To make room for pinball. IDK why all of a sudden I have this addiction to pinball. Doesn't make sense because I never really cared for them when I was a kid and couldn't tell you the name of one pinball that I played during the 80s and 90s. But they take up a ton of space and generally cost between $8k-$12k per game. On my hit list are...
Metallica by Stern
AC/DC by Stern
Ghostbusters by Stern
Cirqus Voltaire by Bally
Iron Maiden by Stern
The only one of those five games that you can buy brand new right now is Iron Maiden and the prices of the used ones actually sell for much more than they did brand new (limited production and in demand). For example, a Metallica Pro when it came out was around $4600 (2013'ish) but sells for around $8k now. A limited edition I've seen up to $30k! So to buy all of those games above I'm looking at spending an absolute minimum of $47,000 getting the lower pro models....that's some hardcore gaming cost LOL. Might have to add in another $1600 for a motorized hand truck that can climb stairs with them to make moving them easier. Video game uprights that I currently have don't cost anywhere near the level of pinball, I think my most valuable arcade game is Budweiser Tapper at around $4500 current market value (at least I would double what I paid for it). Common and very massed produced games like Centipede, Asteroids, and Missile Command aren't worth that much and are a dime a dozen, basically (maybe average around $1k each on the private market, retail dealers would obviously be marked up by about $700 a piece but most people buy from private collections for cheaper) R-Type might be a $2k game now, it's rare and nearly impossible to find in great condition like mine. R-Type II is an interesting one. R-Type has a very niche following and I only know of one other R-Type II cabinet in the USA I think at Galloping Ghost arcade and I have about $3400 total into mine, fully restored. Dunno what I could get for it...would be interesting to throw it on ebay to see what it would auction for. IDK about Tapper either, it is a very in demand game and hard to find, might actually have to hold onto that one (its also a gorgeous cabinet, a piece of art) and my personal grail R-Type but I guess the rest could go to make space for the pinball tables.
