I first misread the title as $10 phone lol.
I'm still using a Galaxy S8 and still very happy with it. I'll probably keep using it until it starts having problems and needs to be replaced, just like I did with my Galaxy S3.

I'm on the S9+ I got last May, I recently upgraded to Android 9.0 OneUI so it has the same software as the S10+. I think it would be insane to upgrade to the S10+ when mine is less then a year old.
There are people on the XDA forums who upgrade every single year. I'm hoping my S9+ lasts me till 2021.

One cool thing is the battery size going up. After the Note 7 fiasco Samsung has been conservative with battery size, they have been slowing ramping it up.

Why?

In my case I got the S9+ because my Moto X Pure's battery was dying. It hit the 2.5 year mark and went to shit. Almost burning hot to the touch and would drop to 50% power in half an hour of very light usage. That said I don't know if I am going to bother with a flagship again. The Moto X was considered a "high mid range" when I got it in 2015 and it was all I really needed. Next time I might just get another Motorola or and LG.

I guess it's a good thing I don't do any banking on my phone. Its funny despite working in the IT field I never did any phone banking till I got this one, I have the biometric fingerprint login for all 3 of my banks. I didn't even use online banking till like 2010 because I didn't trust it for whatever reason. I still don't deposit checks at ATMs cuz I dont trust them not to get lost. I always hit up a teller.

It's probably way more secure to do it on your phone as opposed to a workstation....as long as it isn't an Android phone.

I'm happier with the S10 than I thought I would be (so far). The packed in ear buds are the best sounding ear buds I've ever heard before, even better than my Sennheiser Momentums! And they're also the most comfortable! You don't even feel them in your ear! The key is to use the proper size inserts. The default ones where too small and didn't seal/fit snug enough and lost bass.
I'll really don't upgrade phones that often compared to most real phone nuts. Heck, I skipped three gens coming from the S7! The thing is, I go here and go there to this event and that event and like to film and take pics and if you think about it, back in the day you would buy a separate still camera, separate camcorder, separate GPS that you had to pay for annual map updates, separate portable mp3/CD/etc music player - you get my drift and now you can combine all those devices together and at much higher quality than in the past into one single compact device that every part of it gets updated automatically as updates roll out. I would say for what you get out of these flag ship phones (I really wish we would stop calling them phones, we need to make up a new name for them as they're so much more than a phone, lol.) that they are well worth their price.
Lets see, I can film 4k at 60 fps, or ultra slow motion 900+ fps, do my banking, listen to music at the highest quality, navigate me anywhere I need to go with maps that are constantly updating for free, even check my heart rate and oxygen levels. Stuck at the laundromat at night and wanna watch the Supercross race live? Yup, can stream live TV and in HD. Any song that I want to hear, I just say OK Google, Play "this track - by this artist" and like magic I'm listening to it. Don't forget games....the graphics of games on these new flagship phones is phenomenal. I can scan maintenance codes in my car and reset them, show telemetry like G forces, 0-to60 times, real time fuel usage, and I think we're getting the point. There's almost nothing that they can't do. So when you look at it this way, they're really a great device and well worth the price.
I've been an audiophile for my entire life....the sound quality coming out of the headphone jack on this phone and the sound of the packed in AKG earbuds is well worth the price alone to me.... I've been listening to music on it most of the day....sounds so good I can't stop, lol... Down with Sennheiser...AKG in da house...lol. And yes my phone is also my alarm clock in which is fully customizable with infinite amount of freely downloaded alarm sounds, my notepad to write down my grocery list, auto alerts of severe weather, weather radar wherever I am, etc.....just amazing devices....

Fuck all that streaming bullshit, just plonk some mp3s on it. I have 11,000 something songs on my phone. I have a 200 gig sdcard so my phone can hold my entire music collection now. Been collecting MP3s since like 1996 and have a few still floating around from my original collection of ripped CDs. It uses less power and no data so I don't have spotify or google music or anything. Been using PowerAMP as my player since my original android phone

This is one thing that kinda sucks about the s10 www.sammobile.com/2019/02/20/psa-galaxy-s10-doesnt-have-notification-led/The S9+ has it, my first android phone had a notification LED but the others I've owned after haven't. When I got the S9+ I thought it was a cool feature. The color tells if you if you have a txt or email also charging level. Not a deal breaker but annoying.

Just tried it myself and it works:
And it's definitely using my headphone cable as an antenna because I can make a weak station come in and out better by moving my headphone wire around! Don't know why you would want to do this though? Sound quality of FM sucks compared to high quality streaming/MP3 plus you have commercials and a lot of yip-yappin'.

Been using PowerAMP as my player since my original android phone In all honesty, there's no real difference between using Google music and permanently saving songs to your device so that you don't have to keep re-streaming them plus it's so much more convenient to keep up with new music plus be able to listen to any song by any artist on demand. I normally download all my playlists on Google music so that they don't have to be constantly re-streamed. Not to mention, my cars head unit uses Android Auto so Google music is totally integrated with my car to where I can just tell the car to play what I want and not even have to touch a thing. Downloading or ripping MP3's to the PC and then copying them over to the phone is quite cumbersome. At least with Google music it's kinda just like Steam- your music and playlists follow intact from device to device whether I'm on my laptop, desktop, or portable device. I don't have to copy or update playlists from device to device which would almost be impossible to keep everything in sync on all devices. For example, if I modify or make a new playlist with Google music, it's automatically updated on all devices. Another nice thing is that a lot of remasters has come out since I've bought certain CD's which I might of never known about if I didn't have Google music and I surely didn't want to re-purchase a bunch of CDs anyway. I did get in on the early promo for Google music when it first came out for $7 a month. Definitely worth it for me.

Anyway, the way I do things is I when I am downloading music I just drag it to my Music library on my comp and now that I have a big enough SDCARD I also drag it to my phone. Yes this means doing stuff 2x. My computer music library and my phone music library aren't 100% synced which is kinda annoying but not the end of the world. Also for one off tracks I hear listening to internet radio there is an app I use called Peggo. peggo.me/You have to turn on install from unknown sources or whatever on your android. Then you type in whatever song, I have it set to save in the music folder in my SDCARD. If I like it well enough I go for the FLAC later. I do have spotify at home but only really use it for playlists I find online. Also Google Music is changing to Youtube Music sometime soon. I am not sure how this is going to change the look/functionality.

I wonder how that's going to effect car head units that have Android Audio/Google Music integration which my Civic SI has... is an update to the head unit which is also Anroid based I believe or is it just going to stop working or basically work the same?

This actually kind of has me pissed off. I put my trust into a streaming service, and not from a small start up company that you could expect to potentially fail and disappear, but from major company that you'd expect to be around and offer their service forever (like Microsoft). I pay and put my trust into the service, get comfortable with it, build years of playlists that would be quite brutal and tiresome to manually re-create, just to get a slap in the face with them killing it for some gay ass video app with music in the name? Google music gave me exactly what I wanted from a music service and nothing that I didn't want - and now it's just basically Youtube? SO dumb. So what dictates the sound quality? Google music was 320KB/s mp3 which is just as good as CD to my ears but now what? Questionable and non-consistent audio quality just like random Youtube videos? I noticed in my cars head unit that there was a Spotify icon, how is Spotify these days? I tried it once back when Google Music came out but liked and chose Google music over it but fuck, I don't want to put my trust into a streaming service again just to see it get canned. Imagine if Steam decided to just up and close it's doors on the app/service? Yikes@!
