So those are the games, huh, doesn't look like there's anything on there I actually own (or even want to own), so that's going to be a very easy pass. Destruction Derby 1 instead of 2? No Gran Turismo at all? That seems to be the general consensus. Edit: I couldn't agree more with what he's saying. The PS1 classic could've been hot selling item, if Sony hadn't been greedy and skimped to such an extreme to avoid paying licensing fees. Simply including 2 or 3 of the games he mentioned (Tomb Raider 1,2, or 3; Gran Turismo 1 or 2; Crash 1, 2, or 3; Silent Hill, Disruptor, etc.) would've made it much more appealing. I rented Disruptor back in the day and it was an excellent Doom clone.

I went ahead and ordered this Dell GSync 27" monitor. I'm going to return the Vizio tv (still unopened, because I was on the fence about keeping or returning it). I figure a gaming monitor is a better purchase for me, since I already own a nice large tv and my current gaming monitor is kind of a gimmicky (ultra-wide) and not a true gaming monitor. The ultra-wide is good for productivity/work. But not always so much for gaming i think, since a person can only focus on so much of the screen at a time. With some exceptions... it's good for some genres like RTS's, where you have units all over the place and you're constantly changing focus on different parts of the screen. So its usefulness definitely depends on the application or type of game. fyi, the Dell gaming monitor (27" 1440P/QHD GSync) is on sale for $349.99 www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-27-led-qhd-gsync-monitor-black/5293502.p?skuId=5293502

Price is only good tonight and maybe tomorrow (they didn't sound very certain). Since they won't do the price match (or return & re-repurchase in the store), I'll have to order it online and return the one I originally bought.

Evidently, the BestBuy online chat people are more empowered than BestBuy in-store associates and supervisors. With online chat, they're at least able to credit me the difference in $ equivalent of best buy rewards points, so no need to bother with another order & return.

My Gamecube still works afaik, I might get one of those HDMI adapters for it. Definitely would play Metroid Prime(s).
A friend of mine had a modded Wii that had a ton of games on it, I think it was Dolphin on it.

A Nintendo Switch modded with the "Dolphin" emulator to play Gamecube & Wii games is a compelling setup, because then you could play the entire Metroid Prime series released across all platforms on one compact console. But since everything's connected and online now, theoretically, Nintendo could release updates that bricks modded Switch consoles. All & all, despite the cost, playing games on the original hardware is best (for the truest gaming experience and nostalgia factor).

It's the one I'd get, because the design is better. stoneagegamer.com/gchd-plug-n-play-hdmi-gamecube-adapter-hd-480p.htmlEdit: It looks like they're already sold out and the sale ended.

$500 for a 32" Samsung monitor actually doesn't seem that bad.

The excellent contrast of QLED (VA panels) makes it a great gaming monitor. Text wasn't quite as clear though, compared to an IPS panel. But I thought it's passable after calibrated with MS clearfont. The only reason I returned it (the older model) was due to the garbage stand. I returned that Vizio tv a while ago too. Just not sure if I trust the brand and I didn't like that it doesn't scale images as well to 480P/720P compared to most other tv's. I just ordered a Samsung MU6290 49" because Target has them on clearance for $419. Killer deal on a 49" tv that's good for gaming. www.target.com/p/samsung-49-uhd-49mu6290/-/A-52897681Edit: Another reason for some people to choose a 2017 model year tv (over a 2018) is the component inputs. Most 2018 models axed the component inputs! Anyway, I thought it's a nice to have feature in case i ever decide to use RGB component cables with any of my older gaming consoles.

Also, regarding the Samsung MU6290 and its (possibly) accessible wireless Bluetooth (through the hidden service menu)... I watched some Bluetooth headphones reviews on youtube and the bluetooth headphones have really high lag. That's why I'll just stick with wired headphones and not even bother trying to enable bluetooth on this tv set.

I looked at the Samsung NU7100 (2018 model) and it's comparable to the MU6290 in price and picture quality. The NU7100 actually has component inputs, while the higher-end 2018 Samsung tv's do not (makes no sense).
But the MU6290 is still better... the screen is brighter, it has 5GHz Wifi (again, makes no sense that they removed 5GHz in the 2018 NU7100, other than just being cheap bastards), full-array backlighting (7100 is edge-lit), and more features in the menu (according to rtings.com). The new mid-range Samsung's are a clear down-grade from the prior model year, imo.

This is pretty nice, custom edition of the SNES that plays cartridges. Costs $250: www.polygon.com/2018/12/3/18123680/analogue-super-nt-ghostly-international-price-release-dateCan be bought here: www.analogue.co/editions/ghostly-super-nt/Comes with an 8bitdo controller, also custom. I feel like I'd be more inclined to buy one if it also could have ROM's loaded onto it and not just be an SNES system. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it does do that, but there is nothing about it on the website. Still considering buying one though. Was reading the features, it says Phil Fish designed the bootup animation sequence. Thought that was interesting, I don't think he's done anything since Fez.

I actually almost bought one of those earlier this year, glad I waited because the price is much better now. I ended up not getting one because Valve and Samsung made a free Steam Link app for Samsung's smart TV's.

I ended up not getting one because Valve and Samsung made a free Steam Link app for Samsung's smart TV's. The price he quoted was Black Friday and/or Cyber week sale price. It's gone back up to retail, he even states that near the end of the video. Just looked at this item in Best Buy a couple of days ago and it's true. Also, he doesn't recommend it at full retail and says wait for the next sale. As Christmas approaches, there's a good chance of another sale happening.

Damn, I missed it. I work nights so I was out like a light when that deal was going on. Just woke up. Based off the video review i linked earlier, it seems like such a good gaming platform for that price. I couldn't pass it up, so I ordered one and a 2TB Seagate external hdd. Already bought an Xbox controller with bluetooth adapter a while ago. Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB www.amazon.com/dp/B00FRHTTIA/ref=twister_B07454F4JH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1Amazon's Black Friday sale had the Shield at the same price ($139) and included a free Echo dot. I missed out on that deal, because at the time I thought the Nvidia Shield was just a video streaming device and had no clue about its other features (apps and games). If I see the same deal or a better deal sometime before Christmas, I'll post it here again.

Received a message/order status from Target. Well, turned out it wasn't such a great deal. That's big box retailers for ya. I've had the same thing happen when ordering stuff from Walmart.com. Order gets cancelled and no specific reason given, much less any sort of compensation (not even a $5 gift card or coupon). The "You have not been charged for the canceled item" is a lie too, as I see that my credit card was already billed a couple of days ago. If it moves from pending to a completed transaction, I'll probably have to go to Target and raise hell with a manager to get a refund. The joys of holiday shopping. lol
