www.anandtech.com/show/21542/end-of-the-road-an-anandtech-farewellI remember at some point in the mid-2000s being disgusted by HardOCP's whole tone and vibe, and their ridiculous practice of benchmarking different GPUs at different resolutions and such. So I stopped reading them completely and switched to Anandtech as my main tech news site. Checked their reviews like 6 months ago but I never got around to registering on their forums I don't think. Not sure what the "main" HW review site would be now. Linus Tech Tips?

Can't recall the last time I visited that site, it used to be that it was one of the top results on Google searches but I guess that changed at some point.
Sad news for sure.

It's probably been at least 15 years since I visited their site. idk 100%, but I think it's likely Youtube tech channels (like "Linus Tech Tips" and many others) that killed (or is killing) tech websites.

Makes me think of motherboards.org, the guy who founded it (Elric Phares) somehow lost it through some bad corporate dealings and was ousted from his own company. It ended up backfiring on them though, when news hit that Elric was no longer the one in charge, most everyone unsubbed and went to his new channel called Tech of Tomorrow.
Motherboards.org is probably just about completely forgotten, the channel on youtube hasn't even uploaded a new video in a decade.

I remember Motherboards.org but I don't think I visited there once after like 2002/2003. So many different websites.
I looked up Tech of Tomorrow and looks like the dude who runs it isn't doing very well:
Looks like his foot was infected and he didn't notice, and also he got pancreatitis. He might be diabetic/pre-diabetic or a heavy drinker. Drinking can cause pancreatitis and getting shitfaced in your 40s is much harder to sleep off then in your 20s.
Don't know the dude at all so no idea if he is an alcoholic but that would track with whats happening to him.

Had been a while since I looked at the channel but just noticed it's been 8 months since he last uploaded a new video, and that ^ was the most recent one. I do remember hearing about him having health issues in the past and it did sound like diabetes, also there was a rumor that he got addicted to heroin due to some kind of pain he was in but now can't find anything about it.
