Triple Cs, get your gear out there!
I have:
Original owner --
Dreamcast with two controllers and a light gun. SNES with various equipment. Gamecube with various equipment. NeoGeo Gold -- all the existing game packs, not quite classic but good enough. N64 with various equipment GBA - afterburner mod added....I remember I was so proud of setting this up myself. First Gen PSP Original DS
Purchases through the years -- Genesis, Sega CD, 32x, to replace the monstrosity that I lost when my house flooded. NES with some type of hack chip, light gun, controllers. TurboGrafx 16, many games including Bonk, Air Bonk, Military Madness

If I had everything I've sold I would have a pretty nice collection. Ah well.
The only thing of note I have anymore is a complete collection of PS1 Final Fantasy games with the Brady strat guides. All black label originals, in fact my FF7 is the error print. FF Tactics, Origins, Anthology, Chronicles, 7, 8, 9. Last I checked it was worth roughly 200 bucks, 7 was worth 50+ alone.
I was looking for someone worthy to give it to. I tried to message Slacker to see if Gibb was still collecting.... yeah, fat ignored LOL.

Classics: NES, Genesis (no games though, since my ferengi brother sold them all on Ebay), SNES, Sega CD, 3DO, PS1, PS2 Newer (not considered classics, at least not in the classic sense) : PS3, PS4, SNES mini/classic, New 3DS XL SNES mini and 3DS XL were recent purchases, and I have not yet played. I ordered a charger for the 3DS XL, since the big N greedily doesn't include one with the unit. However, 3rd party chargers can be found at a third of the price (at $5) compared to the official Nintendo charger ($15), so not a big loss by choosing 3rd party accessories. www.amazon.com/Tomee-Adapter-New-2DS-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B008MIGV1E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1508178123&sr=8-3&keywords=3ds+chargerAnd a good 128GB microSD card at a decent price (to replace the puny 4GB that comes with the 3DS). www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1Officially, the 3DS only supports up to 32GB SD cards, but it can be haxored to work with larger ones. www.guidelive.com/video-games/2015/02/16/how-to-transfer-3ds-sd-card-data-and-use-high-capacity-bigger-than-32gb-microsd-cards-on-the-new-nintendo-3ds-xl

The mod was kind of easy (probably because I already learned how to do soldering in middle school - i.e. metal shop). I knew the mod was successful, because when powering on the console it skipped the PS boot/logo (just as it was supposed to). But then I felt guilty about the idea of pirating PS1 games, so I didn't go through with it. Also, the mod chip makes it region-free, so my PS1 can play Japanese imported games. The 3DS mod I mentioned in my last post doesn't appear to involve hacking the 3DS hardware in any way (only reformatting the new micoSD card, then backing up files from the 3DS included microSD and moving them to the new microSD), so this mod should be safe & easy.

Naw. I just use emulators. It's kind of a gray area, isn't it, when the games aren't being sold anymore (abandonware?). I doubt they'd take any legal action against people playing games that are no longer generating profit. I'm not a lawyer, but I did take Business Law in college... It'd be a civil case, if such a thing went to court. The burden would be on the prosecutor to prove financial damages/losses were incurred by his/her client, before the defendant could be found guilty. But prosecutors are smart enough to know that (that there's no case, since there aren't monetary damages incurred by such a potential client), so they'd never take it to court in the first place. Although, a few of these games are still being sold (such as ChronoTrigger, which is sold as a digital download on the Playstation store). Something to keep in mind, just to be on the safe side (either don't download it or take precautions).

I modded my original Xbox and turned it into a multimedia station after the CD Rom konked out on me. It was the easiest way to back up my saved games and put them on the new Xbox that I bought. I've really enjoyed just tinkering with systems, at least when I was younger. These days I don't really have time for it. I'd probably be jailbreaking phones and whatnot, but just don't have the heart in it any more. I feel like an old man now.

I remember Msan calling Slacker out point blank (directly to Slacker) for not addressing our concerns, when the old site kept going down and up (up just briefly, before it went down again for long periods). I still admire Msan for doing that and trying to keep our group together. I wasn't around the old SC when you were banned, so I wasn't there to witness the (probable) drama that led up to it. Guessing that occurred when I went back to college, and I was very busy with work and study.

Hehe. Slacker never bothered me like the rest of you trolls SCMB in its heyday was the closest I've felt to online community so I figured it was a worthy gift. Anyway... If I had everything (in order of purchase) Sega Master System with damn near every accessory (yes 3D glasses) and roughly 30 games Sega Genesis with Master System adapter and 5 Genesis games SNES my first true console love with 15ish games. NES cause Daddy had to play OG Metroid and Zelda. N64 with 4 game's PS1 my 2nd love. Had tons o' games, FF7 hooked me hard playing at a friend's house. N64 rebought cause Zelda OOT finally dropped and I wasn't about to miss it. Around this time I went full bore PC gamer and found SCMB as a result... NGC basically for Metroid Prime which was one of the greatest games I've played. Twilight Princess was really good too. PS2. Played FFX. That was it. At kids Grandma's. Wii. Was fun, still owned. At kids other Grandma's. PS3 Still owned. Didn't buy a single game... it plays BluRays in the secondary room. Xbox 360 got for free. Still owned. Daughter loves dancing games on Kinect. WiiU. Still owned. Great deck that no one bought but me. Xbox One got for CHEAP basically to play Destiny in advance of 2 and my kid wanted to play Minecraft and Halo with his friends. Still owned. Nintendo Switch which is full of potential if they would quit fucking with these mini consoles and release the fucking emulators! O.M.G... Now my kid is playing PC and I'll probably never buy a non Nintendo console again. If I even buy Nintendo they always seem to find a way to fall on their face. The last great thing they did was SNES with a possible argument for Wii.

Switch looks like it's doing better than WiiU, when you compare 3rd party support for each console.
Their portable consoles always seem to dominant. There's been no break for the competition, well, except smart phones perhaps (since everybody needs a phone these days, people are gonna have phones regardless). Smart phones reliance on touch-screen controls hold it back though, and keep the portable gaming market niche open for Nintendo.

if they would quit fucking with these mini consoles and release the fucking emulators! O.M.G... They won't, at least not as long as the fad of owning retro consoles remains strong. They're too proud of being in the hardware business and want to drive up sales of their hardware as much as possible, even if it takes selling classic mini consoles to help them achieve that goal. I read that Nintendo recently filed some patents on N64 and Gameboy, which likely means... well, you know.

Not buying the theory that their classic consoles eat into sales of their other consoles (Switch or 3DS), if that's what you're alluding to.
For starters, the price of these mini consoles isn't much more than a single, new AAA game for a regular console. Second, it's a way of getting Nintendo (and their IPs/characters) into peoples' minds and wanting more things Nintendo. imo, it seems to be an effective marketing gimmick to increase overall sales and probably even contributing to Switch sales being better than WiiU sales were (back when it was their primary console).

Of course, he wasn't obligated to keep "giving" and we didn't expect him to. A few of us (myself included) offered our time (we're IT nerds) and money to keep the old site going. But the offers were met with silence. Sometimes, it's not what you do, but what you don't do (inaction) that yields negative results (like a group of long-time friends being disbanded). But it's water under the bridge now and ppl have moved on & likely forged new friendships.

Nope not my point. They are protecting their mini console sales by NOT releasing the emulated software on Switch. Pisses me off, especially in light of the fact they only have 2 (3 in a couple weeks) AAA titles despite months of release. And one of those is a repackage! The least they could do is release some AAA titles from yesteryear. They are crapping on the Switch early adopters. I tell you now, if they release an updated Switch before they roll out the emulation that could be the final straw for me. I don't NEED to play their games, I can skip the latest Nintendo console and be perfectly content.

I bought the Wii, tried my best to ignore the shovelware and then jumped to Wii U hoping they'd do something groundbreaking with the tablet....no such luck. After a year of Wii U, I pretty much said Fuck Nintendo. I didn't feel like they had the consumer's interests in place. I keep hearing good things about the Switch, and maybe half a year or so I'm probably going to grab it. Mostly because my girlfriend and her daughter enjoy the party games and I like to play games with them.

The good news is that after I was banned, I was motivated to find better content and communities and got to enjoy Slashdot, Digg, OffTopic, and Reddit when they were all starting to become great communities. The end of digg reminded me quite a bit of 3dfx's site implosion.

They are like a greedy dog holding their bones, and you can't really do that when your consumers are much smarter than they are. I'll use an emulator any day of the week over the nonsense they are doing with customer choice. If their entire library was available to buy or pay a monthly fee, I'd be all over it. But since they are being idiots with how they are managing their legacy games, they can eat a dick. I feel no ill will downloading games that I paid full price for back during the original releases....I also don't feel bad playing games that I simply can't buy anywhere, and they did that to themselves.

I've learned that lesson myself a while ago. Of course, that's not just with Nintendo either. It could happen with any console, if you buy it too soon after its release. It's best to just go where the games (you want to play) are. That's why I chose PS4 and, just recently, 3DS (waited a few years for these consoles to mature and build a solid library of exclusives). Many of Sony's 1st party games are actually very good, if you can get over the (Microsoft and/or Nintendo) fanboi angst that they currently hold the crown in the console market. But if one insists on being an early adopter, I could see buying a Switch over the Xbox, because at least Nintendo has Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc. With Xbox, you have Halo and Forza (yawn).

Fairly sure that Gibbs and Slacker were originally from Michigan, because I recall Gibb mentioning living there near his parents for a time. Personally, I was born and raised there (suburbs of Dallas). But you're still right though, it seems they wanted like-minded folks on their site and you could be put down for expressing different viewpoints.

Dallas is like most other large cities in the country, where you have the rich and the poor, and people immigrating from all over the world (in Frisco, a Dallas suburb, it seems about half the people are from India... brought over by companies helping them obtain work visas). Also, many rich snobs living there who literally think less of poorer people. The disparity between rich & poor is probably more extreme than most cities in the country though, due to its population size & growth. www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2017-05-25/fastest-growing-us-cities-are-in-south-4-of-top-5-in-texasI no longer live there... moved to TN a little while ago.

I've still got:
Turbografx 16 Nintendo 64 Gamecube Xbox
Also had a PS2 but sold it a while back. There used to be this awesome place nearby that specialized in retro gaming, but then Gamestop bought them out and they became just another Gamestop.

The connectors on the controller port is easy to break if you're not careful. Even someone tripping over the cord could very easily break it.
It had some decent games, there's one game for it called Silent Debuggers, a corridor shooter that came out a year before Wolfenstein 3D. It wasn't great but pretty cool for the time, movement was limited.

I used to want a Turbografx-16 pretty badly (too young & unemployed though). It was an interesting console, with a library of games (and graphical style) that looked quite different than games on competing consoles (at least, that's what i thought at the time when seeing the commercials). It had two 8-bit processors running in parallel. Also, it was the first system with a CD-ROM add-on. www.giantbomb.com/turbografx-cd/3045-53/

Never played a turbografix console but I did enjoy the games at arcade. Strider specifically comes to mind. Man. That was the tail end of arcades, they were pretty well gone already except for the random Street Fighter box at the pizza joint. Miss those days.
