This guy's working on a all-in-one mod that fixes the problems with Sega Genesis models 2 and 3. This could be a nice alternative (vs. doing separate mods to fix each problem).

I very well could spend $400 for an HDMI N64 and be happy doing so, but the DIY version of it doesn't seem too difficult. I think they even offer a service on Ebay for someone to do it for you, not sure how that works. I guess you have to send them your N64 and then they send it back.

btw, I emailed this guy and confirmed he installs the Ultra HDMI kit that has the latest firmware v1.08 It's a shame that the kits are only available through scalpers. Otherwise, you could buy the kit much cheaper directly from the ppl who make it and then pay someone $70 to do the install. Evidently, old Nintendo consoles and related mods are in high demand, because they're selling for a premium. Completely different story for Sega Genesis/MD, the consoles (even the good ones - model 1 w/ "high definition graphics" printed on the top of console) are sold for cheap (less than $50). And the sound mod for Genesis model 2 is only $25. Most of the Genesis/MD games are dirt cheap too.

"CCAM board" is the part you'd need for the Genesis model 2 audio mod. retrotimegames.com/products.htmlretrotimegames.com/ccam.htmlI went ahead and bought a model 2 for $26 from a seller on Ebay and the audio mod for $25, since I like that Genesis model 2 has a smaller form factor (and it's so dirt cheap so why not).

Interesting, is Bluetooth actually built in and not enabled?
I wonder if it might work with PS4 and the newer Xbox One controllers.

Interesting, is Bluetooth actually built in and not enabled? I wonder if it might work with PS4 and the newer Xbox One controllers. Where I found the link, the guy said it's built-in and not enabled in some of the MU6290's, but no guarantee that all of the MU6290's have it. I doubt it'll work with the controllers, but that's my guess. Because it's just a tv afterall and, typically, controllers are used with PC's & gaming consoles. My 32" Samsung J5500 has bluetooth and what I read about it is that it can be used with wireless bluetooth headphones, which could be a nifty feature if you're willing to shell out the cash for a decent pair of bluetooth headphones.

I can only compare it to original PS1 game discs when run on the PS3 and the PS1 classics on the PS3 and the 3D games look rough, even with smoothed out textures. If they do increase the resolution, that would certainly make it a whole lot better compared to the 240p res of the original. That looked already jaggerific on a CRT back in the day. Upping the resolution isn't enough, imo. They need higher resolutions and scanlines & texture filtering options. Sony took the barebones approach with 720P res and nothing more. Which is a shame, because both the NES & SNES classic offer 720P and a basic CRT mode (with scanlines and filtering, so the image doesn't look too sharp or show blocky pixels on hdtv's).

So those are the games, huh, doesn't look like there's anything on there I actually own (or even want to own), so that's going to be a very easy pass. Destruction Derby 1 instead of 2? No Gran Turismo at all?

I remember always hearing about how Sony copies Nintendo.
*edit* They make an HDMI adapter for the Gamecube, but this guy (who also had the HDMI N64 video) said it killed his Gamecube:
It wasn't really the fault of the adapter though, it should be fine for normal use but where the adapter plugs into broke or shorted out after the Gamecube accidentally fell.

I remember always hearing about how Sony copies Nintendo. Except not as good as Nintendo this time. I'm not impressed with the selection of games either. Although, the fighting games (Battle Arena Toshinden and Tekken 3) are lots of fun with multiplayer (2 players vs). For some people (who are really into fighting games), it could be worth getting the PS Classic just for those two games. Syphon Filter and Twisted Metal were really great back in the day, but I agree with the guy in the vid that they just don't hold up as well today, especially not on a modern hdtv (now, they're a mess of jaggies filling your screen). If they had options for scanlines and filtering, that would've helped these games hold up better.

I'll definitely get the N64 Classic when it comes out, or at least try to.

Sounds like a botched soldering job. Modders don't want to use too much or too little solder. If too little of it is used, the wires & whatnot can break loose easily (even from just dropping the item).

No Gran Turismo at all? Destruction Derby was impressive for a little while. But I quickly grew bored with it (this was back in the day when it was first released). Gran Turismo 1 was good & all, it launched a successful franchise. But, without a doubt, "Gran Turismo 2" FTW. So much love poored into that game by its devs. Crazy huge selection of cars and modding options (for PS1 game anyway... i haven't played the more recent Gran Turismo games).

I'll definitely get the N64 Classic when it comes out, or at least try to. Hopefully, the execs at Nintendo have finally realized that making enough classic consoles to meet demand is like printing money. It seems like they have for now. But they're known for engineering product shortages at launch. Even back in the day, they did this with their launches of SMB2 and SMB3. It's a clever marketing tactic that increases buzz about the product, which likely drives up demand for longer periods of time.

Seeing as we've discussed other hardware in here, just wanted to mention I bought these today (Logitech Z906's): www.microcenter.com/product/360317/z906-51-surround-sound-speakersWas gonna get the Z625's (2.1) but then I saw the Z906's and got them instead. They even pricematched with Amazon for $299, so overall I saved $100 on them. Did have trouble getting the optical output to work but it worked after restarting PC. My Z-5500's lasted for 12 years before ceasing to work, hoping these go at least that far again. They sound great, very clear and lots of bass which I actually had to turn down a little bit.

They have an HDMI mod for the NES too.. Hi-Def NES upgraded NES-101 Top Loader console and lot of six games. Lot includes Bionic Commando. The other games are pretty worthless, imo. Well, Duck Hunt is still decent for the nostalgia factor and could be fun to play for a few minutes every few years. But it can only be played with the light zapper and a CRT tv/monitor. www.game-tech.us/product/hi-def-nes-modded-nes-101-top-loader-console/Edit: Tetris is ok too. Of course, it's available in some iteration or other on just about every console made (NES And post-NES, that is).

There's a game on Gamecube called Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem that was really good.

There's a game on Gamecube called Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem that was really good. I've literally started that on emulators like 4 or 5 times and get distracted every single time.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the Nintendo (branded) Gamecube controllers in Best Buy and it literally does have the connector for the Gamecube (and Wii/WiiU) console/s. BestBuy's item page is 100% correct afterall. The (bad) deal is that Nintendo also sells a $20 adapter (4-player/controllers adapter, meant for 4-player Super Smash Bros Ultimate - sold separately) right alongside it, that lets you use Nintendo branded Gamecube controllers (old or new) on the Switch.

This guy reverse engineered the Sega Saturn and developed a mod that replaces its CD drive with a USB (game iso's boot from a thumb drive or hdd). www.patreon.com/prof_abrasive

Almost anything's possible, but that doesn't mean it's likely. The guy that did this finished his PhD while working on the project (he no doubt has a genius IQ). He devoted years of his life on the project...
