I have a vegan friend I have thought of going vegan for general health concerns people swear they feel way better after doing it. I made my own guacamole for the first time ever and it actually turned out pretty awesome. Might've been the best guacamole I've ever tasted.

Went for a much longer bike ride today, didn't even get exhausted. Was a little drizzly outside and my front wheel almost wiped out going too fast around a corner (pavement), managed to keep control and didn't miss a beat though. I guess riding more than twice the width of Texas in the time I've been riding has paid off, once again it was a pure reflex action that kept me from crashing.

Your Synapse Beta sub Sixteen kicked in, thankfully.
Great tale, you can read it for free at archive.org as its part of a collection of Sturgeon short stories.
I'm returning it now.

Went for an 8 mile ride yesterday, the route I went was all pavement but it includes a few excruciating climbs, especially on the way back. There was some heavy wind blowing directly at me on the way back too, definitely required more pedaling effort. Sure was a great workout.

Did a mountain bike skills clinic today (The Ride Series w/ Rich Drew), took the first 2 classes. It was exhausting but now I better understand how to (and can) corner, lift, drop, and jump MUCH better. Well worth it, probably will take more classes from them.

I know I should probably take classes, I'm a better rider then I was when I got into it in 2006 for sure but I don't know everything. It was beautiful today. 65f not a cloud in the sky.....then a thunderstorm and severe winds warning came in out of nowhere. Oh well. Its April now. Summer is right around the corner.

Would recommend those guys, they are great. Very good at teaching and then demonstrating how to apply it, already knew a lot of what they were teaching but they showed me where there were flaws with my techniques too. Each class normally costs $299, I took MTB 201 and 301. Cornering and jumping were my favorite things, and things that I really wanted to get better at. Definitely walked away with that.

Had a really good weekend of biking. First met up with a friend yesterday who I hadn't seen in years, she was interested in mountain biking. Thankfully she already knows how to ride a bike. We rode slow so we could just have a good time and take in the sights, it was a great time. Today I rode (solo) almost 20 miles and still felt like I had energy to go more but stopped. Also went pretty fast the whole time, those skills classes really improved my riding ability. Funny enough that was the 2nd prize, 1st was a really nice bike. I feel like the skills classes should've been the first prize in that contest, they will go a lot further in the long run.

I went on two group rides the last two days. The first one I have a ton of footage to edit.
This one from today I rode from my apartment to the meeting spot and back. There is a bike friendly restaurant with bike racks out front we stopped there and got food. I almost didn't go, glad I did.
EDIT: also yeah I had the camera angled too low next time gonna tilt it up a bit

I thought I said this in my original message looks like I forgot. So we get to the bike restaurant and I realized I have no bike lock. I lost mine years ago.
Just so happens there is a bike shop right next door. Rolled over there and they had a crazy light bike lock with 3 keys. $42. Helped a local business, and I have a nice bike lock now.
EDIT: Also I rode across a huge bridge.......and realized I was going to the wrong place on autopilot. Just wasn't thinking. That was funny I must admit.

There's some places really close by I've wanted to ride to but never seen anywhere to lock up a bike around there, unfortunately.

Went for a pretty good ride yesterday, at least 12 miles. Went fast, did more of the exercises that I learned in Rich Drew's clinics, and I went faster than I've ever gone before. I was smashing corners like Hulk.
Btw you ever seen those swarms of gnats from afar? Turns out those things bite, the trails were FULL of swarms of those things and I kept going through them. Their bites itch too.

Today was really nice so I went to a park I haven't been too since last fall. Grabbed my GoPro the last minute. Have some mothers day plans so I took a shortcut back to the parking lot. I couldn't believe my GoPro battery lasted the whole ride. Checked it when I got to my SUV and it was 2% power, can't believe I made. . I'm copying the footage off of the sdcard right now.

This should turn into 4k eventually. Beautiful there. I've heard people from places like that say that there's plenty of climb and descent, but finding flat terrain is the issue. I think one person might've been you and then someone from Colorado I met out at the trails here.

I think one person might've been you and then someone from Colorado I met out at the trails here. There aren't any scary fast downhills in the video. There is another trail in the same park that is scary to ride down but I didn't ride that one. The trails are weird here. You really have to have a guide show you where to go if you want to experience the best parts of the trails. I took the fast way home normally at 57:35 I take a left and keep going. I had to go to my moms for Mothers Day so I cut it short. I sound stuffed up in the video. Yesterday I took my temp and it was 100.9 ugh, working from home today.

^Looks more mountainous than where I live, although if you don't mind some driving there are still some nice hidden places with decent terrain. Northshore Trail in Flower Mound, TX is pretty amazing, I've heard people drive from really far away to go there. One place I want to check out is Cedar Hill, there's Cedar Hill State Park and another place called Big Cedar Wilderness trails.
Bentonville, AR is only a 5-6 hour drive for me, it's definitely on my list.

Summer is officially in full swing, I went on a ride Thursday, and a huge ride Saturday. It was a 48 minute drive from my apartment to the ride. We rolled out at 9:15 am got back to our cars at 12:30. I didn't know if it was ok for me to film it with my GoPro so I didn't. I wish I had because a girl in front of me tried to ride over a massive turned over tree and screwed up and flipped over her bike. If my GoPro was running I would have caught it all lol.
Later in the ride we went up a crazy steep section and she flipped over the side of her bike.
A friend I know from the local scene showed up for the Saturday ride and I explained the first time I rode with that group I looked up and I was with some other random guy I was following and we got separated from the main group. Like 5 minutes after I told him that I was riding and followed a random guy near the front and 3 of us got separated from the main group. Gotta love it. Not a big deal just kinda annoying. I knew where I was and how to get back to my SUV. They added a new trail and it was a ton of fun to ride. Next time I am going to need to bring my GoPro.

^That's good that she's not afraid to take stuff head-on, will be good when she learns how to properly mountain bike.
Went for 2 rides this past weekend, had a lot of fun. Lol the mountain bike association that maintains the trails here is having another raffle, was thinking about buying some tickets again. Would be funny if I won TRS lessons again.
On one of the trails I frequent here there was a fallen tree, they had to cut it up to remove it but they turned it into a step-up log ride kinda thing you have to lift onto which is pretty fun. They taught how to lift and drop in TRS so it's a nice thing to be there, good practice feature.

Finally got a puncture and had to use my plug tool for the first time. Was afraid of jamming the tool with the plug strip through the puncture (giggity) but I did it gently and everything went fine. Even pushed an extra leftover piece through the middle to make it even more sealed. Now that I'm much faster out there, I think I am going to see more punctures. The fact that the sealant didn't come through to seal it instantly probably means I need to put in more. This is the plug kit I got, it's just about as small as a roll of nickels so it's easy to keep in a pocket. It even came with 2 spare valve cores and the bottom of it also has a valve core tool built in. www.amazon.com/Genuine-Innovations-G20439-Tubeless-Bicycle/dp/B01MG5LGCM

I remember getting a flat on the Wahoo and stupid me I got a tube at Walmat(lol). Swapped it. Pumped it up.........flat again in 15 minutes of riding the trails. Never got a Walmart tube ever again, bike store only. I guess it says something about the tech of tires and tubes but my Trek Superfly 5 2016-2022 I rode like mad and never once got a flat, my friend rode it all over Washington/Montana and still has not got a flat.

Just got back from a bike ride, rode some pretty rough stuff and a few drops and the plug seems to be holding just fine. I was reading reviews that these particular plug strips (aka bacon strips) tend to suck, I must've lucked out and gotten some good ones though.

I have a night job currently which kinda sucks, but I've gotten pretty used to it. One thing that's pretty cool is sometimes if I can stay up until morning without being tired right away, I can squeeze in a bike ride in the very early in the morning. One time I went to this place that's kinda further away but nice, left before the sun came up.

Finally got hurt again, not bad but pretty painful (knee). I was doing a hard section and going up this chunky/rocky climb, my foot came off the pedal and it swung around and hit me in the side of my knee, the pedal pins tore into it pretty good too. I thought it was infected but it turned out to just be very badly bruised, must've hit a nerve or something because there has been pain radiating back and forth over the front of my knee, which took no hit at all (thankfully). It's been 4 days now, finally feels better but still sore.
Might be time to invest in clipless pedals, or just wear my kneepads again.

I was thinking about getting one of those SRAM Eagle transmissions for my bike, it requires UDH which most newer bikes have and mine does indeed have it. Only thing that is keeping me on the fence about getting it is that they are heavier than traditional drivetrains.
My bike's shifting has gotten kind of unreliable, looking it over I can see that the shifter cable and housing definitely needs to be replaced. Already bought a Jagwire cable kit to fix it and it was pretty cheap ($22 and small change).
I've re-adjusted the cable quite a few times and gotten it near-perfect but it always goes off again, still shifts okay just not great. Cable housing is bent at both ends and the cable is definitely kinked somewhere as well, all the problems should go away after replacing it.
