I txt him this morning and he is doing OK, he keeps passing out from the pain every once in a while he has surgery scheduled to get screws holding the bone in place later this week, just Rx painkillers to deal till then.
My arm is healing up but sensitive, there is a group that meets every Monday I really want to go but I am being an adult and going to take at least today off. There are other rides.
Also oddly enough I mentioned to the group I was with Saturday what ride I went to Friday night and this guy was like "Oh you rode with my son then, he is 14 and has his hair dyed pink" and showed me a picture, sure enough even tho there were 100+ people there Friday I ended up riding next to his son for a while.

I am finally getting over COVID and have gone on a few rides finally, yesterday I could feel in my lungs the damage COVID did, but today it felt a lot better. I think getting out in the sun and getting some exercise did wonders, feels like I sweated more of that sickness out. I felt like I was biking in slow motion my first ride back from COVID. I was having one hell of a time with long climbs. I'm feeling much better now. In waaay better shape too from riding all summer.

My helmet light won't charge anymore. I have a really nice Bontrager helmet that has a dedicated light mount but I decided to hit up Amazon first and saw this for $17: www.amazon.com/dp/B08M9M67RM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsIts very slim compared to my last helmet light and I got the permanent mount on with no issues. Taking it out for a ride tonight.

I've been on a few rides where someone loaned me one of those small super-powerful flashlights and a bungee cord to put it on my helmet, it worked pretty well.

Tonight I lost my biking glasses, they were like $10 so no biggie, cheap light is working fine.
Was a girl I thought I recognized on the ride. It starts with a very steep downhill and she wrecked right behind me. After we stopped she said she had only done paved rides and had been meaning to make this Thursday night group ride all summer but her schedule didn't allow it. She said she thought she was in over her head and was going to go back to the parking lot. Convinced her to stay with us till almost the end. Gave her a list of newbie rides around town.
Her bike is a GT not sure if that is a good brand or not.

GT is one of the best I think, they've been around a while.

My first "real" bike was a Gary Fisher Wahoo, on todays ride was a couple of elementary school kids, one was riding a Trek Wahoo. I forgot when Trek bought Gary Fisher they made the Wahoo a kids bike. Was cool seeing one IRL.

That's cool. My first "real" bike was a Dyno Compe (BMX) something or other. Not sure what happened to it, I think someone borrowed it and never gave it back, which sucks. Dyno was actually made by GT back then, was a more budget-friendly line but it was a very solid bike and I loved it. I think GT still makes a BMX bike called the Dyno Compe.

Been busy the last week, yesterday I went out with a friend so skipped the group ride I usually do. Instead I did the same city ride I did when I got my bike last December. I was really out of shape then, took me over an hour and I had to hop off and push up a hill a few times. Took me 40 minutes and I didn't have to hop off my bike once this time around.

Also I have a potential job in NYC with a really great company but I am hesitant because I just now got the hang of all the trails here. Dunno what kinda single track they have in NY/NJ

AFAIK there are mountain bike trails in NYC: www.trailforks.com/region/new-york-city-region/Was also reading about a place in Queens called Cunningham Park. Trailforks is pretty cool, if you zoom out it shows even more places with mtb trails that are around. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of trails in NY/NJ.

I won 2 tickets to a skills clinic with The Ride Series MTB from a raffle a while back, that's coming up pretty soon. Decided to take my brother, he's the one who got me into mtb'ing.

Thursday I went on a great ride but had a couple of ebikes, the one dude was not in shape at all but was hauling ass through the woods. Then someone shared this in a local biking Facebook group:

Very cool. I went on a great ride yesterday, did this expert section but it's not too bad, just has a lot of techy terrain which I enjoy a lot. I'm constantly discovering that I underestimate both myself and my bike a lot, starting to get good at track standing and ratcheting up tricky climbs. The trail I go to has a sewage treatment plant nearby, sometimes the air around the south part gets very ripe, I'm talking about strong enough to make a person pass out. Thankfully that part of the trail is pretty flat and boring except for a few small things, plus it tends to stay muddy since it's a low lying area, so I usually avoid it anyway. The north part has all the good terrain and climbs/descents and it's far away and upwind enough to avoid the smell. The air around the sewage treatment plant gets very smelly, if I go the short way to the trails I always end up driving right past it and that smell seems to stick to my car after I'm past it.

That's awesome, I think the biggest group ride I've been on has been no more than 4 people.

On my group ride last night I happened to glance to my right and the dude next to me was riding the exact mountain bike I got when I graduated college, the Gary Fisher Wahoo. Pretty sure it was the same year and everything:
The pictures I took came out crazy blurry but the video was OK. Can't believe it was the same color scheme and everything. I thought about trying to buy it from him but it was too small for me anyway.

I was looking forward to going this weekend but the closest trails are all rained out, I'll probably go somewhere further which I don't mind. Bentonville is only a 5 or 6 hour drive for me, I really should make that trip some time.

Since it's getting a lot cooler outside and all I have is shorts, I bought some new pants for biking. They're made for hiking but supposed to be very good for biking too. www.amazon.com/dp/B07T27KKT9/

A decade or 2 from now when I start getting old, I'll probably start considering an ebike but this one looks amazing:
