Got the new Tomb Raider. Played for about 20 minutes and wasn't into it. Thinking of refunding, lol. Something doesn't look right about it....seems to lack color and I don't like how it starts in a crowded town or whatever with a partner. I always like the solo exploration and atmosphere of the older Tomb Raiders. It does seem to run good and my controller works despite some major complaining on the Steam forums where controllers aren't working and people having shoddy performance with high spec systems...

I remember enjoying the Tomb Raider from 2013, was very good. Haven't played any of the newer ones yet.
Dishonored 2 is pretty good.
Also Prey is awesome, was probably my favorite game from last year. It's like System Shock and Bioshock.

Probably a PC port. Yeah, when a game is first developed for consoles (graphics at 30 fps and low image quality), it's quite often rubbish on PC... the development of the PC version is treated as an afterthought and the result is a mediocre game.

Sad part is, Horizon Zero Dawn on the PS4 Pro looks absolutely amazing on a console in comparison to the new Tomb Raider on the PC:
Tomb Raider PC:
Horizon Zero Dawn PS4 Pro:
Sad when a $400 console can outdo a graphics card that cost almost 1k on it's own not even counting mobo, cpu, hard drives, mouse and keyboard, etc. But that's really the fault of the game, not the hardware. I'm just giving an example that a console game doesn't equal rubbish anymore as shown above with how great Zero Dawn looks. If anything, console games are looking better than PC games right now.

Likely, in this comparison, it's not the hardware, it's the talent. Wiz programmers can do more with less.

That Tomb Raider doesn't look nearly as good as the last one (which I bought for PS4). Forgot the name of it, as I didn't really get into it either. It played kind of like a Tell-tale game, more of an interactive movie than a true game. Not necessary bad a thing, but definitely a matter of personal preference (many ppl love those type of games, that are mostly about the story and less about the gameplay).

Nier Automata keeps being thrown around as one of the best games ever made, just went on sale. I picked it up.
It is a PC port by a japanese dev(gag) but luckily the community has put together some amazing stuff you can find on PCgamingwiki that fixes its most glaring flaws.
I know very little about it to avoid spoilers but it looks like silly weeb crap. Apparently you play a super robot solider so it only makes sense your character looks like a waifu prostitute. Ick.
Been a while since I dug into something new in the single player realm

Lately I've been playing South Park: Fractured but Whole pretty solid, it's entertaining. It's made me laugh quite a few times too, I think my favorite part so far was the boss fight with Randy.
The combat system is similar to Stick of Truth but now there's a grid you move around on and with most characters, you can only attack what's in front of or behind you. Some characters have moves/spells that can reach in the other directions though. The combat also has just a bit more variety compared to the first game.

I haven't really emulated too many PS2 games in my life. I decided since Halloween is coming up I was going to run through Silent Hill 4 again this time on PS2 since the PC version is good but missing some content.
Got it up and running and it sounds good but I decided to give myself an infinite ammo cheat so I can just run through the story.
Holy. Fuck. PS2 emulators have the most asinine obtuse cheat solution I have ever seen. I have been fixing obscure computer shit for 2 decades now. I have helped a developer at work fix bugs but finding an obscure Japanese website, running it through google translate and following broken english instructions and just barely getting it to work. I have had to hex edit DLL files and other nonsense.
However I had to throw up my hands and give up when it comes to enabling cheats in Silent Hill 4 on a PS2 emulator. I spent several hours following tutorials and youtube videos and it still doesn't work. I had to give up. To quote someone on one of the youtube tutorial videos "WHY THE FUCK IS THIS SO COMPLICATED?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

I got Project Warlock:
It really takes me back to playing Hexen and such on my first PC in 1996. Solid game with a bunch of old school graphics filters and such.
If you do pick it up I do recommend one thing, at level 5 you get your first perk. There is a perk called Scholar or something like that which gives you a random stat point every time you level. I missed it so I didn't get it till level 10. If you pick it up early it will make your character a lot tougher.

Couldn't figure out what to stream and it has been 10+ years since I played it so I installed System Shock 2 with this mod list: www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0Looks pretty decent. Game has held up well. I ended up playing it for hours today and took a break right after the big reveal. Its still crazy how the source was leaked. People had been asking for years to get the source and Eidos has never given it up. Then some dude orders a Dreamcast dev kit off of Ebay and it came with some CDs, one of which had the source for Thief 2, System Shock 2, and some unreleased game with the same engine. Some shadowy group of people goes to work on the source and releases it through some obscure forum. Sounds like a sure fire way to get malware but nope, 100% legit.

I finally tried Deceit and its a ton of fun. I have only a couple hours on it but I hear the larger community is extremely toxic, luckily I was playing with 5 friends not randos so it wasn't an issue. Completely free so not a lot to lose if you hate it store.steampowered.com/app/466240/Deceit/

But as I understand it, multi-player is all the rage and single-player is for old-school lamers like me.

^Prey was my favorite game of 2017. Yeah its very System Shock. The first door code in the game is the same as the first door code in System Shock. Also Looking Glass as a reference to Looking Glass studios. Sadly I don't think that graphics mod I installed likes my system. I am getting some weird visual artifacts in the menus. Game still looks great I just doubt those graphics glitches are supposed to be there.

I remember there being a safe that had a sticky note on the side of it with 2 chemical elements written on it, their atomic numbers together were respectively the code for the safe. I had missed how they used to throw smart things like that into videogames, was nice to see.
Never did mess with any mods for the game, the screenshots of that one look great though. I do know sometimes having certain settings on while using certain graphics mods can cause problems, there might also be some changes required in a config file somewhere.

I did some digging and that mod is dead. The author has not updated it in over a year. At some point patches to the game broke it. It can potentially be fixed if you dig into the .ini but I am just going to uninstall it.

Ugh. So I uninstalled that mod and verified my game cache and for some reason my savegames won't load. Like I didn't touch the save folder, they are all there, Prey just doesn't see them. Not a big deal. I was only like an hour into the game. Just annoying having to start over.

That's annoying, something like that happened to me with Skyrim once.
I will say this, sometimes you have to choose to do things kind of wisely, like if you craft some alien power mod instead of some ammo and then don't have enough Psi (energy) to use said alien power, the game can become pretty difficult especially on higher difficulties. I've had to run through some very difficult situations to avoid dying, even then I barely made it with very low health. Then when I finally got through that, there's another danger that I had to find a way past, either trying smartly to neutralize the threat or sneak by it somehow.

I'm still very early into it and I don't really get the game yet but since it has stealth elements and its made by the Dishonored people I assume if you put a ton of points into stealth it will be extremely OP. I have already put some points giving a 200% damage bonus.

SOMA is $6 on gog right now. Great little horror game with a really good story. There is a mode where the monsters don't attack you and honestly it doesn't take much away from the game at all and lets you kind of soak it in www.gog.com/game/soma

And IIRC I dialed down or turned off the disorienting effect, which is adjustable. It had me worried I might get motion sickness. And head bobbing.
The game is clever but it's best played when you're relaxed, and willing to invest the time to immerse yourself in the experience. If you're feeling impatient then the game can feel as if it's dragging in spots.

For Prey I'm doing a stealth/guns/tech build I guess and doing minimal psi powers. Psi looks cool but I'm curious how far I can make it without relying on psi powers.

For Prey I'm doing a stealth/guns/tech build I guess and doing minimal psi powers. Psi looks cool but I'm curious how far I can make it without relying on psi powers. There are actually achievements for not ever obtaining any alien and/or human powers, I was doing my last playthrough only using guns. There's also a tradeoff, not crafting any powers means you can break down neuromods and psi hypo's for more materials to craft ammo and gun upgrades. I remember some of those powers being pretty awesome though, it also adds to the gameplay but it's still fun to play just going guns blazing. You do have to do a lot more searching for codes and passwords though, and you can't repair things or upgrade weapons past level 1. *edit* There's also some pretty talented voices in Prey, most notably Walton Goggins and Benedict Wong (who have both been in Marvel movies now).
