Oppenheimer (Download): Solid flick. I actually liked the fact it was broken up in intertwining time periods, something I've heard reviewers comment about, made a dry biopic a bit more of a mystery and I also didn't mind the final of the three hours, another thing I've heard people complain about.
The Menu (Download): Passed this by originally but I shouldn't have because it was actually right up my alley, moreso than comparable movies like Triangle of Sadness, which went too far into metaphors and was a bit too pretentious ultimately. This was more my style and because of Triangle of Sadness I put off watching it when it first made the rounds...

^Really enjoyed The Menu, was one of the most different movies I've ever seen and very effective at what it does. One of the guys from those old Sonic commercials (Peter Grosz) is in it.
Want to see Oppenheimer for sure, might just buy it.

The Creator (Download): Amazing FX but the movie itself was missing something. I wanted to like it and often I did but I can't claim it also doesn't have a lot of problems as far as the plot is concerned. Too many to go into detail. I'll end up buying it no doubt, and maybe I might go into more detail after a rewatch...
Spirited Away (Download/DVD): Way, way, way overdue. This shiny HD version of a movie I've seen plenty of times before on DVD has been sitting here for probably over a year now, always finding excuses not to rewatch it. I knew I'd love it all over again if only I started playing it and last night I finally did. Of course I loved it, it's one of the best (animated) movies ever made and one time I couldn't argue with the Oscar™ for an animated feature. There's been plenty of anime movies passed by in that category, and I don't mean not winning, I mean not even getting nominated while vastly inferior American CG-cartoons take all the attention. Anyway, rant over, great movie, watch it if you haven't, you won't regret it./b
Another thing that started which was actually quite interesting is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, an Apple/Legendary series set in the Godzilla/Kong-verse. 2 episodes so far but if there had been more, I would've binged them as well. Pretty good, with superb FX.

Comedy night last night apparently:
Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain (Download): Came out of nowhere but turned out to be quite hilarious indeed. Apart from Conan o'Brien I didn't even know anyone in it but it looks like it was made by SNL people and I have to say they made a really funny movie. Had me laughing a lot, especially in the first half.
Save Yourselves! (Download): Smaller movie this one, mostly about 2 millennials in a cabin that are unaware the world has been invaded by aliens (that look like tribbles). Not as outrageously funny as the previous flick but certainly amusing especially once the creatures show up. The guy from Search Party plays the exact same character in this movie.
Intolerable Cruelty (Download/DVD): Another really funny one, this slapsticky Coen romcom, with George Clooney really going for it and being especially funny in the process. Just when you think it's winding down, Wheezy Joe gets introduced.
The Rat Catcher (Download): Wes Anderson short that's just plain silly.
Also started watching the new Scott Pilgrim animated series, which is virtually identical to the movie, except it's in the style of the original comic.

Nothing To See Here - Series from Mexico I found on Netflix about these 2 childhood best friends (one is blind and the other has cerebral palsy) and they are roommates. It's just about the wackiness they get into trying to have fun and hook up with women, etc. Pretty funny show so far, was in English by default and I kept noticing it didn't sound natural, so I switched to the original Spanish audio and it's MUCH better.

Also started watching the new Scott Pilgrim animated series, which is virtually identical to the movie, except it's in the style of the original comic. Ok, correction, only the first episode follows the story from the movie. At the end of that first episode Matthew Patel actually defeats Scott which completely changes the dynamic of all the characters that remain and Ramona actually becomes the focus of the story. It's weird because it's not what you'd expect but it's also nice it isn't exactly what you'd expect.

Fear the Walking Dead - End of the Series (Download): This has been a shit series for a long, long time but this final season was somehow even more crappy than anything that came before. Deus Ex Machina much? People coming back from the dead, always getting saved at the last second, ridiculous twists and more eye-rolling moments than even the main Walking Dead series. Hopefully this entire franchise is coming to an end sooner rather than later because I'm tired of watching it, even if it's only sideways on a second monitor while I'm browsing/messing about on the computer.

South Park: Joining the Panderverse - Hilarious. You know it struck a nerve somewhere when the people it's poking fun at are offended when they get called out. Also when I canceled Disney+ they sent a very in-depth survey wanting me to detail the reasons why I was canceling, a lot of the stuff in there had to do with if I had opinions on political ideology. Wasn't worded quite that way but might as well have been.
I think my favorite bit was about people not knowing how to do shit anymore.

Scavengers Reign (Download): Stumbled onto this animated series completely by accident. It is quite possibly the best thing I've seen all year, certainly animated. It's all about these survivors stranded on an alien planet and their attempts to get back to the ship. It doesn't just look great (very Moebius), the planet itself is populated by all these fantastic creatures and vegetation that can be used for all kinds of purposes to help their survival or kill them just as easily. It reminded me a lot of the game Risk of Rain, except it isn't about shooting things, just survival. The pockets of survivors all encounter different situations that test their physical and/or mental strength and not everybody will make it. It's both brutal and poetic and it's 12 25-minute episodes of absolute greatness.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (Bluray): Still a dumb title for a watchable but unremarkable spy thriller by Guy Ritchie. Nothing particulary bad about it, it just doesn't stand out in any way. Hugh Grant steals the show as an asshole billionaire weapons dealer.
Nier Automata w1.1a - Season 1 (Download): Finally sat down and watched this series. I'd seen the first episode when it came out, then rewatched it when the second episode came out, then did the same for episode 2 when episode 3 was released... ...and then they stopped coming due to production problems. By the time the season was finally completed with long intervals between blocks of episodes, I'd lost sight of it and only found out months later they actually managed to complete it. There was so much else to see and it had been so long and I couldn't bring myself to rewatch the first episode yet again until I finally sat down last night and binged the entire thing from start to finish. It was still good (although the first 2 episodes still are the best) but it lacked focus and a well defined storyline. That's one down, 3 or 4 more first seasons of different anime shows still to go and then (re)watch everything Attack on Titan which I've accumulated on bluray over the past months/years...

The Pope"s Exorcist (Bluray): Fun exorcism movie where Russell Crowe is having fun in the title role. It's all bullshit, but it's well made and moves along at a nice pace. Certainly one of the more tolerable big studio horror movies I've seen over the past years.
Spotlight (Bluray): Fantastic movie that I've seen over and over by now but still is as impactful as the first time I watched it.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (Bluray): Didn't really like this very much the first time I saw it but then I ended up buying it anyway and with low expectations upon rewatching it and not having a single memory about it, it wasn't too awful, lol.

Zom 100 - Bucketlist of the Dead - Epi 1-9 (Download): So far 9 episodes of a hilarious anime series about a guy that actually welcomes a zombie apocalypse after being stuck in an exhausting and unrewarding job for 3 years. Nicely animated (in 2D, thank god), extremely colourful and energetic. Slapsticky, sure, but in a good way and best of all: a fresh take on fucking zombies, a genre that's been completely oversaturated ever since the Walking Dead started. This will make you forget all that and is just extremely fun to sit through...

The Game (Bluray): Extremely long overdue rewatch of one of Fincher's earlier movies. Only just recently bought it on bluray after having bought it in 2 different DVD formats before, the last time being 2006, probably also the last time I actually watched it. It's not my favorite of his but it sure holds up better than a lot of movies from that time. It's still as farfetched as ever though, if you really think about it, but it moves along nicely making you not care about all that as long as it's going...
Talk to Me (Download): Surprisingly decent Australian horror flick that I had already passed by until the Redlettermedia guys recommended it in their latest video. It might as easily have turned into schlock with the premise, but it's actually a relatively tense and scary haunting movie. More akin to It Follows than something from Blumhouse, can't even remember what it was I watched recently which once again disappointed me...
The Feast (Bluray): Welsh horror, slow but deliberate build-up which I did like more the first time I watched it. Still better than most however.
2001 Maniacs (DVD/Download): Silly splatter horror in which some partying teens end up at a southern festival and get slaughtered one by one. Seen this one plenty of times back in the day. Short and bloody is sometimes all you need to entertain you even if you're aware it isn't all that great really.

Undead Girl Murder Farce - Season 1 (Download): Anime series that I started downloading because of the name and in spite of the name it was actually pretty good too, which is nice because another series I'd been collecting (Synduality Noir) I gave up on after 3 episodes for being ugly and generic. No such worries here. Clean 2D animation about a half man/half oni (Japanese monster) that teams up with an immortal girl (who's just a head in a birdcage after someone's stolen her body) to solve crimes in Europe. The first 3-episode arc is a murder mystery in a vampire household, the next is a 4-episode arc in which Arsène Lupin with the help of the Phantom of the Opera is going to steal a diamond from Phineas Fogg and our heroes team up with Sherlock Holmes and Watson while Moriarty has teamed up with Frankenstein's monster, Carmella the Vampire, Alistair Crowley and Jack the Ripper to try and take it for themselves. Indeed... ...All kinds of literary figures show up in this, which reminded me a lot of the British series Penny Dreadful which does something similar. I really liked it.
Pluto - Entire Series (Download): Netflix anime mini-series in which AI plays a major part. Robot detective is tasked with solving the murder of a beloved robot and a very similar murder of a human AI advocate. I'd decided to see the first or maybe a few of the 8 1-hour long episodes last night but I ended up just watching the entire thing because it was extremely well made. Lots of moral dilemmas and very current topics (I mean, watch episode 3 and not be reminded of Gaza) while staying entertaining. Recommended.

Killers of the Flower Moon (Download): Another little known example of the white man screwing over the non-white man. Opportunistic white Americans marry into native American families to steal their oil money and land after their spouses meet all kinds of swift and untimely ends. Solid movie, well acted by all involved about another dark page of American history. Do I need to watch it again? Not really, but it was a good movie nonetheless.
Bedevilled (Download): Korean flick about a woman that visits the small island where she grew up and reconnects with her childhood friend who's being mentally and physically abused and raped on a daily basis. It doesn't end well for anyone involved. Brutal flick with a slow build-up towards an inevitable violent conclusion.
The Goonies (Bluray): The quintessential '80s and children's movie that still works to this day. Fantastic characters and set pieces, a true classic.
Old Man (Bluray): Stephen Lang in a cabin, conversing with an unwelcome visitor. I can see people hating this but I kinda like it
Chicken Run (DVD/Download): The classic Aardman movie which I found out while watching got a sequel that was only just released a few days prior. I'll be watching that when it becomes available. Let's see if Aardman still has it... ...I never saw anything of Shaun the Sheep.

I like the style and everything, it is very gloomy but that's just how it needs to be.
There's lots of videos that delve more into the overall themes and meanings behind everything, but it's all stuff that most people can figure out just from watching it:

Avatar: The Way of Water 3D (3D Bluray): This might very well be the last 3D movie that's ever going to be available on bluray, which is a shame, but that's why I jumped on it right away, even pre-ordered this 4-disc version despite not being the biggest fan when I first saw it (in 2D, right after the first). That's also why I kinda put off watching this, apparently it's been sitting here unwatched since July already. I've adjusted my view of it somewhat this second time around however. Partly because of the 3D, which added a lot to my enjoyment of it. All the underwater stuff now looks so much more impressive. And it's a very quick scene but tracer rounds shot at the screen looked amazing in 3D. I've come to terms with the story as well. It's the same, sure, but now I didn't see the first right before it and that certainly helped.
Suzume (Download): The new Makoto Shinkai (Your Name) and it's another winner. Those movies look like I want my anime to look and there's always a sweet story even though you kinda get what he's going for after a couple of these, I mean, look at the posters for them all, they're almost interchangeable. I noticed more than one nod to the master Hayao Miyazaki and this movie does remind me a lot of those.

Strange Planet - Season 1 (Download): Don't know if I posted about this one before but I only watched half (doing Lego over the summer vacation) and only now picked up the rest (doing Lego over the winter vacation). It's about these blue creatures that say everything literally and as such comment on humankind. Like 'alcohol' is 'mild poison' and 'coffee' is 'jitter liquid'. Pretty cute at first but it does wear off after a while. Amusing enough to sit through (doing Lego).
Krapopolis - Season 1 (Download): I think this ended, not sure. Pretty decent animated comedy series about an ancient Greek civilisation where gods and creatures still roam the planet. It's Futurama-ish, collection od silly characters getting into funny situations. I actually liked it.
Lego also means catching up on all the documentaries I've been collecting over the past months:
The Iceman Confessions - Secrets of a Mafia Hitman (Download): Very matter-of-fact recollections of a guy that supposedly killed up to a 100 people as a contract killer (and an all-round murderer if someone just happened to end up on his bad side). The ease with which he tells it all is astonishing...
Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills (Download): 'Murica... First part in a 3-part series that shows Making a Murderer had a precedent. Another case where police coerce a confession out of a nitwit that becomes the basis for a case with no physical evidence that ends with the expected results and even more ruined lives. Hopefully there's some closure in the next 'episodes', but I don't have high hopes...
