Passed my bedtime. Luckily I work from home Fridays lol.
I finished Amnesia The Bunker tonight. I'm kicking myself for not finishing it when I got it last year as its right up my alley. I got HDR working by changing Nvidia settings for OpenGL when I was about 25% through the game.
It has influence from Alien Isolation for sure. Unlike that game it is just long enough, not too long, not too short. The game literally has no fat. I took my time getting all the items I needed and such near the end or I could have ended it a bit sooner.
As an example of no fat, I decided to do some scouting of an area before I ran back to base to save............I ended up finding a key area and multiple items for the end of the game going down a random hallway.
I already started a New Game Plus, it lets you change a ton about the game from resources, damage, AI aggressiveness, AI randomness. Also New Game Plus changes the location of a couple of key items that make the game get into the 3rd act.
Like 1990s Resident Evil you start with a very limited inventory......6 slots just like RE1 I think. I changed it so I start with 15. I made fuel last longer but the AI more aggressive for my next play though.
Similar to the Diablo games every play through is randomized, tho unlike Diablo the map isn't. One of the items for crafting is a stick........I found two sticks my first play through the entire game.....the second one right before the end.
Great survival horror might be the best they have done.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is seen as the worst in the series but I have read a few people who say it got way too much flak and is an excellent game with a great atmosphere so I might play through it next since I've finished all the Amnesia games besides that one

A new version of DXVK is out and its a pretty major improvement as now it supports DirectX 8 without having to use a DX8 to DX9 wrapper or the D8VK project that was behind the main project: github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releasesThis means old DX8 games can have broken features/performance fixed by Vulkan hypothetically. I am a big fan of the Thief games and Thief Deadly Shadows is a DX8 native game. I am testing this new version of DXVK right now and its smooth sailing so far. You can only go up to 100 fps max in Deadly Shadows because like in a lot of old games going higher breaks the physics. One of the features in DXVK doubles the FPS you are getting, so the FPS is capped at 100 fps but I'm getting 200. Its similar to Lossless Scaling I think. I should try that with Deadly Shadows just for fun.

I just got home a bit ago but I did get Lossless Scaling up and running. My first test game was Thief Deadly Shadows. I REALLY wish the source code would leak for that game. It uses a heavily modified version of the Unreal engine 2.0 from the early 2000s.
Anyway its one of those games where the framerate and physics are tied together. You can uncap the FPS but if it goes much over 100 you can no longer pick locks. I locked the FPS at 100 and got 3x frame generation working for 300 fps locked. It looks and feels smooth but not quite as smooth as a natural 300+ fps.
Amnesia A Machine for Pigs is locked at 60 fps. I got it running at 180. Feels smooth.
One downside is you have to run as Windowed/Borderless Windowed mode for it to work.

I remember Q3A being a great game for high framerates. That's one I would try for sure.

After I finished The Bunker I started a custom New Game Plus, finished it again. Then for the hell of it I did another custom game but made almost all the options brutally hard. They added a very hard game mode called Shell Shock, the custom mission I made is way harder then that. A completely full generator on the hardest difficulty doesn't even last 5 minutes. There is a section of the game that requires the generator to be on and saving requires fuel on the hardest difficulty.
I think its possible to have a run of the game that is impossible to finish because you run out of fuel/containers to carry fuel. That would be frustrating but Roguelikes have been doing that for decades.
Anyway as you can guess the monster in The Bunker is much more aggressive on the highest difficulty, I accomplished a lot in a run, decided to check One. More. Room. before I went back to the base, ofc the monster kills me. Fuck. Lost 30 minutes of progress.
Don't know if I have it in me to finish the game on this crazy high difficulty.

One of the last traditional RTS I got into was Emperor: Battle for Dune. I kinda forgot it existed. Someone made it work with modern computers. Its abandonware now. I guess you cannot get it digitally anywhere legal wheybags.com/blog/emperor.html

Oh yeah Lossless Scaling works with RTX HDR if you change the settings around.
Tonight I had to pause and appreciate. I'm playing a 20 year old game, it has HDR which was never implemented in the game because it didn't exist, running on a DirectX level it was never meant for with heavy AA, and running at 300fps
Technology is cool

This probably explains why Sony's handhelds failed, while Nintendo's succeeded. Nintendo's not about graphics fidelity, rather simple but fun gameplay. With such small screens you lose too much detail and, therefore, an immersive experience. On the flip side tho, you'd think this would make VR goggles more popular than they've been, because the apparent screen size and depth of field should allow for the most immersive setup. Maybe the goggles are heavy and the dangling wires detract from the experience? I was tempted to say it's the cost, but then look at how much ppl are spending on PC builds and graphics cards these days.

Beat the RoboCop game again on new game plus, very fun and feels like a genuine RoboCop experience. Some great gameplay mechanics too, you can grab enemies and throw them at other enemies, or pick up objects to throw. Throwing heavy things like a dumpster will go in a straight line through them and knock them all aside, which is pretty cool. One time was getting shot at by a heavy machine gun from a hole in the side of this building, picked up a TV and threw it up there and just heard this "OOF!" One of my favorite things to do is throw enemies into the air and then shoot them in mid-air, there should be an achievement for that. Also fun to shoot an enemy when they're about to toss a grenade, makes them drop it at their feet. Definitely reminds me a lot of Cyberpunk 2o77, they borrowed a lot of elements from it for sure. Someone should make a RoboCop mod for Cyberpunk.
*edit* Looked it up and there are a few Robocop mods for it, but not an actual mod that adds him to the game or anything. One was for lighting and the other adds robot cops. There would probably be copyright challenges with making an actual RoboCop mod.

Decided to download the Street Fighter 6 demo. Only two fighters. Realized my monitor was on SDR. Quit, turned on HDR, went back in. Holy shit. I didn't think a fighting games HDR would look that good with no tweaks or calibration.
HDR has ruined me completely, if its off at all its the first thing I notice.

lol I found another easteregg/reference to the movie in RoboCop Rogue City:
{CLICK FOR SPOILER} When that guy in the first movie gets killed by ED-209 during that botched presentation where he points a gun at it, when he gets shot up he falls on that display/model of Delta City. During one part of the game, I was in that same room and found a nearby closet with what appears to be that same thing, still smashed and covered in blood.

I didn't realize 7DaystoDie 1.0 was out till right before bedtime. It looks way different then it did when it started early access 10 years ago, but its the same game underneath.
Unlike DayZ it has a tutorial that ends with you getting starting gear and a free gun......its not a very good gun but it gets you started. Then it has more quests that get you started on building a base and everything.
According to Steam I have 123 hours.......I could have sworn I had way more then that

[post void] - Got this on Steam for around $2, very fun retro shooter where you have to kill enemies in order to stay alive until you get to the end of the level. In between levels, you can choose from different weapons or other perks like reloading faster, or getting a hud marker that points to the end of the level, among other things. Very simple graphics and the levels are very similar each time but with more difficulty and enemies. For $2 I think it's a great game, gets more fun each time. By far I think the knife might be the best weapon, but that might change.

Beat Post Void, was very fun. Once you figure out that the main thing is just to reach the end of the level, it becomes a breeze. Also the shotgun is probably the best weapon in the game, maybe the smg.

I decided to see if CyberPunk and Lossless Scaling X3 frame generation worked well together..........didn't seem to play that nice. Seemed smooth then I changed some gfx settings. Also it really messed up the HDR. Loaded a save driving around the city and it said I was getting 350 fps but it felt very laggy. Not recommended. Cyberpunks native Frame Generation works better

I decided to try an Xbox emulator. Never did that before, was just curious how it would run. Made my CPU hit 98c before the fans on my AIO spun up, the hottest I have ever seen it.
Tried Lossless Scaling with the emulator and it worked great. So weird to have this program come out of nowhere that lets you 2x/3x your FPS, it has some glitches of course but it works. Also tried Thief The Black Parade capped at 90 FPS. That worked fine giving 180

Ended up playing through most of a Thief The Black Parade level last night when I meant to just test Lossless Scaling. Can't believe that mod actually exists and is better then some AAA games.

Found this video from one of the developers of Amnesia The Bunker and decided to watch it.....he mentioned that "with the Halloween patch if you break boxes there might be loot inside"
.....I finished the game twice and started a 3rd playthrough and I had no idea you could break boxes for supplies.

It was a fun little boomer shooter. The second one got huge backlash and I never ended up getting around to playing it but I really enjoyed the first one. It feels brutally overwhelmingly hard till you figure out the controls and get a couple of weapon upgrades.

I've been wanting to play Voxel Doom for a while so I finally got around too it. Instead of doing it the old school way I did in the 1990s with a bunch of .bat files I actually downloaded a proper launcher, Doom Launcher github.com/nstlaurent/DoomLauncherIf you want to use something like Voxel Doom with big custom campaigns or any other mod its very easy with Doom Launcher. Basically it will ask where your iWad is (the files that come with Doom / Doom 2). If stuff comes in a .zip file you leave that all together. Then you click the 3 lines and Add Files... and add whatever files you are going to want to use. From here its super easy to have a default profile with a ton of mods, and then you can easily change it for custom maps (pwads), it will show the readme and automatically add any other files that come with the custom maps. Anyway, I wanted to try Voxel Doom and I read there is an extra gore mod like in Brutal Doom, but it added support for Voxel Doom so I downloaded that. Since I am on OLED the pitch black areas of the game are actually pitch black so I also added a flashlight mod. The custom map set I wanted to try is one of the highest rated of all time, "Doom the Way ID did It" it is for Doom 1, so no Super Shotgun Someone made a really cool mod that adds the Super Shotgun to Doom 1. Rather then just give it to you its more organic. Any shotgun that spawns in the world on the floor has a 10% chance to be a Super Shotgun, also 10% of the Shotgun Guys are Super Shotgun guys, they shoot at you with the SS and when you kill them they drop a SS. When testing this mod the first Shotgun guy in the first room of level 1 was a SS guy lol. When I actually played the PWAD I wasn't as lucky. I was going to download .mp3s of the Doom music in high quality, then I found someone did a remake of the music but played actual guitars and drums when they called for it: forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=24423Not the first person to remake the Doom/Doom 2 soundtrack but very high quality and in a format where you can just use it as a mod. Anyway, this is how my Doom Launcher looks after doing a quick setup:

I have Brutal Doom with a voxel mod, it's a special one that doesn't affect enemies (they are still 2D sprites) but makes pick-up items and world objects look 3D, actually looks pretty awesome and I especially like how it makes pick-up items look.
Been playing Fallout 76 again cause my nephew started playing it, one thing about this game is I've always had an audio issue where all the surround channels swap around while in the main menu. Finally decided to try dropping audio quality from 24 bit to 16 bit and that solved the issue, can't really hear any difference in sound quality either. maybe in certain things

Finally decided to try dropping audio quality from 24 bit to 16 bit and that solved the issue, can't really hear any difference in sound quality either On a modern system with no hardware/software issues you won't hear any difference switching bit depths. I use a RME ADI-2 DAC FS which is a high end all in one DAC/AMP and it only supports 16-bit/24-bit and caps out at 48,000hz. Now in the 1990s/early 2000s soundcards and the Windows sound stack was nowhere near as advanced as it is now, and it was completely possible that you would hear nasty artifacts listening to music that was badly converted from 44,000hz(CD audio standard) to 48,000hz(computer audio standard). Long story short any $2 DAC chip in a modern soundcard should work fine unless there is some kind of bug in the hardware/software. Now manufacturers marketing will try and sell you 32-bit/384,000hz sound hardware that is of no benefit at all.

So Legacy of Rust in the new released of Doom/Doom 2 is supposed to be amazing.
Tried it in the new release but I greatly prefer the graphics/mods I installed in GZDoom.
Happy to say it works fine, Legacy of Rust is stored as id1.wad as well as a weapon and res file. Copied them to the GZdoom folder and added them via Doom Launcher. Playing fine.
I managed to find the secret level in Legacy of Rust. I had a key in my inventory I never used. Big hint. Kept searching the map and finally found a secret which lead to another secret. Had no idea that is what I was stumbling into.

After quite a long break in playing a PC game (Doom Eternal kinda burned me out), the kid and I played Bulletstorm Anarchy Mode in an attempt to secure an achievement I'd never be able to get on my own (getting a certain score as a team). We tried last week but were unsuccesful. We were almost there when the kid's game froze and we weren't really interested in replaying 19 waves just to get to the only wave where the achievement score was actually possible so we postponed it to this weekend. Got it on our first try...
