CUK what a name. I looked them up, I think it stands for Computer Upgrade King.
*edit* I'm seriously thinking about just buying the Lenovo Legion 7. It costs more but the specs look great. Has a 16" screen that does 2560x1600, 165hz but that's just fine for me. Gonna see if I might know anyone who can get it cheaper. I might even just finance it.

Rumor is (in YT videos), the industries insiders are saying that the chip/gpu shortages should improve late 2022/early 2023. I don't know if I believe it though. I'm leaning towards these shortages being the new normal and here to stay, due to uptick in demand. i.e. huge increase incels and/or single dudes refusing to get married and spending more time & money on hobbies instead, increasing crypto miners gobbling up gpu's, lack of competition in the gpu & cpu industries so there's no incentive to take actions to deter scalpers, etc. Look, PSU's need materials (including silicon) and rely on supply chains too. But why no shortage with PSU's? Could it be because there's competition and several companies making PSU's (not just one or two dominating the market). i.e. actual competition, so if/when scalpers buy up inventories, plenty of competitors exist to ramp up production and fulfill demand. For a less expensive gaming option, maybe consider reserving a Steam Deck. store.steampowered.com/steamdeck

^That Steam Deck actually looks like a nice product, as long as I can still connect a keyboard/mouse or controller. Might get one.

Apparently, it has both wired and wireless connectivity for peripherals. It can also connect to external displays via USB-C. www.steamdeck.com/en/hardware

I checked and it's only $5 to reserve a Steam deck. Expected availability is after Q2 2022 though.
Another YT vid talked about a rumor from a solid source that Nintendo's next portable console should be released late 2022. In typically Nintendo fashion, it's not likely to be backward compatible (with Switch). But at least it'll have updated hardware. Current Switch hardware is very dated and many AAA game devs aren't bothering to port their games to Switch anymore.

I think it was Rich at ReviewTechUSA (on youtube) who said, at minimum, the Steam Deck version with 256GB NVMe SSD is preferred because the base 64GB eMMC version would run the OS slower.

Ordered a PS5 disc system at retail price from playstation direct today. Sony actually made it easy. They had the smarts to set up a feature/event for Playstation Plus members that excludes all bots and most scalpers (which would normally buy all of the stock within 2 seconds of being dropped online). Albeit, you could consider it a paywall (playstation plus membership is $60/year). I can understand why graphics card companies don't give a shit if the majority of their sales go to scalpers - they don't profit from game sales. Microsoft and Nintendo, though, should pay attention to Sony though. I'm fairly sure that game console scalpers would eat into the game sales revenue of consoles mfg's. i.e. the more money that ordinary customers pay to scalpers, the less money they have left over to spend on games & accessories.

Microsoft is doing something similar already. They emailed me yesterday and included a custom link to purchase the Xbox Series X. I don't even subscribe to their game pass service. Must be because I'm registered on microsoft.com and have a subscription to their cloud-based Office 365.

The main differences (vs Sony's deal) is that it's sold as a bundle (you're required to purchase 1 game and 1 controller along with the console), they allow purchasing up to 2 consoles per month (w/ Sony it's only one console and a one-time deal) and no subscription to their online game service required to make the purchase.
Unfortunately, the custom link includes my login/email, so it's not ideal for sharing it on a public message board.

I have been subscribed to XGP, but I didn't get any email like that. It's too bad, because I would actually consider buying an Xbox.

I have been subscribed to XGP, but I didn't get any email like that. It's too bad, because I would actually consider buying an Xbox. Even though I ordered the PS5 and already received it, I went ahead and ordered a Series X too because I think it's a better console than PS5. Xbox has game pass and that by itself makes it a better console imo. Also, Xbox has somewhat better performance in some game review comparisons I've watched on YT channel "Digital Foundry" (such as "Tales of Arise" - in quality modes, this game has 60 fps lock on the Series X and occasional dips to 40-50's fps on the PS5). For me, the PS5 was worth getting too though because I already own a substantial backlog of PS4 games and PS5 is backwards compatible. Yeah, it's unfortunate, because I would've definitely shared the link if it worked for other ppl. I tested the link and verified that it's only accessible with my Microsoft account/login. Apparently, each link they out send is unique to one specific Microsoft account. Unlike Sony, Microsoft doesn't ship it right away. My Series X is scheduled to ship on December 1st with a 2-3 day shipping time, so I'll probably have it by Dec 4th.

Xbox Series X supports VRR (variable refresh rate) and 1440P resolution @120hz refresh rate, and only a select few HDTV's or monitors support all of these features to allow it to extract optimal performance. The LG C1 OLED checks all the boxes. Screen burn-in is a concern. If I chose an OLED tv, I'd probably purchase from BestBuy, since their extended warranties cover screen burn-in. www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-48-class-c1-series-oled-4k-uhd-smart-webos-tv/6453311.p?skuId=6453311Sony OLED tv models don't have these features yet. Makes sense I guess. They wouldn't want the Series X to outperform the PS5 on Sony's own brand of tv's. However, internet rumors are saying that Sony might at some point roll out a PS5 firmware update to add VRR support. This could be a very expensive upgrade though if you're a PS5 owner who finds out too late and already bought a HDTV that doesn't support VRR.

I think I'm completely done with gaming. #1 I don't even enjoy playing games anymore and #2 I looked up a 3090 TI OC and... $3500 for a graphics card? WTF? Yea, the juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore...

Yea, the juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore... Enjoying games less or not at all is part of getting older I think. If I play games too much within a week, I get burnt out on it and drop gaming for a while (weeks or sometimes months). Of course you're right, if you don't even like games, why bother. I have a $5500 line of credit through Dell/Alienware and could 0% finance any gaming laptop they offer. But I feel the same way, PC gaming isn't worth it anymore. I'm just a casual gamer anyway and play games anywhere from 0 to 15 hours per week. Thousands of dollars for a decent PC rig... no thanks. Also, I don't like sitting near a screen because I already do that everyday for work. Affordable game consoles make more sense for the typical gamer. Even at $500 for a next gen console, that's dirt cheap compared to a mid-level PC these days.

Yea, the juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore... The Microcenter near me (Dallas) had a 3090 for sale not too long ago for a pretty reasonable price, I didn't buy it though. I kinda gave up on finding a videocard for the time being, I'd rather put money into my other hobby (MTB).
I still play lots of games, I'm finding that my venerable GTX 1070 is still able to handle every game I throw at it. I do have to turn down settings sometimes but thanks to resolution scaling features being implemented in lots of new games (like AMD FidelityFX), I can keep most stuff on Ultra and I don't see a difference.

Its a good deal but my 2070 Super is still going strong, no reason to upgrade for 1080p gaming.

Its a good deal but my 2070 Super is still going strong, no reason to upgrade for 1080p gaming. I ended up buying a new bike instead of a gaming laptop or GPU, but I'll probably look into just getting a new GPU for my PC next year.
