OMG, I did NOT see that coming... Vader's force-ghost appeared and wanked off Kylo Ren as he killed Princess Leia! Gripping stuff!

Even though I don't believe for a second you actually already saw it and that is an actual spoiler and not some dumb joke, I'm still not clicking it. I'd originally planned to go this afternoon but I just couldn't see myself getting up earlier than usual and facing traffic, not with my vacation starting and being able to go anytime I want after the weekend, so now it'll be the late showing either sunday or monday, or maybe an afternoon show monday since the kids still should be in school doing exams...

Just got back from seeing it, I think it's a good followup to Episode VII. Just my opinion, not really anything revealing about the story or characters particularly but still a spoiler none the less. Read at your own risk. {CLICK FOR SPOILER} To be completely honest, I didn't find it to be as good or refreshing as VII and it also felt like there were wasted opportunities with the story and (especially) characters There's quite a few subplots in the movie, but one in particular just felt forced and unnecessary and perhaps the whole movie would've been better without it.
Then again Ep VII isn't perfect either and I remember having certain feelings about certain things the first time I saw it. I'll probably go see TLJ again though. Still think Rogue One is the best of the new Star Wars movies so far.

This morning I found out they had exactly 1 good seat in the middle dead center left IMAX 3D so I got in an 11:30 am showing. First the 3D isn't worth it in this movie and is clearly tacked on. Now spoilers for the story: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}It was entertaining but wasted potential.
Snoke is supposed to be this epic force badass and he was killed so easily. Yawn.
The writers ALMOST went to cool places when Kylo said "Its time to let old things die" He was 100% correct. If Rey joined him the story could have gone in a really cool new direction.
Instead the 3rd movie we get to look forward to seeing the generic showdown between Rey and Kylo.
Also the ship jumping to light speed into the Imperial Armada was IMO the best part of the movie.

WARNING BIG spoilers (seriously): {CLICK FOR SPOILER} I think my favorite part was when Rey and Kylo Ren are in Snoke's throne room and then the fighting that ensues.
I agree that Snoke was killed off far too easily, but that is the way of a true Sith, they tend to kill their masters to seize power if given the opportunity.
Still, would've been cool to see him fighting with a lightsaber.
Wasn't expecting the part with Yoda's force ghost, thought he looked kind of weird* but I still enjoyed that part, especially his dialogue with Luke. *edit*Turns out they used puppetry for Yoda to make him appear more like he did in TESB and ROTJ, so that's why he looked weird to me.
Seeing Luke in his old X-Wing* would've been awesome. When they showed it submerged in the sea I was hoping they'd do like Empire Strikes back, but this time Luke lifting it out. Sadly that didn't happen. *edit*Turns out in the movie his X-Wing is destroyed, read about it somewhere. Didn't realize it was destroyed when I first saw it.
I was stoked about seeing A-Wings in the trailer (they were always my favorite) but they were barely there, you had to look very close. Also that new character Tallie Lintra (in the blue/white A-Wing) was barely around, same with Laura Dern with purple hair.
They even killed off Admiral Ackbar!
I agree, the part where the ship goes into hyperdrive into the star destroyer was awesome.
Otherwise agree there's too much wasted potential. I felt the same way as I did when I first saw the prequel movies, like it just could've been better. Still, I didn't hate TLJ nor did I really hate the prequels.

Just saw it for a second time today, I don't know what it was but I enjoyed it a lot more on the second viewing. Same thing happened with TFA.

There's a few things I agree with, critic's wise: the one that did the hyperjump should've been a familiar character, not this new one we didn't have any connection to, so either Leia (which would've made a lot of sense but then of course they didn't know she would die in real life) or at the very least Admiral Ackbar. Now he just dies in the bridge explosion, which is a bit unceremonious. He should've been like 'I've been with the rebellion from the start, I'll go out with a bang. Smile motherfuckers, It's a trap!'
The code breaker with the flower should have been Lando (which I heard it would have been but Billy Dee Williams apparently couldn't pull off playing a suave gentleman anymore)

I agree there, Admiral Holdo was unfamiliar and I had a difficulty feeling anything for that character (first time I saw it, I thought they said Admiral Hodor). I was also pissed about how they killed off Ackbar, he deserved more. The story was definitely about the First Order getting revenge, so it was similar to The Empire Strikes Back in that regard. The next one will probably have a lot more action.

Finally saw it the other day after picking up the blurey... I thought it was actually pretty good - they ditched that stupid Kylo Ren mask, Luke got to be a badass and it was nice to see Eddie Hitler on the bridge!

Wait what??? I've seen that movie twice in the theatre and I didn't even notice him. 3D Bluray is on the way, hopefully arrives before the weekend so I can rectify that asap.

Wait what??? I've seen that movie twice in the theatre and I didn't even notice him. I thought it was just somebody who looked like him at first but then there were a few more shots that confirmed... You've probably seen it again by now but if not he's the guy that's always standing around with Hux.

I watched it twice back-to-back (commentary on the 2nd time) - the only things I didn't really like were Leia's "Mary Poppins" routine and the fact it wasn't her or Ackbar who pulled the jump-takedown... Obviously they didn't know Carrie was going to peg it but old fish face should have seen a better send off.
Also - where the fuck is Lando?

IIRC they were trying to bring back Billy Dee Williams but it didn't work out.

It wasn't terrible, but it could have been so much better. The hyperspace jump take down, or whatever it's called, is probably the coolest scene in the movie. However, the idea was thought up decades ago - in STNG: The Best of Both Worlds Part 2. Riker was about to pull the same move to take down the Borg cube. memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/The_Best_of_Both_Worlds,_Part_II_(episode) Of course, just a moments before Riker gave the command, Data figured out a way to hack the Borg collective and save everybody. Even though it some cool ideas, it didn't fully take advantage of those ideas and this episode of STNG was kind of a let down too.

I saw Lawson walking down the street in Soho about four years ago as I was coming out of a recordshop called "Sounds of the Universe"... I was too starstruck to approach him. He had a nice jacket.

That's cool. He wasn't one of the most main characters in Star Wars, but it still wouldn't have been the same Star Wars without him.

The Last Jedi being a massive letdown is why Solo tanked and Star Wars is losing money... Disney does PR campaign to pin the blame on toxic fans.

I was always wondering who would kill Star Wars, never thought it would be Rian Johnson.

I was always wondering who would kill Star Wars, never thought it would be Rian Johnson. I get what he was trying to do, make a movie that subverts expectations. If so he should have gone all the way and had Rey join Kylo. If you want to see something that turns Star Wars on its head try KOTOR2, same basic idea but executed very well.

Also, they could've kept Luke alive for the next movie, where he would've battled against Rey & Kylo. That way the force balance still remains intact (since Luke is so powerful). This would've pleased the fans much more than the story they went with.

I was always wondering who would kill Star Wars, never thought it would be Rian Johnson. Mark Hamill knew it wasn't very good after reading the script. I think he's on record in interview/s, stating that he cautioned the director during filming. Probably a risky move career-wise. But I applaud him for it, because his statements show that he cares about his fans.

I should probably be following Mark Hamill on Twitter, he's always posting interesting stuff. Also he's one of the most underrated actors of all time, that voice he does for The Joker is amazing. Also the fact that he's more stoked for Squadron 42 than the new Star Wars movies really says something.
I really tried to like TLJ but the more I watch it, the more I realize that it really is the worst Star Wars movie yet (maybe excluding the Holiday Special), I saw that they tried to do like Empire Strikes Back by subverting what people were expecting, but ESB did it right. TLJ tried subverting at every turn just for shock value, just was not the same.
That whole part where Finn and that girl (Rose) go to that planet full of rich jerks and alien horses was a really unnecessary subplot that deviates from the rest of the movie just to (weakly) build up some relationship between Finn and Rose.
It was like all those involved in the production of this movie had never even seen a Star Wars movie.

I was just thinking the same thing and how it makes me regret ever having criticized the prequels. Yeah, they weren't the greatest movies (ruined by bad CGI, Jar-Jar Binks, and, to some extent, Hayden Christensen's stiff acting). But the stories were at least Star Wars. Also, in TLJ, they insulted the audiences' intelligence by throwing basic primary school science out the window. The bomber run with gravity in outer space... Princess Leia being sucked into the (near) vacuum of space and waking up after some time, then floating through space like she's Mother Mary, etc. Some cheese is to be expected in Star Wars. But the cheese was just too rotten in TLJ.

I think my favorite part was when Yoda shows up as a force ghost to talk to Luke and encourage him, that was the most Star Wars-y scene in the entire movie. With the movie being called "The Last Jedi" you think it would be all about Luke, but it really wasn't.
Also, I still like Episode VII even though it's an exact re-telling of A New Hope. The newly introduced characters were great and the scenes with the X-Wings were great, Han Solo being there really added to it too. JJ Abrams knew how to make a Star Wars movie, and I think it's good that he's returning to direct Episode IX.
Rogue One is definitely my favorite of the new Star Wars movies though, I was reading somewhere that George Lucas had some kind of minimal creative input too. Something about he showed up on set, and anything he mentioned liking on the set made it into the movie.
