Drag Me To Hell (Bluray): Deliciously gross... Seoul Station (Download): Korean animated movie that's somewhat of a Train to Busan-prequel, showing the early carnage in and around the Seoul train station. Animated style isn't very pretty to look at (it's no Japanese anime) but it does the job. And while in animation it's usually much easier and cheaper to do crazy shit, the story is very much grounded and about the people and doesn't really have anything that couldn't have easily been filmed for real. Still better than the Walking Dead though

4 day weekend and all I got to watch was:
Striking Distance (Download/DVD): I've always liked the movie but it looks like the bluray is a waste of money. Might as well have put on the DVD.

I watched Collateral last night - I can't remember the last time I saw it but I seemed to remember thinking it wasn't much cop - ended up quite enjoying it and putting on the commentary after it was over (fell asleep before the end though). If I see it cheap I may well pick up the BluRay. Totally forgot Jason Statham was in it at the beginning and for ages I was thinking "Who is it playing the cop?" - Mark 'The Hulk' Ruffalo as it happens.

Recently watched this and fuckin loved it! I was supposed to watch it at a local horror film fest but I wasn't able to make it. Totally would have been amazing to see on the big screen. I've also got The Devils Candy on my list to watch very soon. I've been hearing great things.

Sand Castle (Download): Pretty mediocre war movie. Wasn't awful but pretty hard to recommend either.
Preacher - Season 1 (Bluray): One of the best first seasons ever, the pilot episode by itself is already a classic. Well worthy of buying, unlike some other series I keep watching...

Just download the pilot and if you're not sold 15 minutes into that, you're not going to like the rest of the series either. But if you do, you'll love the rest of it as well...

Can't wait for the new season of Preacher! Loved the comics and gotta say that Cassidy is my favorite character in the series and it was great seeing him come to life on the show.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 3D (Theatre): LOVED IT! Just as great as the first. Incredibly funny and extremely colorful space adventure, with a heart. How they keep getting away with things that could be potentially so kitchy, I don't know, but while some characters and locations look like they come out of some campy '70s Star Wars rip-off, it never feels cheap or silly... ...also: stay during the credits. A bunch of extra clips in that, right up to the end, all really funny.

The Mist (Bluray): The Redlettermedia guys did a review of it which reminded me I still had to watch the black and white version myself. It was interesting and certainly helped mask the quality of the CGI but I think I'm going to stick to the colour version. I've no nostalgia for the old school '60s monster movies it's trying to emulate so I don' care enough.
Captain America: Civil War 3D (3D Bluray): Wasn't planning on getting it in 3D but the price difference was too small to ignore. It looked OK in 3D, better than the previous Captain America ones, which I did see in 3D in the theatre (reason why I knew they weren't really worth it) but this one didn't. Glad to see it was better than expected. Movie too. I hadn't seen it since it came out and forgotten quite a bit, some good stuff too.
Suicide Squad (Extended Bluray): This on the other hand I liked better the first time I saw it. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it but while this is supposed to be the more colourful and funny of the DC universe, the contrast with Civil War couldn't be greater. Apparently it was an extended version as well but I'll be damned if I could pinpoint one scene that wasn't in the theatrical. Maybe one of the Harley/Joker scenes? That's as far as I got and that certainly wasn't 15 minutes long so I don't know what else I missed...

Buried (Bluray): The movie I downloaded the longest time ago without eventually buying it. Guess it's time to update the list again. It's an effective and efficient little confined space (literally) thriller.
Pig Hunt (Download/DVD): Came across this and remembered liking it way back when I got it on DVD. Tried watching it a few weeks ago but fell asleep (not the movie's fault) and gave it a retry last night. It's a kids-in-the-woods type deal but instead of running into rednecks or a monster, they run into both, with some hippies thrown in for good measure. Takes some time to get going but the finale is suitably bloody and crazy...

John Wick (Bluray): Was on TV and I recommended it to a buddy. Figured I'd watch it again as well. Hope te second becomes available soon. I had free tickets for that but it never played at a time I could (or would want to) go see it.
X-Men Apocalypse 3D (3D Bluray): Can't remember if I saw it in 3D or not in the cinema. Don't think I did but it was clear to see it could work really well in 3D. I like the movie. Sure Apocalypse is a little corny but there's enough good stuff in there to offset some corniness.

Train to Busan (Bluray): Or like my buddy Hedon said, they should've taken the Bus to Trainan, which made me laugh. Anyway, one of the better zombie efforts of late in spite of having fast zombies.
Rogue One 3D (3D Bluray): You know what, if I'm honest, the 3D wasn't worth it. Hadn't seen it in the theatre in 3D so I didn't know but compared to other 3D stuff I've seen recently (even Civil War) this was definately lacking. Force Awakens was better too and even that wasn't that great. Shame but at least the box it came in is a lot nicer than the standard version...

Legion - Season 1 (Download): Wow... Didn't hear really hear about it previously until I saw it mentioned in our TV-guide together with the phrase 'psychedelic trip' and the name 'Noah Hawley' which was enough for me to decide to check it out. Noah Hawley previously did Fargo, which I loved, and now he's taking on a Marvel series about mutants. I was on board with that. First episode certainly sets the tone and 'psychedelic trip' is a pretty spot on description. All kinds of funky editing, FX and sound design are littered throughout the series and it doesn't outstay its welcome with its 8 episodes in which everything is wrapped up nicely. Unlike any other superhero show out there, but another Marvel winner...

A bunch of extra clips in that, right up to the end, all really funny. I concur, it was as awesome as the first one IMO. I found it to be more fun than the first, had a lot more comedy as well as heart. Yondu's role really added to the movie too, might've been my favorite. There were times when the whole audience busted out laughing too. Well worth the price of admission. I think my favorite part was: Yondu and Rocket are killing all those mutineers from that security room in the middle of the ship, just shooting through the walls while looking at the camera feeds... All while that song "Come A Little Bit Closer" is playing, and they're laughing like they're having fun. *edit* BTW how do you do spoiler tags? *edit* NVM figured it out.

Alien: Covenant (Theatre): Horrible, hated it and couldn't wait for it to be over. Took me about 15 minutes to realise it wasn't going to be any good when the new crew turned out to be even dumber than the Prometheus crew. Hard to believe the same guy did the original Alien because he's seemed to have forgotten everything about what made that movie so great. Here and there were moments that were good, but they were instantly flooded by another dumb scene, often featuring some or other horrible CGI creature. No, sorry, I'm ranking this way at the bottom of the Alien list, maybe just above AVP2 but at least that had some campy fun. This was just horrible. Should've gone to Life instead. Better a good clone than a bad original...

Get Out (Download): Pretty good. I'm glad I didn't see any trailers because apparently they reveal just about the entire plot except for the final reveal and I had a lot of fun trying to come up with explanations. I loved the TSA guy.
Tango & Cash (TV): Classic '80s schlock. Just about every line of dialogue is a one-liner and in the end a bunch of pick-up trucks with rocket launchers on them show up out of nowhere...
The Forgotten (TV): It would've been a cliché joke if I said I'd seen this before but forgotten all about it but I think that's what actually happened. Didn't remember anything about this movie but near the end there's a scene I'm certain I've seen before. Maybe it was on some or other movie quiz because except for that scene I can't say I saw any of it before but it is a very dumb and forgettable movie so who knows...

Taxi Driver (TV): This is the second time I give it a chance, with a very open mind, wanting to like it for the classic it is but I just don't get it. I just don't see what it is that should make this movie so great.
Tokyo Gore Police (Download/DVD): HD version looked nice but made the fakeness of the gore that more obvious. It was quite a while since I last saw it and I remembered all the insanity, however, I didn't remember the quite long and somewhat boring intermezzos inbetween those crazy scenes. I was fighting to stay awake...

I just don't see what it is that should make this movie so great. I think its best to see in context of the times, how dirty and nasty New York City used to be. How anti-hero movies like that were seen at the time. Its a period piece. Similar to Rocky Horror you can't really go into it with a 2017 mindset.

Roujin Z (Download/DVD): One of those classic anime movies, which, until recently I thought was directed by Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) but it turns out he only wrote it. Guess that was left really vague on the DVD as well because I've had this movie on VHS and DVD for years and I never noticed. This 1080p HD rip looked better than I expected because the original production value was never as high as something like Akira or other big anime movies from around that time. I'd say it's worth the upgrade from DVD...

Mommy Dead and Dearest (Download): Mom keeps daughter sick and pretty much hostage for the better part of 20 years until, with the help of some unstable guy, mommy gets murdered. Didn't think I'd ever see a true crime documentary that would end on a somewhat positive note, but there you have it. I probably would've hated the documentary if this case had gone to trial and what I've seen happen too many times now had actually happened...

Death Note: Light up the New World (Download): The newest in the Death Note series, taking place 10 years after the end of part 2. 6 new Death Notes have been dropped on Earth and a new rule states only 6 can work at any time. So now it's a race to get all 6, which would end the threat because if you could incapacitate those 6 notes, none would ever be able to be used anymore. It was OK, not as good as the original movie because it all gets pretty convoluted at the end, but it was easy enough to sit through and understand, it just lacked the interesting characters from the original.
Avengers: Age of Ultron 3D (3D Bluray): Can't help it, I like this kind of crap, especially if it has Joss Whedon dialogue...
Kill Switch (Download): Remember that (Dutch) Half-Life 2-type short movie that was released on youtube some years ago? Pretty sure this is a full movie of that, it even uses the exact same macguffin, a black box with a red circle on it. In any case, it's a movie that alternates between a first person perspective and 3rd person flashbacks, but even though there are some neat moments, it's no Hardcore Henry. The action is much, much tamer and the entire movie is stretched far too thin to remain interesting. The plot becomes clear too early and there's not enough of anything else, be it cool action, characters or story to support the rest of the runtime. Gets an A for effort and the (albeit low-budget) FX, but fails to become engaging or cool.
Orgazmo (Download/DVD): Extremely uneven video quality in HD. Not that the strength of the movie is the visuals of course, but the contrast between scenes could be quite noticable. In any case, I am Sancho...

T2: Trainspotting (Download): Pretty good. I liked revisiting those characters. Had free tickets to go see it in the theatre but it had to be a very specific theatre, out of my way, so that never happened. Guess, I'll buy it in some or other duo-pack with the first. If the bluray of the first is as good as the flashback scenes they used in this movie, it ought to be great.
The Conjuring 2 (Bluray): James Wan is the king of big budget studio horror movies. While not as great as the first, it still was very good. Just felt it was a little more jump-scary than the first, which was more psychological, but it worked well enough. I'd watch a 3rd one.
The Cannonball Run 2 (Download): So that's where the Dom Deluise Don Corleone scene comes from 'This cat is dead, get me another one.' Sadly that was about the only thing that made me laugh in this redundant sequel that had a major case of sequelitis: more of the same just not as good. Most of it just didn't work because they tried too hard to make it like the first but it felt forced and just not that funny.
New Kids Turbo (Bluray): Dutch comedy about a group af friends, gabbers, that decide to not pay for stuff anymore after losing their jobs and welfare. It's ridiculously stupid but very funny and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would...

Straight Outta Compton (Dir. Cut Bluray): 2 hours and some 40 minutes that fly by in one of the best biopics I've seen to date. Helps if you like the music of course.
Death Machine (Bluray): FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY! One of my favorite movies ever finally gets a proper home release. After a pan&scanned VHS, a pan&scanned R1 DVD and a watchable but unimpressive (and weirldly cut) non-anamorphic UK DVD, ze Germans of all people, release a superb 3-disc limited edition. Bluray+DVD+Soundtrack CD in a digipak with neat cover art and most importantly, very decent HD-transfer. In fact, it's so good, it reveals maybe a tad too much and the low-budgetness of the movie becomes apparent here and there, lol. Still, doesn't take away from the enjoyment of finally having this like it always should have been. Came across it completely by accident on amazon.de the day before the official release and in spite of the price (€30) I ordered it immediately because once the Limited edition mafia gets hold of it, the price is sure to skyrocket...
John Wick: Chapter 2 (Download): Not gonna lie, I had my doubts about a sequel to the superb and stylish first chapter but it turns out I was wrong. Apparently the director isn't a hack and the first wasn't an accident. The action, while seriously over the top, remains visually interesting and the very, very stylish looks are taken to another level in some amazing set pieces. Cool action isn't dead even though Luc Besson tried his best over the past decade...

"Brad Dourif" He always puts an edge on his characters. I recently saw him in an early flick, Wise Blood, directed by John Huston, and with Harry Dean Stanton, Ned Beatty, William Hickey, and even John Huston, as the Grandfather. A real slice of Americana, though it's eccentricity was such a sight to behold that I felt myself pushing away from it. Sort of like my reaction to the establishment that controls American politics. www.imdb.com/title/tt0080140/combinedHuh, full movie at youtube, in HD?
