The Ninth Configuration (Download): Um... Mmmm... What? This was a weird movie. Fun trivia, do you know who the astronaut is, in the Blattyverse? There's a clue right there. Once you know that, you have a line on why he was in the asylum. Lol, I just now saw this: "Joe Spinell – Lieutenant Spinell". Damn, that's respect! He was the cab dispatcher in Taxi Driver, the loan shark and Rocky's boss in Rocky and the sequel, Cheech in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, and the hood who held up his scarred and broken hands to show he was no stranger to torture at the hands of the cops, so don't bother, in The Seven-Ups. And most memorably, he captured the perverse horror lurking just below the surface in my neck of the woods (sort of) in Maniac. He played in another Roy Scheider film, Sorcerer, but not in a starring role. He starred in and also wrote Maniac, Cop, (unintended humor) and it's a spooky freakin' film, especially as this was filmed in New York City. Lol, we also have The Amityville Horror nearby.

Underworld (Bluray): I (finally) bought the most recent one, the 3D version just never seemed to come down in price, took 4 years to do so, but before I'm going to watch that I decided to rewatch the entire series because it's been a minute. It holds up but it's very derivative of so many other movies, especially the Matrix. The scene where Selene shoots through the floor is fairly close to what Oliver Gruner did in Nemesis.

I think I need to look up that Nemesis movie, lol. They tried the shooting the floor scene in a series I watched recently where they tested shooting stunts from all kinds of movies Mythbusters-style, but it didn't work, not even with a massive mounted machine gun. The floorboards themselves were shred to shit but the crossbeams remained intact so he didn't fall through. Fun trivia, do you know who the astronaut is, in the Blattyverse? There's a clue right there. Once you know that, you have a line on why he was in the asylum. I read that in the imdb trivia section, all in an attempt to try and make sense of this movie. You know, ultimately it reminded me a lot of that Shutter Island movie, which I won't spoil further if you haven't seen that...

You'd like Nemesis, it was filmed semi guerilla style. In the commentary, Pyun marveled at the one actress from a war torn country who had no fucks to give while doing her own stunts. She was more like a stunt actress. If you go into it wanting to like it, you'll like it. Low budget, but Pyun nailed the appeal of the violent cyberpunk sensibility of that era. www.blu-ray.com/movies/Nemesis-Blu-ray/216410/#ReviewCary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is of course very good, and Thomas Jane is up to no good in his brief part.
P.S. Regarding shooting out the floors, at least in Nemesis it was in a building that was both flimsy, and looking ready to collapse, so slightly less implausible.

Bob the Butler (2005) - I'd never heard of this movie but saw it free to watch on Youtube, it has Tom Green and Brooke Shields. Surprisingly, it's a pretty heartwarming family comedy and not like those other dumb movies that Tom Green has done. I mean this one was still pretty dumb for the most part but it still had heart.

TENET(Theater): As the Matrix sequels were to the Matrix TENET is to Inception, it even has a long highway action scene like the Matrix sequels. Christopher Nolan continues his obsession with time, Inception and Memento did a much better job of playing with time. Its the kind of movie you are supposed to watch multiple times to catch things you missed the first time but unlike Memento I am not really inclined to do so. Its not deep or profound in any way. The whole plot is completely forgettable and very inferior to the plot of Inception. Apparently the actors were all sworn to secrecy and could only read the script lockdown, give me a break. There is no earth shattering plot twist.
Decent movie but probably his weakest film. I really liked the music.
Also there were only like 10 people total in the whole theater.

YOLO Crystal Fantasy (Download): Not particulary well animated but positively bizarre cartoon about a girl and her toxic best friend getting in all kinds of weird adventures, not unlike Rick'n'Morty but way more crass and unsophisticated. That being said, the final (double) episode was uncharacteristic poetic, with the toxic friend disappearing into a different dimension where time went much slower and the other girl living out her life without that toxic influence until they finally reconnected, by telephone, on her death bed. Incredibly moving, especially considering what the entire series did up until that point...

Oh yeah I forgot to add. Its extremely hard to hear what the actors are saying in most of the scenes. The plot is complex so it sucks to have to sit and strain to hear. Its not a problem with theaters its how Nolan chose to mix the movie for some reason I don't understand.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Bluray): I'd always considered this the weakest of the original trilogy and while that's probably still true, it's not because this is bad in any way. In fact, I seem to appreciate it more and more. Bill Nighy is always great, Micheal Sheen does what he does and it has a certain looked which it earned over the course of 3 movies.
Apocalypse Now (Final Cut) (Bluray): I'm not that familiar with this movie that I can tell what exactly is missing from the Redux version but this is a solid cut, and, at almost exactly 3 hours, it's also a manageable running time. This is one of those movies where they went full out with the restoration. Boy, does it look amazing. This set also includes all the other cuts, but I'm pretty sure I'll just stick to this one next time. Didn't feel like anything was missing and didn't seem to run for too long in any of the scenes either...
Underworld: Awakening 3D (3D Bluray): OK sequel that you can tell was not written by the original team and needed to take a cut in budget as well. I probably like it better than I would if it was just in 2D.
The Babysitter (Download): What better reason to finally rewatch this now that a new one's come out, which I'll be watching tonight. Extreme silliness, but fun, a lot of fun. Samara Weaving is really turning into the quirky horror queen, how many has she been in now? Ash vs Evil Dead, Ready or Not, Mayhem, Guns Akimbo...
Striking Distance (Bluray): There's no reason why I should like this movie as much as I do or why I've seen it as much as I have. It really isn't anything special, just a mediocre cop thriller, but I just like it. It works for me. I remember I rented this on VHS way back when I was in college in the '90 and I ended up watching it twice in as many days.

Knives Out: Fun little movie very similar to Clue. Daniel Craig does a good job in this non-Bond role. He does an American southern accent pretty well. The main actress in this impressed Daniel Craig so much that she is in the next Bond movie.

Team America: World Police (Bluray): First time for the kids, umpteenth time for me, though the first time in HD. Guess I haven't seen this movie in a while then, ey?
Howard the Duck (Bluray): I've tried so hard to like this movie but they sure aren't making it easy. The slapstick and the slapstick-acting isn't doing it any favours. I have to say I was impressed by the optical lighting FX in HD. The entire movie was restored pretty decently, but those lighting FX looked especially spectacular, and so did the monster at the end. But even with all that in mind, it's still pretty crappy because of the tone and the acting...
Underworld: Blood Wars 3D (3D Bluray): Hey, I liked this one. Looked expensive and it looks like it was shot in 3D and if it wasn't, it might very well be the best 3D conversion I've seen to date. The biggest gripe I have with it is that it looks like they needed to deliver a 90-minute movie but they had way more material and story so some of it felt rushed. I wouldn't have minded sitting through another 30 minutes of this.
The Babysitter - Killer Queen (Download): Surprisingly good sequel, this one. I'd feared the worst after hearing it wasn't that good, but I can't say I didn't like it. It was just like the first but different enough and still surprising plot wise. I mean, I certainly didn't see it coming. The splatter that followed was fun and splatter-y, just the way I like it...

Raised by Wolves - Season 1 (Download): Pretty good, though I have to admit it started better than it ended and it didn't end at all. That's the most annoying thing. It's one of those series that doesn't resolve anything in a season and I hate that. There should be more coming, but if there isn't, for whatever reason, you just wasted all that time. I prefer a beginning and an end, like Watchmen. All this griping aside, I really enjoyed it. It looked amazing, I'm guessing we have to thank Ridley Scott for that, and there's a good amount of (positive) WTF at the start, keeping you really invested in what's going on. It's certainly out there thematically and visually.

A Few Good Men (Bluray): Top notch acting and writing. Classic courtroom drama that'll be great even after everyone in it is long dead.
Hollow Man (Bluray): It was cheap and I hadn't seen it in a long time, and it's Paul Verhoeven after all. Even though it's far from his best movie, there are still good things in it, most notably the CGI, that, for a movie from 2000, holds up surprisingly well, especially the circulatory system appearing and disappearing together with the bones and organs. Loses focus towards the end but it's fun enough to sit through regardless.

Hosts (Download): Low budget British horror that I don't really know what it's all about to be honest. Many scenes were cool and/or showed promise but the whole wasn't all quite there just yet. It doesn't have to be all screaming and running around like you'd get in an American movie like this, but maybe not have the characters just sit around idly all the time either after experiencing traumatic events. Interesting more than it was good, yeah, interesting, that's it.
Dune (Bluray): With the trailer for the new one released, we got to talking about this one at work, which made me want to watch it again. It just keeps getting better. I'm excited for the new one as well but I'll never stop loving this one.
Zathura - A Space Adventure (Bluray): It's been a long time. The FX hold up very well as well and the entire thing is just a whole lot of fun. I never realised the Future Man is the older brother. Also Kirsten Stewart looks really taste in this flick... ...whoops, just looked it up on the imdb, she was only 15 when it came out. What I meant of course was: she looked like she'd look really tasty in another 3 years or so...
The Boys - Season 1 (Bluray): Season 2 will conclude in a couple of days so until then I'm rewatching the first season again, for the 4th time, lol, so I can binge that one... ...if I can wait for it to end, that is. Chances are I'll start watching it beforehand although I have plenty of other stuff to watch as well.

The Midnight Gospel - Season 1 (Download): Trippy animated series in a style that's unlike anything else I've seen before, that's all about spirituality and stuff like that, derived from a podcast from its creator: Duncan Trussell. The core of the episode is always all kinds of crazy adventures that are going on with and around the 2 main characters, that are talking about stuff (taken entirely from episodes of the podcast). Sometimes extremely interesting and/or deep, sometimes not so much, but even then there's always something going on in the periphery that grabs your attention. Did I say it looked trippy?

Miller's Crossing (Download): Saw an article about how its the 30 year anniversary of this Coen brothers movie that doesn't get enough respect and was overshadowed by Goodfellas. Its a decent gangster film but tonally odd, its kinda a comedic drama and doesn't take itself seriously. Not as good as Goodfellas with no scene that can match Joe Pesci's "I'm funny how?" scene. It isn't in the same league as that.

The Boys - Season 2 (Download): More of the same, so still very good. A couple of surprises, some funny moments and lots of ultragore. Hope they don't wait too long to release this on bluray, if they still will. I mean, they released to first season, which I already didn't expect, so here's hoping for more.
12 Hour Shift (Download): Meh. Horror-comedy that's not played serious enough, making everything seem sillier than it should be. Started OK but I lost interest along the way. Not planning on buying or even keeping it.

Drib (Download): Documentary/Mockumentary, not quite sure which, about a comedian asked to do a viral campaign for an energy drink. Had a few good moments but overall I found it to be too dry to remain interesting for the entire runtime.
Retribution (DVD/Download): Don't think this HD version is much of an upgrade in comparison to the DVD I've owned for a long time. It's a J-Horror not unlike Kairo/Pulse and I only found out last night they're both made by the same director, so it all makes sense. Not as good as Kairo but nevertheless interesting and reasonably creepy in places albeit quite slow.
Books of Blood (Download): 3 stories from Clive Barker's Books of Blood that actually interact quite well with eachother. The second is the best by far, being genuinly creepy, the others are merely OK. The first could do with some trimming clocking off at half the runtime of the entire movie. But at least it wasn't boring, just not that interesting. I did like how it all tied up at the end.
Accion Mutante (DVD/Download): Incredible looking HD transfer for this low-budget Spanish cult scifi by Alex de la Iglesia about a bunch of cripples that kidnap the daughter of some rich industrial and take her on their spaceship in hopes of a ransom. Bloody, violent, crazy, silly, all the words to describe most of Alex de la Iglesia's work...
Slither (Bluray/Download): I have this on bluray, a pretty shitty bluray, so when a remasted version came along I decided it couldn't be any worse and it wasn't. Fun movie, now finally looking acceptable...

Bullets of Justice (Download): Intentionally bad, crazy Bulgarian flick that's mostly in (a sort of) English. It reminded me of a Kung Fury-type spoof crossed with Hell Comes to Frogtown and I loved it, for real. I laughed out loud so many times with all the unexpected choices they made and the general craziness of it all. I switched to this flick after turning off another 5 minutes in: Big Freaking Rat, which was just plain awful.
The Sum of All Fears (Bluray): Bought a boxset with 5 Jack Ryan movies in it. I believe this one was the only one I actually already had on DVD. I seemed to remember quite liking it and it seems I was right. Solid spy flick.
The Hunt (Bluray): The surprise is gone a second time, obviously, but there's still enough fun to be had with this movie.
Ready or Not (Bluray): Same goes for this flick. Samara Weaving is this century's scream queen and she gets to do plenty of that here.
Storm (DVD/Download): Swedish flick that's hard to put into a genre. It seems to start off as a scifi-action movie but slowly morphs into a psychological drama, which is where the best stuff lies. Obviously influenced by many sources but solid enough on its own. Found out Joel Kinnaman has a small role as a bartender, way before he made it in Hollywood...

The Hunt (Bluray): The surprise is gone a second time, obviously, but there's still enough fun to be had with this movie. Dunno which one you meant since multiple movies with this title. I assume you mean the 2019 one but the 2012 one with Mads Mikkelsen is great. I wrote about mass hysteria and witch hunts in college so the movie was right up my alley. Recommend it if you haven't seen it.

If I'd meant that one, I would've called it by its proper title 'Jagten', which I have failed to see to this day. It'll happen, probably, one day, when I have the time, during the next lockdown, lol, which seems imminent. Most likely, with what I know of that movie, I wouldn't call it 'fun' either Bumblebee (Bluray): Well, this had a surprising amount of transformers in it. I kinda ignored this movie for the longest time after hearing it's basically ET (or the Iron Giant), thinking it would just be a kid with a robot doing stuff, but it already opens with what may be the best bit of transformers to date: the classic Autobots doing battle against the classic Decepticons on Cybertron. It stayed fun after that, some humor, some feels, decent amount of action that didn't get too ridiculous or over-the-top with hundreds of people and robots destroying a city. Maybe it was my lowered expectation, but I ended up liking this a lot more than expected. The Mortuary Collection (Download): Neat little anthology movie with a good wrap-around for a change, starring the Kurgan as a mortician telling stories to a girl, which even wraps up with a cool little twwist ending. The segments are all good to great, with the last being the best: a sort of twist on the typical slasher tropes, which is a succesful short movie the director made a few years earlier. Fits well in this movie and manages to close it off with a bang. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (Bluray): One of the Jack Ryan boxset. Another decent spy-thriller action flick that seems to get a lot of hate on the imdb for being exactly that. If I didn't already own it, I wouldn't have rushed out to buy it, but I liked it well enough. I've no particular interest in or knowledge of the character of Jack Ryan, so I don't care it they made him into Jason Bourne, but some people sure seem to. I also tried watching the Dutch T-34 bluray I bought recently but had to shut if off after 5 or so minutes after finding out it was missing a good 10 minutes and those missing 10 minutes weren't some sort of cut version but rather an error during mastering. Sound and music just cuts off and bits of scene are gone. At first it just seemed weird glitches, but then all of a sudden a good 5 minutes went completely missing: the entire scene where the Russian guys prepare for the German attack right at the start of the movie is gone, which is where you get introduced to all of the characters. I decided it wasn't worth to invest 2 more hours in something so obviously broken and just shut it off.

The 2nd one was so bad I didn't bother with any of the others. When I used to work in the mental health field one of my clients absolutely loved the transformers and the movies. Would sit there and talk about them for hours. I was like "Um yeah the movies are good........" lol

Monsterland - Epi 1-4 (Download): The first half of a Hulu horror anthology series that's not exactly what I was expecting but that doesn't make it bad in any way. Yes, I was expecting a more silly horror series like a Creepshow and I got a serious psychological horror instead where the monsters are more methaphorical but so far it's been really interesting. It's more unsettling than scary and/or gory, but that's fine.
50 States of Fright - Season 2 (Download): More of the same. 4 new segments in 10 episodes. Nothing bad though nothing outstanding either.
Midway (Download): Because I'm currently in the middle of reading a book about the war in the Pacific (Flyboys: A True Story of Courage by James Bradley) I decided to check this out. Feels like I'm happy I got some extra information because the movie throws a lot around with very little info surrounding it (like the Doolittle raid, maybe that's more common knowledge in the US, but I only learned about it from reading the book) and I probably would've found it much harder to follow without it. Decent enough movie that didn't really impress me but it was still nice to put some visuals to the stuff I read.
Patriot Games (Bluray): Another from the Jack Ryan boxset. I don't think I ever knew Thora Birch played his daughter. She's incredibly young in this but yet she still looks exactly the same, lol.
Crumbs (Download): And the award for weirdest film this week goes to... I don't think I ever saw an Etiopian film before (directed by a guy from Spain). It's just about impossible to explain, but it's post-apocalyptic (although how you'd be able to tell in Ethiopia I don't know, everything already looks run down) and it's about this deformed guy working his way towards a spaceship, meeting weird people along the way. The funniest part is when a storeowner is taxing the crap people bring him, like a plastic toy sword, but he makes it out to be this archeological find, a weapon warriors used to use in the wars that destroyed the planet. Makes you wonder how right they are about all that ancient stuff in museums nowadays, lol. While watching this I found out the same guys also made another movie, called "Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway", which came out as an Arrow boxset with Crumbs being on a second disc. So instead of downloading that, I just ordered the bluray instead. Can't wait...

Clear and Present Danger (Bluray): Movie no4 of the Ryan boxset. I must've seen this movie before but I'll be damned if I remembered anything about it. Pretty good. In the trivia section of the imdb, I read they're actually using the SUV scene as training material.
Borat - Subsequent Moviefilm (Download): ROFL, this was better than expected. I was never the biggest Borat fan, so it's good he plays other characters in this as well. But the biggest surprise was the girl that was playing his daughter. She's just as nuts as he is and manages to bring it. Probably the best bit is where these 2 conspiracy theory nuts have just been telling him the most outlandish tales but when Borat shows him some of the stuff they're being told in Kazachstan they instantly recognize and discard it as bullshit, lol...
Evil Dead Trap (Download): '80s Japanese horror that's pretty neat at the start and amazing at the end but sadly also has 30 minutes in the middle where it just stops dead. Starts as somewhat of a slasher but end with a mutated baby wreaking havoc, so I forgive them the slow middle part, lol...

Cop, I recently facepalmed myself when deciding to watch Dark City, when I realized that (spoiler alert for The Man in the High Castle) in Dark City Rufus Sewell plays a decent guy who had the false memories of being a serial killer, and in The Man in the High Castle he plays a Nazi piece of shit who eventually discovers that, in another reality, he was a decent guy. And the star of the series, the character Juliana Crane, is even more like the protagonist of Dark City, as eventually she "remembers" her other lives. I'm just now starting the last season of TMITHC, but this plot point regarding Sewell's character came up a while back, and I don't remember ever really noticing the connection. Did you see the similarity? I have to wonder if when casting the role of the important Nazi, Sewell's role in Dark City was a factor in choosing him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rufus_Sewell
