I am playing through all the Resident Evil games at least up to 4. I saw there's a PS4 version of RE5 out now... never played it before; anybody know if it's any good? RE5 is a fantastic action game but not very scary. I'd recommend it but its creepy factor isn't very high.

Just finished RE3 Nemesis. I always read it was one of the weakest in the series but it is comparable to 1 and 2.

Got Resident Evil Code Veronica X for Gamecube up and running on Dolphin. Hard coded at 30fps which sucks but no biggie.
Doing that then on to Resident Evil 0 Remaster

Yeah I enjoyed Nemesis, I've played it through a few times. That feeling of dread sort of follows you through the game as you constantly have to deal with Nemesis. Code Veronica is the only one that I never finished, I actually did start playing it a few months ago, I should probably finish it.

Only RE games I've ever played are the 2 on-rails shooters. Even bought a PS-Move especially for'em. I completed them both multiple times, a few times with the controller and then again with the move-gun (which was considerably easier)...

Funny I was planning on skipping the rail shooters and just going for the proper games.

The proper RE games never particulary interested me but I liked playing the House of the Dead (3 and 4) games (with the kid). When those 2 RE shooters showed up cheap in a PSN-sale I figured it might double our zombie shooters inventory. Games are much slower and harder (initially) than the HotD ones so the kid wasn't particulary on board when we tried out one and they sat there collecting virtual dust till one day I fired one up again by myself and found out I liked it. A lot more technical (more buttons/weapons/importance on headshots) and less arcade than HotD but with more replay value. Did the easier levels a lot of times to unlock the better weapons for the harder levels, which are a requirement when playing with a controller. With the move-gun you can get a lot further (even on harder difficulties) just using the standard pistol...
Never having played a RE-game, I also liked how they pretty much summarised every RE 'plot' up to that point...

If you want a fun shooter RE4 completely changed the survival horror genre and an HD remaster is out there

It appears the PC version is the best with mods(no surprise there) but the XBone/PS4 ports are competent.
I played the original on PC first and switched to PS2. Still debating if I have it in me to play RE4 after playing all these other RE games.

RE4 is fukken ace, finished it multiple times on Gamecube and PS2, seem to remember the GC pad worked really well for it.

RE4 is the only one I've ever finished. I had fun with the survival mode for a while.

Finished Code Veronica X, and with that I am done with the "old" Resident Evil games requiring emulators and hacks.
Solid game especially considering it was their first fully 3d game. However I did start to get "puzzle burden" or whatever you call it. No other RE game has that much doubling back. Jesus.
Was just sick of doing all the damn puzzles about 80% of the way through and wanted the damn story

I agree, RE4 was awesome. I also enjoyed Resident Evil 0, that one was intially Gamecube exclusive but they just recently made a remastered version of it.

Well tonight I finished the last of the "classic" games so here are my thoughts:
Resident Evil 1
The one that started it. Solid especially with the remaster. Great atmosphere. There were a couple of scenes that didn't age well but overall was a lot of fun.
Resident Evil 2
Hyped to hell and back as the best in the series. I enjoyed it but I don't know if it is better then the first. It is for sure fun and I recommend it but its the problem of hype. I will play the remake when it comes out
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Just might be my favorite of the classics. Something about this one just worked for me.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
Supposedly I played a shitty version. People bitch about the gamecube version being inferior to the non-X. I dunno. Was fun and the first true 3D so its kinda rough. This one bothered me with all the damn running back and forth. Not bad but probably my least favorite.
Resident Evil Zero
Good and feels very much like part 1 to me, having a team was nice. Some backtracking but not as obnoxious as Code Veronica X.
Conclusion
In order of enjoyment I would say RE1, RE3, RE2, REZ, and RE Code Veronica

Well Resident Evil Revelations #1 is exactly what I expected so far. A simplistic corridor shooter. Ever room is a self contained cell and if you close a door monsters can't follow. Glad I only paid $5.
