TG-16 was up there with my SNES as a favorite console. Game selection was limited, but the games were unique and fun to play. Air Zonk and all the other Bonk adventure games were amazing platformers/shooters. Military Madness did hex strategy better than any game for years. R-type was better on this console. And who could forget freaking Splatterhouse? I love my console!

btw, avoid this game "Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter (SNES Compatible) - Super NES" (from the above newegg.com link). I've watched a gameplay video of it on youtube and it looks terrible. Graphically, it looks more like a GBA game (and not a very good one) than SNES game.

Also, the "Saber Rider..." game is on kickstarter. Pledges are at $96,591 (exceeding their $75,000 goal). Of course, it remains to be seen if the game will be any good. The few screenshots they put up so far look decent (at least it looks like a 16-bit game).

I think my brain is getting tired and I'm scrambling Neo-Geo into TG. I don't feel like sorting out exact the truth but I remember an arcade company toying with a console (which I now think was Neo Geo) and I remember Strider being released on TG (and apparently everything else).

imo, Neo Geo was king of the 16-bit console era, as far as having arcade (practically exact arcade replica) games and the best hardware (two Genesis/Megadrive 16-bit processors running in parallel). A phenomenal system for its time. Though, perhaps a bit obscure (less talked about), due to its high cost & relatively few people owning one.

It was also way overpowered for a home console at the time, allowing people (who could afford one) to bring the arcade experience into their homes.

I couldn't afford one either, but it was still a great console (as far as technical/specs and games).

I was going to concede that maybe they were a failure from a business perspective, but I looked up the wiki page just to confirm. It says that SNK/Neo Geo was profitable through the mid-90's, so even that (the argument that they failed from a money-making standpoint) gets tossed aside. I guess their games were just that good.

I played some of their games in the arcade and on home console (actually own "Samurai Showdown" for my 3DO), and had a blast playing them.

Confirmed. The hardware of Neo Geo was basically the same as you would've gotten in their arcade machines at the time.

Neo Geo's graphics and sound are largely superior to other contemporary home consoles, arcades, and even computers such as the Sharp X68000. The MVS was one of the most powerful arcade units at the time. Furthermore, since the AES was identical to its arcade counterpart, the MVS, arcade titles released for the home market are perfect translations.

yeah sure, it was overpriced (for the average consumer). But for the lucky people who could afford Neo Geo's, they were getting consoles with arcade-level processing power (for that time period.. and, in a more portable form-factor) in their living rooms. SCMB in its heyday was the closest I've felt to online community so I figured it was a worthy gift.

Anyway... If I had everything (in order of purchase)

Sega Master System with damn near every accessory (yes 3D glasses) and roughly 30 games
Sega Genesis with Master System adapter and 5 Genesis games
SNES my first true console love with 15ish games.
NES cause Daddy had to play OG Metroid and Zelda.
N64 with 4 game's
PS1 my 2nd love. Had tons o' games, FF7 hooked me hard playing at a friend's house.
N64 rebought cause Zelda OOT finally dropped and I wasn't about to miss it.

Around this time I went full bore PC gamer and found SCMB as a result...

NGC basically for Metroid Prime which was one of the greatest games I've played. Twilight Princess was really good too.
PS2. Played FFX. That was it. At kids Grandma's.
Wii. Was fun, still owned. At kids other Grandma's.
PS3 Still owned. Didn't buy a single game... it plays BluRays in the secondary room.
Xbox 360 got for free. Still owned. Daughter loves dancing games on Kinect.
WiiU. Still owned. Great deck that no one bought but me.
Xbox One got for CHEAP basically to play Destiny in advance of 2 and my kid wanted to play Minecraft and Halo with his friends. Still owned.
Nintendo Switch which is full of potential if they would quit fucking with these mini consoles and release the fucking emulators! O.M.G...

Now my kid is playing PC and I'll probably never buy a non Nintendo console again. If I even buy Nintendo they always seem to find a way to fall on their face. The last great thing they did was SNES with a possible argument for Wii.

Yeah, the PS1 has an outstanding library of games (many of which are 2d/sprite-based and the graphics have aged very well, compared to the primitive 3D games of that time). From an objective pov (temporarily discard nostalgia and fanboi blinders), I'm fairly certain that the PS1 has the best library of games of any console to date.

However, SNES is still my favorite console, perhaps out of nostalgia and my being more excited about gaming during its run.

I never would've guessed how much Sega experimented with (versions of) the console in Japan, before releasing it in western markets.
