I can't believe this is as much of a thing as it is. I don't think I'd still wanna play any of those games for more than a few minutes, but then I'm not a gullible Nintendo fanboi...

As to emulators like a lot of people I got into emulators when they first came out in the 1990s. I didn't think about them for years.
There have been breakthroughs lately in a lot of them so I recommend googling and figuring out which ones to use. Computers are so fast now that 99.99% cycle accuracy is the key vs back in the 1990s where it was like 30% cycle accuracy + a bunch of hacks to make it "good enough"

Every few years I run through the original Bionic Commando with an emulator. When I was a kid I beat that game prolly 100 times no exaggeration.

The only emulator I've ever used is SNES9x - just for Bomberman really... even though you can assign all the controls I'm not a fan of using keyboards for gaming.

Higan was made requiring modern day multicore processors and uses no hacks of any kind. Gfx/physics/and sound and music will be so much better then in snes9x it isn't funny. Also the Xbox 360 controller works great with it.

I tried Higan, only problem I had was my Xbox One controller didn't work with it... It detected it and everything, I was even able to re-map the buttons. Just when I launched a ROM with it, it acted like the controller wasn't there. I'll try it again sometime, maybe now it'll work.

So with that you might be running into an issue with DirectInput vs Xinput. You may need a program like Xinput Plus or the Xinput drivers to make it work. I'm not sure. I use RetroArch with the higan core(called bsnes) and my Xbox 360 controller works fine with it

I might try Higan next time but SNES9x is already my default and works well for me. Already looks tons better than original SNES renderings. You don't exactly play those games for the graphics anymore anyway.
Not to mention that if I want to play NES/SNES/Genesis games on a TV I just load up my modded Wii.

I'm surprised I actually just got into the original Legend of Zelda, Punch-Out, Super Mario Bros, and Kid Icarus. But I'm finding Zelda a lot of fun and I'm compelled to complete it since it's been so many years I don't remember where anything is and it's like playing it for the very first time again. I agree about the emulators being the way to go. On the NES mini Punch-Out doesn't even feature Mike Tyson plus you have access to so many more games than what comes pre-installed.

...and so that's why we're going to make it even harder for anyone to buy one. Also go fuck yourselves for wanting our products...

Nintendo is a company run by clowns and treats its fans like children. I'm glad I lost interest in their products after SNES. You'd think that Nintendo fans (the adult ones) would finally give up on this company, after being kicked in the teeth so many times (misleading marketing and little concern about fans wishes - Wii U and now this). It's obvious that NES-mini was a marketing gimmick (i.e. Nintendo created artificial short supply by not producing enough, which generates buzz & interest in their other products, through the holidays).

Nothing wrong with that. I still own all of those games in the original cartridge format. Sometime last year, I played through the original Legend of Zelda (1st quest only) - emulator version, because i'm sure it looks better (given that I no longer own a CRT TV... otherwise, I'd play it with the original console & CRT).

The first one featured Mike Tyson and the second version featured Mr. Dream who they just swapped the head and changed him from black to white. It was speculated that the change was due to his rape conviction which happened about the same time, but really it was because his contract had expired and Nintendo didn't care to renegotiate because he had lost his title belt by then. Let me know how that that Pi turns out Sphinx! I've been wanting to get a RaspberryPi to mess around with and learn some coding. I can write Hello World in about 5-8 languages, but I'm a master of none. haha

There are all kinds of experiments & coding you can do with Arduino (including in conjunction with Raspberry Pi), much more than mini-gaming systems... sensors, robots, and probably whatever else you can imagine. www.amazon.com/Arduino-Ultimate-Starter-Circuit-Learning/dp/B00BT0NDB8/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492296075&sr=1-12&keywords=arduinostore.arduino.cc/

Someone should buy them all and flip them before someone else does.
*edit* Also Nintendo just discontinued the mini NES.

Most likely, it's going to be a repeat of NES mini and the SNES classic will be difficult to obtain (except through scalpers at ridiculously high prices).
It's a gimmick. To stay relevant and generate buzz around their new products, Nintendo re-releases decades old products in short supply (to create the artificial appearance that demand is high). The saddest part is how the media and public totally fall for it.
