Well I have been converted. The GBP pair so quick and have so many cool extra features they are now my main buds. I got some replacement eartips: www.amazon.com/dp/B097G8L3HG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1One cool feature is when you talk it turns the noise cancelling off and does the passthrough so you can hear other people. After 10 seconds it goes back to noise canceling. I'm not impressed by the battery life but I got mine used from a pawn shop so that might have something to do with it.

I want to find some good earbuds for working out that can withstand sweat and dirt, and have that sound passthrough. I'd love to play some tunes while I'm biking, but still be able to hear my surroundings when needed. Pretty sure they do make products like that. I've thought about wearing my AKG's out there but they don't look like they can withstand sweat or any other kind of moisture.

Since the AKGs have been gathering dust gonna take them on a trail tonight. I got this cheap little $20 MP3 player just for biking. I think I posted about it earlier in this thread. I prefer to have my phone safely tucked away in my bag, if I crash and the MP3 player goes flying big deal out of a whole $20 boohoo.
Anyway it actually supports bluetooth despite being $20, I put those little tips that keep the AKGs in your ears on and gonna see how it holds up to sweat and such. It was really easy to pair them and they play music just fine. Just a slight hesitation when switching tracks.

Happy to say they worked great on the trail, stayed in my ears just fine. Also sweat didn't mess them up. Waaaay better bass then the earbuds I normally use.

Mucho snake oil in esoteric audio and people keep falling for it over and over chasing the ultimate audio that doesn't exist lol. I bet on blind tests you might even prefer cheaper products...

You are 100% correct. Plenty of stuff that was considered extreme high end in the early to mid 2000s measures like absolute garbage.

I bought some Sony MDR-V6's from Fry's a long time ago for $86 (which I think was a good deal) and I thought the packaging of those was pretty fancy, didn't come with a carrying case though. The cord is very long and is actually kind of a pain.

Well I finally did it. Since I just got a new job with a nice raise I finally decided to stop thinking about it finally get a "Summit Fi" and "End game" DAC: www.amazon.com/RME-Converter-ADI-2-DAC-FS/dp/B081CWQXGDThe RME ADI is an all in one DAC/AMP combo with a built in EQ. Basically ANYTHING you want to do it can do. You can set different EQs for all your different headphones and switch with a button. It will do crossfade, you have multiple filters for the DAC chip and even do NOS if you like. It has a strong headphone amp for its balanced signal. If you buy one of those weird one-off headphones the require insane amount of power you can output balanced to another amp. IEMs are becoming more and more popular and have somewhat replaced full size headphones for many. The RME ADI actually has a separate extreme low noise IEM headphone jack. Also they are constantly revising it and the customer service is top notch, there are new firmware being released all the time. With my current setup I have to rewire everything if I want to listen to my Koss electrostats. Once the RME gets here I won't have to do that anymore I can just use the RCA out.

So back in 2015 I got a used pair of Audeze LCD-2 on ebay for $500. The LCD2 were all the rage for a while and put Audeze on the map. The newer models use a "fazer" which improves clarity but seems to ruin the "house sound" a bit. I was interested in the non-Fazor version and lucked out and a non-Fazer version.
Great headphones. I replaced the pads with the latest pads from Audeze which are thinner and put the driver closer to your ears.
Anyway I went and grabbed them last week and the right speaker wasn't working. Ordered a replacement cable..........still not working.Doh.
I popped off the cover and the wires look attached just one is kinda corroded.
Debating if I want to get it sent in to be fixed I know out of warranty it costs a minimum of $450 plus I wanted the newer headband which is another $300 for the carbon fiber one.
Since so many people loved the original non-Fazer LCD2 they started selling the Audeze LCD2 Classic which is the same non-Fazor old headphone from 2009 but all of the other materials are the latest and greatest and it is much lighter.
I ordered one supposed to be here today:

Ever finally get around to doing something and then you kick yourself for not doing it sooner? When I got into the audio hobby EQ was looked down on but its come back in a big way. No speaker/headphone is perfect so a little EQ helps. Hardware EQ take forever to dial in and if you switch headphones you have to change them up. Equalizer APO is a software solution that effects all of windows not just your music. You can have multiple presets and way more flexibility then hardware EQ. I had been meaning to play with it forever but I was afraid it might hose my audio somehow or be cumbersome to turn off. Installing it was actually a breeze. I downloaded all of the settings as .txt files from the master list: github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq/tree/master/resultsIf you want to turn it off you just click the power button. So much faster then dialing in hardware EQ:

I just started a new job and brought my Sennheiser HD58X to work. They are great but there is a white noise machine right above my desk and I can hear it through them. I haven't had any closed back headphones in years so I decided to pick up a pair. Got these: www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-Headphones-K371/dp/B07WZH7WM9They are cheap so no worries if they get stolen or something. Sound great so far, way better then the shitty $30 department store closed back headphones I used as a kid in the 1990s. Also I am so used to gigantic audiophile headphones they feel positively tiny.

Just paid my invoice, $575 to get my Audeze LCD-2 completely refurbished so they have the latest 2023 materials: www.audeze.com/products/lcd-2Not sure how long they will take to get here but I will be able to do a head to head comparison between the LCD-2 and the LCD-2 Classic. I might rig something up so both are playing music simultaneously and I just have to swap headphones with no pause. Will be fun.

Sennheiser released a new headphone in their 6 series (600,6XX,650, 660S). The 660S2 is specifically made to have better subbass under 100 hz, which is the biggest weakness in the line. Back in the late 1990s/early 2000s when those models were released the high end headphone market was a fraction what it is now and the fact that Sennheisers had bass at all was considered good enough. Now with the rise of other manufacturers are coming out with headphones with crazy subbass particularly planar headphones like Audeze and Hifiman. People are buying them completely unheard for the asking price of $600 and making them go out of stock

So I went on a huge group ride on Friday and my AKG N400 were giving me crap. I got them to work but I had to mess with them forever. Then Sunday I went on a ride alone and they worked right away(ofc when I'm alone lol) but 15 minutes into my ride they disconnected and shut off, so I switched to my old corded AKG earbuds. I'm not sure if the issue is my MP3 player or the AKG N400s. Picked up a pair of these: www.amazon.com/Jabra-Enabled-Wireless-Earbuds-Charging/dp/B07BHF993QThey are specifically made for working out, and aren't too expensive. I don't want to use my Galaxy Bud Pros as my workout earbud in case one goes flying out of my ear. They are too expensive.

So I went on a huge group ride on Friday and my AKG N400 were giving me crap. I don't want to assume, so I'll ask, did you do a reset of them? IIRC that's best done after turning off the bluetooth of any devices nearby that they've been paired with.
Funny enough, just today the "Like new" earbuds I got from Amazon Warehouse arrived today, and my hunch that I might have to do a reset of them turned out to get confirmation as being reasonable. I think whoever originally had them was, like me, only getting sound off of one bud after taking them out of the case, and so immediately returned them. The manual for them (the TOZO T6, 2022 upgraded version) seemed to make a point of describing how to address that, so I guess it's a thing. I won't lie, I was fumbling around a bit with the procedure, but after a couple of minutes I had them working.
I also swapped out the tips to the small size, they included a bunch of sizes, I'd been wearing their mediums. It's funny that they fit and sound a bit better, as I think of my ears as just short of ginormous.
Edit: The smalls were too small. I remembered I had some foam tips in the package of some ear hooked buds from several years ago, and I'm enjoying those now.

I disconnected them and reconnected them. Both the MP3 player and the AKGs are only paired to each other. I did not do a deep factory reset on either I could try that. Luckily all the music on the MP3 player is on a mini-sdcard so I can remove it, reset it, and put it back in. Also ear tips are a nightmare. It takes forever for me to find tips I like especially since my ear canals are different sizes.

I had an issue with those N400's a while back where they were way too quiet, but I think that was a different type of issue. Had to go into my phone and do some kind of network reset, after that I had to re-pair the earbuds and they worked fine after that.

So according to the community the new "goto" dirt cheap earbud is from Final Audio. They actually make one of the most expensive headphones in the world and are highly respected. I picked these up in case I was having any bluetooth issues on a ride and didn't feel like dealing with them anymore: www.amazon.com/dp/B07RGXHYBW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsGot them into today at work and been testing them on my phone and holy crap you can't believe they are only $25 with the right tips and a seal. The one downside is there are no markings for right or left. The earbuds have different colors under the tip to keep track of right vs left. Looks like Final Audio has replaced Tin Audio as my goto cheap earbud.

So my AKG N400s have been fine for recording all of those bike rides I have been posting to the biking thread. They have only disconnected once. I don't know if it is the AKGs fault or the MP3 players fault as its a $20 MP3 player. Today my spare Jabra Active 65t got in. They are supposedly the best bang for the buck bluetooth earbuds for exercise. I didn't bring my MP3 player to work so I will have to set them up later for a test ride. They are discontinued but I got a brand new pair in the box not a refurb: www.jabra.com/refurbished-products/bluetooth-headsets/jabra-elite-65t##100-99000000-NRC

Oh yeah my N400s disconnected when I was going 30+ mph in the video I recorded. Understandable cheap earbuds and an mp3 player have trouble maintaining a connection at that speed.

I was really close to going to CanJam in NYC, would have been my first time to NYC and my first CanJam. I also have a friend who lives 30 minutes from NYC. I didn't go because I haven't been at my new job long enough to get PTO. So I would have had to to go to work Friday. Then drive to NYC, get there at like 11pm-midnight and crash out. Then go to CanJam and soon as it ended Sunday drive back home and be to work Monday morning. Bleh. When I go to NYC for the first time I want to take a day or two PTO so I can relax and enjoy myself.
Still kinda kicking myself for not going seeing this
