I've been having more health issues lately. Seems like as soon as I crossed over into 40, my body started having problems.
When I am able to bike again, I'll probably buy a Gopro to celebrate.

Everyone around here is sick. My coworker who sits closest to me just called it. Doh. I have more GoPro footage but I should really stop just using VideoPad and learn how to properly color correct it like pros do.

This time it was something in the back of my jaw, the pain lasted for 2 days. Couldn't chew, could only have soup, even soft stuff was hard to chew but managed to eat bread and chicken the next day with some minor pain.
Went to the dentist because the pain started at a very specific tooth area, now being referred somewhere else for some kind of special deeper imaging. Sometimes it feels like there's something behind my jaw, one time I pushed on it with my finger and it felt like something moved. Hopefully it's nothing.
Also just moving my jaw caused pain, I have to speak on the phone for my job a lot too. There's still pain in there even now but it doesn't hurt to chew anymore, as long as it's soft stuff.

I thought I might have throat cancer even went in and got some scans. At the time I was using those nicotine chews and something in the brand I was using was causing my throat to swell. I quit using nicotine chews and I was fine.

I thought I might have throat cancer even went in and got some scans. At the time I was using those nicotine chews and something in the brand I was using was causing my throat to swell. I quit using nicotine chews and I was fine. 8 months after I quit smoking cigarettes (20 years or so) I woke up with a massive burst of energy one day. It's what led to me getting (back) into running and biking. Best shape of my life now but could be that there's some things from the past catching up with me now. My doctor's always telling me to eat less fat and more fiber, very high cholesterol.

My first group ride with the GoPro. I slept through the last time this group met in December so I was determined to go this time. 35 degrees so some people bailed but we still got about 30 to show up.
They are doing them weekly now starting with this one.
I have the full ride exporting right now but that's gonna be a while.
EDIT: I finally figured out the best video settings I think. This is 30 fps but I think I'm going to drop down to 24 fps. I was doing 60 fps at first but at 4k that just takes up so much space and so much time to process. People tend to like the "cinematic" look of 24 fps anyway. Even on YouTube this footage looks great at 4k

So I had the full ride edited and exported at insane high quality settings so it took hours to finish. It was a 62 gig file. That isn't a typo. 62 gigs. I uploaded it to YouTube and went to bed. I knew it would take all night to process.
Wake up and play the video.........its all out of order. Fuck. I remember where I screwed up. I had 7 different video files and I accidently put a couple out of order. So I am going to fix it and reupload it lol.
Not a big deal but made me laugh.

The last couple days have been an adventure in terrible software. Like I said above the PC version of VideoPad exported a 62 gig file but I clicked the wrong button and it was all out of order. I found the same version of VideoPad on my Mac M1 and all the files and redid the video. For some reason it took _16 HOURS_ to export the 4k 1 hour video. That isn't a typo. Then it gave some error about the folder I selected no longer exists. If it was something important I would have laughed. So this time I made the export folder my /user/downloads folder on my Mac where I know it won't ever disappear. I ran it again. This time it took almost a full 24 hours to export a 1 hour 4k video. My Macbook Air didn't even get hot. It was only using 20% of the CPU. Anyway after almost a full fucking DAY it finished a 27 gig file VideoPad is considered a joke software in the video editing community. I bought the full version because for simple edits it was quick and easy, at one point I put in my YouTube info and then I would edit a clip and click Upload and BAM! New PUBG video on my channel. Its a lot less useful software moving into the 4k realm. Anyway the makers of VideoPad don't support the Apple Silicon natively so they don't make full use of their CPU and don't use the GPU at all. For fun I downloaded a copy of Divinci Resolve for my Mac: www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolveUnlike VideoPad it supports Apple Silicon AND GPU acceleration. I loaded up my files picked high quality and hit export using GPU acceleration. In 40 minutes I had a 24 gig file that looked the same as the 27 gig one. I think I am going to switch to Divinci Resolve for good.

I recently used mkvtoolnix (free) after many years of not doing any video editing, and it allowed me to do a task I can't recall at the moment, lol. I think it was a muxing of two different streams though.

Give handbrake (free) a shot? I recently used mkvtoolnix (free) after many years of not doing any video editing, and it allowed me to do a task I can't recall at the moment, lol. I think it was a muxing of two different streams though. You don't have to install it, there's a portable version which sits nicely in its own folder, wherever you want it to be. Installer versions are available too. mkvtoolnix.download/downloads.html#windows HandBrake: handbrake.fr/I used Handbreak in the distant past but VideoPad/Davinci are fully fledged video editing suites and not just "I wanna convert/join a couple of files". Back when I started putting crap on YouTube I downloaded a copy of Sony Vegas and it was waaaaay too complicated for what I was trying to do with my YouTube channel. Putting copies of my gaming sessions online for friends. Sony Vegas is used in big budget movies. I settled on VideoPad because it was very quick and easy to use and at 1080p and 10 minute tops videos VideoPad was plenty performant. However now that I have a GoPro I am working on footage that is 1 hour+ and 4k. Gigs and gigs of data. Even the 64-bit verion of VideoPad isn't up to the task. They are also sneaky, when you buy VideoPad that only gives you a license for the current version when you bought the software not for life which is a scumbag move. DaVinci Resolve has a different UI that I am not used too yet but its completely free, and supports GPU encoding. VideoPad is like a Geo Metro you have to pay for vs DaVinic Resolve which is like a 4WD SUV & its free, which would you use?

Something else happened to me right when I thought I was better. Woke up and fell straight down, serious imbalance problem. The good thing is it appears to just be a run of the mill inner ear infection, shouldn't be much longer until it's better although there's an off-chance that it could be something worse. Got a follow-up with the doctor soon. Feeling a lot better compared to earlier in the week but I still can't drive or bike.

I accidentally posted the wrong video earlier. I need to pay closer attention cuz I honestly didn't see that coming.
Also imo 30 fps is the sweet spot, I think 24 fps looks kinda choppy and grainy and 60 fps is excessive.

Got a follow-up with the doctor soon. Feeling a lot better compared to earlier in the week but I still can't drive or bike. Damn thats too bad. I am pretty sure I posted about it last year, but last year my big toe on my left foot started to hurt. I thought it was like a stubbed toe or a joint issue. Then it started to really swell up and it hurt to walk. Turns out my big toe had an infection called a paronychia: my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15327-nail-infection-paronychiaThey put me on antibiotics and I was fine for a month...........then it came back. I had to go to a podiatrist and get my big toenail removed. Good times. So then this last Saturday my right big toe started to hurt the same way. I went into denial at first I was like "No way the same thing is happening on my other toe". Then I took a shower and was able to squeeze some pus out of my big toe. Ugh. I went to UrgentCare and got some antibiotics again remains to be seen if I have to get my toenail removed on my other foot. Tomorrow will be one month that I have been going to the gym again and the crazy warm weather means I have also been biking a ton. The doctor things my shoes might be the issue. I told her "You must think I am this filthy person who never changes his socks and never showers". Since getting the infection I am like OCD about changing my socks. I change them multiple times a day.

My first time biking since COVID. Two negative tests. Was a group ride like 20 miles low 90s with high humidity. We went down this huge hill some people on road bikes got up to 50 mph. I think I pushed myself way too hard but really glad I went. I was going back through this thread and found this lol, this was my first ride back from COVID. Man I was so messed up and exhausted still. I kept up just fine in the flat and downhill sections but going up that huge hill I was dying in heat and post-COVID exhaustion, I was actually dead last on the hill and that isn't normal for me. The sweeper for the ride was giving me the side eye a little like "Uh you OK buddy?" and I told him it was my first ride back from COVID and I was testing negative and he was like Oh yeah right that explains it. I had ridden with him before but not in this horrible shape. I honestly should not have gone. Like my coworker said it took him about a month to get his energy back. About the same here. Slept like a rock that night. Would have taken and army to wake me up.

Damned...yea..40...noticed I couldn't just eat all the normal junk food I normally could without digestive tract issues. Other than that, I just don't seem to have the energy to get up and do a bunch of chores like I used to. I REALLY got lazy with keeping my vehicles perfectly detailed. Now my main hobby is taking an afternoon nap, lol. 47 will be here in August, grr... Otherwise I can still go out ATV riding for a day...anything to do with a lot of fun I can somehow conjure up a days worth of energy but the thought of raking leaves, spending a half a day cleaning vehicles, etc. just puts me into an afternoon nap anymore lol. I think stress and the way the world works now is a main cause of my energy dropping through the floor but IDK. Probably a little of everything.

On the plus side, during my mid to late 30s I did have a lot of back issues and had to wear a back brace just to make it through work and I remember growing up anyone that I knew who got back issues they never seemed to recover but knock on wood my back got better and I haven't had an issue in a good four years - it was so bad the last year I had back issues that I couldn't even run the skidsteer and now I don't even remember where I put my back brace...I'm lucky my back seemed to have naturally healed, I thought once its bad, it's bad forever. Even riding ATVs all day not one back issue.

I had something like that 10 to 12 years ago, jaw pain for about two days. Very painful. I went to the Dentist and he couldn't find anything. He said it could be a root dying and, if so, the tooth would need to be pulled. But the pain went away after two days and never returned. Maybe just a tooth shifted around and pinched a nerve.

I think the jaw pain ended up being part of my inner ear infection, I noticed I also partially lost hearing on one side temporarily. There might actually be infection in both inner ears.

Looks cool but bet its expensive. ofc a ton of companies working could drive down the price with economy of scale but if there is more profit to be made in traditional drive trains there is your answer

My doctor found that I have dangerously high LDL so now I'm having to avoid all red meat, processed meat, dairy/butter, fried stuff, cookies, cakes, or anything with saturated fat. I'm sticking to what they said but it sucks, always hungry. After a lifetime of pizza and cheeseburgers, it feels like that's the only kinds of food that make me feel full.
They wanted to put me on medication for it but I've opted to just improve my diet.
Probably gonna learn how to make Indian food, most of it's healthy. Lots of lean meat and vegetables.

I've been vegetarian on and off but always go back to eating meat again eventually. I actually limit red meat a lot already but still eat lots of cheese and butter so a great deal of it's probably from that. Not sure if I could be vegan.
Never really worried too much about what I ate but now it feels like it's starting to become necessary, I'll probably adapt cause I enjoy life and everything, I don't want to cut it short. I think it was higher before, I used to get chest pains and my blood pressure was always over 140, lately it's in the 120's which is normal.
One thing that vegans/vegetarians need to be careful of is refried beans in restaurants, a lot of them use lard. AFAIK Taco Bell doesn't use lard though, their beans are more or less okay for vegan/vegetarian diet.

Yeah every year that first big ride has me going "Do I have this in me anymore?" then I get back used too it after a few rides and I'm golden. There was a crazy long ride I was going to go too on Sunday but I decided no to go. It was 30 degrees out and a LONG ride. Once it goes under 40 it gets too cold for me to really have fun. Plenty of other rides coming up.

A friend of mine started a group ride, a lot of people have been showing up, it meets every Sunday. Todays ride the start was like a 1 minute ride from my front door. Nice.
I had every intention of going.....then when I got up today it was 18 degrees. Naw, I don't really have the proper gear for that. I could have soldiered through it but id rather not be shaking like a leaf lol

I got a pair of insulated Eddie Bauer pants and they are amazingly warm and look professional enough you can wear them in an office environment, great pockets too. $75 but worth it. I also got a $6 pair of insulated workout pants at a local thrift store which was pure luck. New I bet they were $50+ Also the ride I missed today just posted pics and looks like it was 6-8 people total who showed including the ride organizers. When it was high 40s between 75-100 showed. 18 is too low for most people it seems

Looked up Eddie Bauer insulated pants and found some on Amazon for $41. They look pretty nice too. *edit* Wow found some for even cheaper: www.amazon.com/Eddie-Bauer-Fleece-Resistant-Stretch/dp/B07XXDVDVBOne thing about biking pants though, I like for the pockets to have zippers. Seen way too many people out on the trails looking for their phone or keys because they crashed or were just riding crazy and didn't notice it fell out of their pocket. ^Those pants look like they might have a side pocket with a zipper but I can't tell for sure.

Mine are black but they also had them in camo and some other colors.
