Have I pimped Predestination yet? If you get a chance to see Predestination, a pretty faithful adaptation of Heinlein's "All You Zombies ...", be prepared to pick your jaw off the floor. It was an extremely pleasant surprise, given my skepticism going in. Hugo award winner John Varley reviewed it. varley.net/movie_review/predestination/ And The star of this movie, Sarah Snook, is someone to watch.

Got fucked up last night and had a quadruple-bill of films I've been meaning to see for ages...
The Lego Movie - Brilliant, but I think I enjoyed the Batman movie more.
Eye in the Sky - Decent but it wasn't as good as all the fawning I'd seen suggested it was going to be. Would probably still bang Helen Mirren too.
Prevenge - Again, decent... If you enjoyed 'Sightseers' then this is probably up your alley although it's not as funny and ultimately much more depressing.
The Revenant - Brilliant, beautifully/technically shot and a truly compelling story. I didn't know Tom Hardy was in it so that was a nice bonus... Didn't even notice the runtime. GG Guinness!

Have I pimped Predestination yet? No need, already have it. I'll watch everything the Spierig Brothers make. After I saw Undead back in the day I knew they would be worth keeping an eye on.

Jesus, I'd totally forgotten about that film. Maybe if they'd used this pic for the DVD cover instead of the 'Torgo' lookalike it might have lodged in my brain harder...

State of Play (Bluray): Solid political thriller that doesn't do anything wrong. Good performances, interesting enough plot, good movie.
Zoolander (Bluray): Still funny but I have to admit it didn't age great, guess that's always going to be the case with movies that make a lot of pop culture references...
Robocop (Bluray): Bought the trilogy boxset for cheap a while ago (only €12 on the German Amazon). Seen the movie countless times before but OMG, they really went the extra mile for this release. Picture quality is amazing, sometimes too amazing ie. you can see the limitations of the robocop suit or see the fishline a rocket from ED209 is traveling on for example. Hope they did as much for the sequel, which is my favorite of the bunch, although I doubt it. I remember on DVD, the second didn't even get a 5.1 audio mix, 2.0 only... ...but it's still my favorite.
It Comes at Night (Download): What does? The movie fails to answer this very question. In any case, it's a post-pandemic movie (details left extremely vague) and a family in the woods tries to survive. Received some praise, but I wasn't entirely convinced. I liked many parts of it but it may have been a bit too bleak and vague for its own good. Too little happened for it not to become a little tedious in the middle. I dunno, maybe I need to give it another chance knowing nothing in particular is going to come at night...

The Blues Brothers (Bluray): Downloaded an HD version a while ago but never got around to watching that download, maybe for the best so when I came across it cheap, I could buy it and watch it without having to let some time go over it because I only just saw it. Such a classic. Holds up in every way... ...just don't think about all the people that have since passed away, OMG, just about the entire cast is dead by now...
Robocop 2 (Bluray): Oh my, they did go the extra mile to clean this up as well as the first. It looks amazing, even better than the first. The ultimate in stop-motion animation. Finally after all these years a version that looks and sounds amazing.
Zoolander N°2 (Bluray): Saw it before not that long ago but managed to forget just about everything in it, seriously, it was like I'd never even seen it before. Must've been asleep for a lot of it. Certainly didn't hate it, found most of it amusing, sometimes even funny. Will watch again.

Army of Darkness is awesome, I found it on blu-ray for $5 a long time ago. There's no bonus features or anything special, but the movie looks great. Especially considering how old it is now. I've been meaning to check out the show (Ash vs Evil Dead), heard good things about it. I just watched The Founder on Netflix, never knew the story about how McDonald's was founded, it was interesting and overall a good movie. Not sure how much of it is factual but everything I've looked up so far is accurate. {CLICK FOR SPOILER} Ray Kroc cheated the original founders out of ownership of McDonald's and they never even got any royalties. Also along the way he stole some other guy's wife.

American Gangster (Bluray): Another solid movie. Nothing special, just really good at what it set out to do. Ridley Scott should stick to stuff like this instead of fucking up classic movies with pointless prequels or sequels...
Lake Mungo (Download): Mentioned by Jay from Redlettermedia in their 'It' Half in the Bag as being the last movie where the tension actually gave him goosebumps while watching it (unlike 'It', which was just pointless jumpscares. I can see where he got them cuz I got them too, twice, but I can't say the movie overall was that great. It was a faux-documentary and it was a bit too long (read: boring) to keep my attention throughout. There were however some great moments in it where the tension, all while zooming in on a still photo, built up nicely.
Robocop 3 (Bluray): There are some good things in this movie, but not enough and everything around it is either so bad (the overacting) or so inappropriate (the silly comedy moments). I have no problem with the new guy playing Robo, but all the, I'll call them, rebels are so crappy and over the top, as is Rip Torn as the new head of OCP. It's just a dumb movie... ...but it too looked very good in HD...
Stephen King's Cell (TV): Surprisingly enjoyable, especially the first half, if you disregard the cheapo CG. Original take on zombies/infected with some new and original mannerisms for the horde. It does go off the deep end in the second half and the ending was headscratchingly weird and open. Still, expected very little and was pleasantly surprised

IT(IMAX): Solid movie. It has really high production values for a horror flick. It does drag a bit in a couple spots but it has a good mixture of horror, comedy, and coming of age stuff. I would recommend.

99 Homes (TV): Guy gets evicted from his house, starts in the realty/eviction business himself to try and keep his own house. Michael Shannon is great as always and while the rest of the movie is solid as well, I didn't particulary care how it ended...
The Gift (TV): Unlike this movie, where the ending is the best part. Watched it before and only really remembered the ending. Wasn't a great version I saw before either, I remember it had a bunch of problems. Liked it more this time around, and like I said, the ending is wonderfully fucked up...
Baby Driver (Download): Tried to be 2 kool 4 skool and as such it annoyed me a bit. Wasn't anything particulary wrong with it but it just all felt a bit too forced and artificial. Liked this the least of any of the Edgar Wright films I've seen to date. Well made, just didn't care...
Don't Kill it (Bluray): Or the Demon Hunter as my German bluray likes to call it even though the title on the movie print itself is still 'Don't Kill It'. Anyway, enjoyable horror romp with a great opening and some cool splatter FX. Wonderfully gory and a neat idea that only suffers slightly from its low-budget nature...

The Big Short (Download): Kevin Smith praised this movie in one of the latest Hollywood Babble-on episodes so I figured I'd give it a go. Well, he wasn't wrong, I loved it. Hadn't heard anything about it before to be honest and I wonder why because it's great in every way. Manages to explain a really complex matter with easy to understand examples and is funny to boot, even though the reality is more tragic really. I've seen a couple of movies about the financial collapse of 2008 but this is the first one that makes it easy enough to understand even if you know dick about financial markets. Recommended...
Galaxy Quest (Bluray): Classic that holds up very well...
Happy Hunting (Download): 21st century Surviving the Game with some PUBG mixed in. Got it because someone commented that it was full of surprises but I guess that someone doesn't watch many genre movies because even though I liked the movie, I found it to be really predictable. But still crazy enough for me to like.
Mallrats (Bluray): DO IT, DOUG!

Mallrats (Bluray): DO IT, DOUG! hehe whenever anyone mentions that movie I remember my friend Marc back when I was 10 years old and those "Magic Eye" pictures were all the rage. He couldn't see them at all and was so mad he looked like he was going to cry. He literally did the same thing the dude does in the movie for hours.

Deepwater Horizon (Bluray): Solid disaster movie with some incredible FX when the rig is engulfed in flames.
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D (3D Bluray): Works well in 3D. One of the few CG 'kiddie' movies I can still stomach.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D (3D Bluray): Had been a little while since I saw it but I still can't fault this movie. It just works for me. I like how it looks and feels the most Star Wars since Return of the Jedi.
Sausage Party (Bluray): I wish I could say this is beneath me, but I think it's just hilarious. It's like they tried how far they were allowed to go, which, as it turns out, is pretty far...

Con Man - Season 2 (Download): ROFL, this has become a great satire of the entertainment industry and the episode with Lou Ferrigno's musical adaptation of 'Of Mice and Men', titled 'I'm With Stupid' maybe was the best episode yet. Can't wait for more...

The Revenant (Bluray): M'kay. Looked spectacular at least, maybe a bit long. Certainly not bad. Bear attack was insane.
San Andreas 3D (3D Bluray): This kind of nonsense is what 3D was made for. Best working 3D movie I've seen in a while. Don't get me wrong, the movie is stupid as hell
Rambo (Bluray): So violent... I love it...

The Revenant's based on a true story. Kinda.
*edit* I started watching Archer on Netflix, watched a few episodes years ago but couldn't get into it back then. This time I was able to get into it, and it's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Very clever setups, jokes and running gags, I don't think I've laughed this much at any show or movie in a long time.

Phrasing... War Dogs (Bluray) The Big Short (Bluray) The kind of biopics I enjoy. Especially the Big Short is an amazing movie, but both are good. Fun but serious when it needs to be... Star Trek: Discovery - Epi 1+2 (Download): Pretty good in a JJ Abrams-kinda way, which is fine by me. I can see Trekkies hating it but for the casual viewer there was a lot to enjoy. But why is the main female character called Michael? Were there no female names left?

But why is the main female character called Michael? Were there no female names left? I read somewhere that she was named in honor of someone who got killed. Maybe her father? But that could have been speculation, dunno. After hearing the names used by my fave cult film Nemesis, I'm not too nonplussed. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa ... Angie-Liv Merle Kennedy ... Max Impact (And Merle Kennedy was the pretty young acrobatic girl, so this is a two-fer) Marjorie Monaghan ... Jared Nicholas Guest ... Germaine Vincent Klyn ... Michelle Thom Mathews ... Marion Marjean Holden ... Sam www.imdb.com/title/tt0107668/referenceEdit: P.S. And yeah, this is Brian Fuller's show, and he's done this in the past.

I've never even heard the name 'Ged' before or is it identical to 'Jed'?
Anyway, some stuff I watched over the week(s):
The Last Man on Earth - Seasons 2+3 (Mostly TV/some Download): Yeah I stuck with it cuz what the hell. Series goes up and down with a highpoint in the middle of season 3 but it's always amusing even when it's annoying. Had to start downloading stuff when all of a sudden they started showing them on saturday as well as sunday and I missed out on a couple. What the hell?
The Tick (Download): That recent Amazon series. Meh, some amusing stuff but overall I couldn't get into it. Took me a long time to get through those 6 episodes.
Future Shock: The Story of the 2000AD (Download): Documentary about the British comic 2000AD which I only knew from Judge Dredd and Hardware and which I'd never really read but it was a neat retrospective on a cultural phenomenon and it was cool to be able to put faces to the names. They even mentioned that Batman/Dredd book which I happen to have.

Its aged fairly well I watched it a couple years ago.

It's a bluray rip running for 105 minutes. DVD of the same version should be around 100-ish minutes because of the PAL speed-up.
The Big Lebowski (Bluray): He fixes the cable?
Dredd 3D (3D Bluray): Even the creators thought it was pretty good (see 2000AD documentary) so I knew I had to watch it again as soon as possible...
Spiderman: Homecoming 3D (Download): Because I took the kids to the theatre, I didn't get to see it in 3D yet so before forking out for the 3D bluray, I wanted to know if it was worth it. It is, pretty good conversion actually. Most of the action set pieces seem to have been created especially for it and especially looking down the obelisk it worked marvelously.
HK: Forbidden Superhero (Bluray): Insane Japanese movie. Dude puts girl's panties on his head and becomes the superhero Pervert Mask (Hentai Kamen) who defeats opponents by thrusting his bulge into their faces. Love the sarcastic description on the (UK) cover "Based on the manga (of course it was based on a manga, what else would it be based on?)" ROFL!

Free Fire (Download): Meh, I liked it until the shooting started from then on too little happened, just shooting and it wasn't always clear who was shooting who or where everyone was in relation to the other and it didn't really go anywhere eventually...
Eye in the Sky (Bluray): Stays tense even after having seen it before.
The Girl with all the Gifts (Bluray): Who'd think there would still be good zombie movies made in this day and age in such an overcrowded genre with so much crap, but leave it to the British I guess.
Argo (TV): Don't know why I waited this long to watch it but it was another solid movie by Affleck.
