Mother (Bluray): A Joon-Ho Bong movie I was still missing in the collection and one I ran into with a decent price a while ago. It's a quirky murder mystery about a retarded guy that gets accused of murdering a girl and his protective mother trying to prove otherwise. Like a lot of his movies, it never does what you'd expect and always puts you on the wrong foot, but not in a bad thriller pointless twisty kind of way.
Snowpiercer - Season 1 (Download): Speaking of Joon-Ho Bong, someone thought it was a good idea to turn his movie into a 10 episode series. I don't usually watch series that come from a movie, but I was willing to give this a go. It slowly won me over but the movie is still superior. I started fearing the worst when it began with a murder mystery, a murder in a class-based society, very Altered Carbon, but they solve it within the first 3 episodes, after which the series starts picking up. It was all very OK, but to be honest, I can't wait to see where the cliffhanger will take us...

Utoya - July 22 (TV): I wasn't a big fan of Paul Greengrass' Utoya movie so I really wanted to see what an actual Norwegian director could make of it but for some reason I never ran into this movie until this weekend. At least it's in Norwegian, which is my biggest gripe with the other one. This one however requires you to know certain things in advance because you only follow this one character around and you don't know anymore than she does, which works for the movie but if you don't already have a certain background knowledge, you'd be lost on what is actually happening. It's a good film despite never really seeing much of anything, it's all implied through sound and reactions. I was reminded of Son of Saul more than once even though that film is just a bit more intense still...

I signed up for the 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, had a trial before so I was surprised when I was able to get it again. It's much better than I remember, I might keep it this time. Also turns out this is where they moved Friday Night Dinner to after it was removed from Hulu, watched some episodes of that again, very funny and still one of my favorite shows ever. The Man in the High Castle, I'd seen some before but didn't recall much about it. All 4 seasons of it are available, I think I'm gonna try to watch it again.
*edit* Oh yeah I had bought Firefly on Amazon a long time ago, way before there was such thing as Amazon Prime. Back when I first got them, Amazon didn't have any kind of streaming service (no one did actually) and they had to be downloaded individually. The DRM on them was a pain, I would always have to call their support to have them read me a key to get past it whenever I wanted to watch them. I got so fed up with having to go through that every time, I just gave up and bought the show on DVD and then ripped them myself. The show is in my purchased items on Amazon Prime which is nice. The funny thing is if I go to the store page for this show, I still have the option to buy it, I guess it was so long ago that it doesn't recognize that I already purchased them.

Lemon (Download): Quirky little cringe comedy about not much in particular that reminded me a bit of Mr Oizo's absurd movies. It was certainly amusing...
Daniel Isn't Real (Bluray): This movie got an Arrow release and deservedly so. Great low-budget horror that can be taken literal or metaphorical I guess. I choose to take it literal. Guy releases the imaginary friend he locked away a decade ago but while they're having fun the imaginary friend becomes more and more controlling. Schwarzenegger's kid Patrick plays Daniel, the imaginary friend, and does so in a wonderfully diabolical fashion. Great music as well...
Gretel & Hansel (Bluray): Visually stunning little fairy tale horror from Oz Perkins with all kinds of fucked up visuals.
Relic (Download): Small scale horror film that I almost passed by until the Redlettermedia-guys recommended it. It's a pretty disturbing but also depressing movie, dealing with dementia and the effects that has portrayed metaphorically as a horror movie.
Inferno of Torture (Download): Late '60s Japanese exploitation movie involving stories about the people in and around a brothel, among which a few geishas and some tattoo artists. The narrative is all over the place and pretty hard to follow, plus often it doesn't seem to go anywhere and scenes just end. Plenty of Japanese tits and the occasional scene of gore, most notable right at the end, where a woman tied up between 2 trees is pulled in half in pretty graphic fashion. Sadly the 90-minutes build-up to that one scene isn't really worth it.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (Bluray): If they ever make another live-action Mortal Kombat movie again, I hope it's as violent as this animation. If they ever make an animated Mortal Kombat movie again, I hope they hire the people that did Batman Ninja.
I See You (Bluray): Neat little thriller that holds up after a second viewing even though I already know what's going on.
Bliss (Bluray): Crazy LSD trip from Joe Begos about an artist having a mental block until she takes a certain drug... ...and also comes into contact with vampires. Trippy visuals, flashing screen, loud music, I like it...
Dead Dicks (Download): Cool title, interesting idea but not well enough executed to remain interesting for the entire runtime. In short: woman goes to brother's apartment to find his dead body, but also to find him alive. Turns out whenever he dies, he's reborn through this vagina-like hole in his bedroom wall. Sounds neat, right? I thought so too and for a while it is but it kind of peters out and then it ends.

The Thing (Bluray): A new Arrow release. I already had it on bluray but this Arrow was cheap enough not to want to pass up. You're a fan or you aren't. Apparently the video quality is even better than it was before. Can't say I particulary noticed that, the previous bluray was already pretty good, but Arrow releases usually are the best possible version of a movie, so I'm all for it. Banlieu 13: Ultimatum (Bluray): Snagged this up kind of cheap. Watched the first a while back with the kids and while I had the second on DVD, the only thing I remembered about it was being disappointed when I saw it so I never watched it more than once. I must've been in a really bad mood back then or had some sort of unreachable expectation because I can't say I didn't have fun watching this. Sure, the morals are all wrong if you think about them but they're packaged in a fun action movie with good fights, so who cares? The Blackcoat's Daughter (Bluray): aka February or, as my German bluray states on its cover: Die Tochter des Teufels. I'd been looking for this movie, never finding a bluray on either English title until a while ago I was trying to find Oz Perkins' newest Gretel & Hansel but all these low-budget Hansel & Gretel movies kept turning up instead, so I decided to just look for "Oz Perkins" and what was the first bluray that showed up? "Die Tochter des Teufels". Search engines sometimes can be really stupid. Oh well, I'm glad I finally managed to find the movie, and pretty cheap too. The Quarry (Download): Ok-ish slow-burn crime movie about a guy that kills a preacher on his way to his new job and decides to take his place. Shea Whigham plays the guy, he's always good and Micheal Shannon, who's also always great, plays the police chief that is suspicious of him. Nothing particulary wrong with it but also not really recommendable. Guns Akimbo (Bluray): Great fun. Crank for the 20's.
I just saw Guns Akimbo recently on Amazon Prime. Not bad at all, I enjoyed it.

Dorohedoro - Season 1 (Download): Neat looking and pretty good anime series about all kinds of things that would be too hard to try and explain. Sorcerors, monsters, demons and all kinds of bloody shenanigans. In short: right up my alley. The only thing that bothers me is the fact it's another series. We can only hope this ends up going somewhere because there isn't much of a conclusion at the end of this season and if they never follow it up, it will end up like so many first season of (anime) series that remain unresolved and ultimately pointless. I mean, I'm still waiting for more of Knights of Sidonia because that didn't end at the end of season 2, and what about those animated Godzilla movies? Where's the finale? Anyway, good, violent series that I hope gets concluded someday...

Heatwave keeping me inside and immobile, good time to watch some movies...
An American Pickle (Download): OK comedy starring Seth Rogen in 2 roles: An Eastern European Jewish immigrant that wakes up after 100 years after accidentally being pickled and his great grandson. It's a fish-out-of-water comedy and it was kinda amusing for the most part.
Weird Science (Bluray): Courtesy of Arrow Video, one of the most classic '80s comedies that totally holds up in it complete silliness...
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (Bluray): For a while there this movie was impossible to get unless you were willing to fork over several times the original asking price (or go for a cut German release), which I was not. But a few weeks ago it suddenly popped up in one of the webstores I frequent for a mere €10 so I quickly snagged it up. Violent fucking shit of a bad situation increasingly getting worse and Vince Vaughn having to fight his way to a solution...
City of Violence (DVD/Download): HD version of a movie I remembered liking on DVD. I didn't remember quite as much about it as I thought I did. I thought it was more of a police procedural but it was a straight up martial arts movie. A mid-2000's Korean throwback to classic '90s HK action flicks.
Upstream Colour (Download): Long overdue rewatch of a movie I've seen back in the day but never have been able to find on bluray. Shane Carruth's second, after Primer, is a little more accessible but still a long fucking way from a mainstream movie. It's impossible to summarise in a few words but it deals with the stealing of emotions basically...
Major League (TV): One of my favorite sports movies. Recorded this off TV years ago hoping to watch it with the kids someday but that never happened so finally I decided to just watch it again myself. Have it on R1 DVD, but this was a bit higher resolution...
I See You (Bluray/Download): Reverted to a downloaded version even though I have the Arrow bluray just to watch it subtitled with the wife. She wants subs but I hate 'hard of hearing' English subs, so I just got some Dutch ones, which are less annoying. Thought she'd like it but she seemed kind of indifferent...

Attack on Titan 1 (Bluray): Live-action movie: part 1. Starts out a little slow, then the attack happens and it's all kinds of bloody carnage, then it breezes through about a dozen episodes of the animated series, skipping all the training and team building to end with another 30 minutes of complete and utter disgusting and bloody violence...
VFW (Bluray): Joe Begos does Assault on Precinct 13 and he does it well.
Why Don't You Just Die (Bluray): Arrow release of the Russian single location bloody carnage flick.
Us (Bluray): Solid horror flick that's only let down by the complete and utter ridiculousness of the entir idea behind it. Get past that however and you're treated to some good tension building and more bloody carnage.
Sea Fever (Bluray): Basically the current pandemic situation on a fishing boat, with some creatures thrown in...

^^ Heh...
Juuni Taisen - Zodiac War (Download): Mediocre anime series that didn't stand out in any way. Animation was OK, action, whenever there was some, was OK, character designs were pretty bland and the entire thing lost steam rather quickly, leaving you with a lot of long talky bits that might have been OK for the written version of this, but dragged the animation down. Fine while it lasted but not for repeat viewing...

The Man in the High Castle (Amazon Prime) - Overall, I really enjoyed it, really good story even if its runtime feels overly long sometimes. People have accused the show of being propaganda but I saw it only as a fictional story. It's loosely based on a book by Philip K. Dick in which Nazi Germany won WWII and is occupying the US, Japan also settled on the Pacific side and took over. The middle of the US is still neutral territory where some resistance groups reside. There's more but it is probably a spoiler. Hard to follow sometimes because there's a lot going on but for the most part I thought it was very good. It even got at my heartstrings a few times.
I was reading that the cast members destroyed all of the Nazi symbols and props after the show was completed. Also I really don't like the intro song, definitely not the worst but like many show intro songs it gets repetitive. I'm glad amazon has a skip intro button.
{CLICK FOR SPOILER} There are also parallel/alternate universes.

Never seen it but it was a big influence on the new Wolfenstein games from the last 10 years. Also drama around those games is a textbook example of the change in what the term "SJW" means. It used to be back 2013 an SJW was someone freaking out for no reason over a minor issue. Apparently the Wolfenstein games are "SJW" games because they say being a Nazi is bad.

I seriously doubt that's a mainstream point of view. Curious how SJW's have a fixation on Nazis, a group that has no political power in the modern world. They frequently mention it and label their political foes as Nazis, to the point it's like the boy who cried wolf. Could be that they're trying to prove to ppl that they themselves aren't racists as a means to elevate themselves in the ranks of social justice. In any case, "Nazis = racists" isn't a perfect correlation or equivalency. i.e. not all racists are Nazis and not all Nazis are racists. Ever watch the movie Schindler's List? It's a movie (based on true events) about a Nazi who worked to save Jews from execution and free them from concentration camps. Of course, as a group/collective, the Nazis were horrendous. Just saying the SJW's always harping about Nazis and their presumptions on the topic (that Nazis are lurking around every corner and any racist they encounter is a Nazis by default, etc) is kind of weird. For example, there are most likely Libertarians who are simultaneously racist and anti-fascist.

{CLICK FOR SPOILER} There are also parallel/alternate universes. You might like the show "Mr Robot". It's also on Amazon Prime. It's revisionist fiction (parallel reality), suspense & drama. Except the setting is modern times, with a ragtag group of cyber-terrorists taking on globalism and the elite who control everything.

I've been meaning to check out Mr Robot, I'll definitely add it to my watchlist. The show was so successful that they did a 4th season two years after season 3, even though they originally only planned 3 seasons. There's really great acting/dialogue between Elliot Alderson (played by "Rami Malek") and Mr Robot (played by Christian Slater), and others. Season 2 is bit of a let down imo, but seasons 3 & 4 are really good.

Time Bandits (Bluray): One of those movies I have on DVD and probably wasn't particulary planning on upgrading to HD until I stumbled upon a sub €10 Arrow release. It starts with a disclaimer the image is as good as it could be from the original negative, which usually means it isn't going to be very good, but it was pretty amazing considering the source material and especially after watching one of extras that dealt with the restoration. The original negative wasn't in great shape to put it mildly. The movie surprised me again, being a lot more enjoyable than I remembered. I love the scene of them on the boat, when it turns out it's just a hat of a giant that steps out of the water. I ended up watching a bunch of the extras as well, especially the one dealing with the visual effects was particulary interesting...

Attack on Titan II - End of the World (Bluray): Where the first movie still kind of follows the anime, the second part takes quite a different approach and ends with a completely different but ultimately really satisfying conclusion that is very much in tune with the original Watchmen, of which I watched the series next...
Watchmen - Season 1 (Bluray): Simply put: the best series of the past few years, especially episodes 6 and 8...
The Silencing (Download): Newest movie and first international movie from a former movie board buddy of ours over here in Belgium. Too bad I didn't particulary like it. It was a superbly mediocre thriller that was too predictable to make any kind impression. Stood out in no particular way unlike his debut movie "d'Ardennen"...

The Expanse is kind of like the "Lost" show. Lots of suspense building and waiting for resolutions/answers. It's better though because at least there are space battles. ...and some alien stuff.
It's nothing like Star Wars or Star Trek though. It's more in the category of 2001: A Space Odyssey or Contact, where the humans are inferior technologically and can't even leave the solar system on their own.

But if what you're saying true, explain why other shows also with diverse casts (like "The Expanse") aren't called SJW? Maybe one show portrays minorities as victims & oppressed and whites as oppressors (opposing sides based on race)? While the other show displays people as unique individuals regardless of the color of their skin and the competing sides are based on something other than race, like opposing govts and territorial disputes (more true to life really, since most wars are in fact instigated by and fought between governments)? SJW's dog pile William Shatner on Twitter, because he condemned their labels & hate directed towards straight white males.

But if what you're saying true, explain why other shows also with diverse casts (like "The Expanse") aren't called SJW? Like Cop said above it has quite a few black cast members. I never read the Watchman comics but I did see the movie(I actually liked the extended cut that was like 3 hours long). I was happy to see that the show didn't just try and remake the movie over the course of a series but went its own way. Characters that were white in the movie were black in the show. It has very prominent black characters and the whole thing is solidly anti-racist, I think that is why it got called SJW. The anti-racism stuff is the backdrop of the time period the show is set in American history, it is more about the relationship between the characters especially as the show goes on. I don't watch much TV these days and it is one of the last shows I have seen all the way through recently. Doesn't look like there is another season coming soon: www.tvinsider.com/939932/watchmen-season-2-potential-damon-lindelof-regina-king/
