Always wanted to play this one, bought it a year ago on Origin but it had stability issues and crashed a lot so I ended up returning it. I spent half as much for the GOTY edition as I did last time and it has been patched since, haven't encountered any instability or crashes yet.
This one reminds me a lot of the first Dragon Age, but they kept a little of the fast paced action from the second one and I find it to be a good balance. Also since the game's built on a different engine (same engine as the Battlefield games), you can actually jump and navigate around the whole environment which wasn't possible in the first 2 games.
The first Dragon Age made me recall games like Final Fantasy and (especially) Chrono Trigger, in that you have a group of different characters you can switch between and be tactical during battles. That being said, Dragon Age 1 is probably one of my top favorite RPG's of all time and Inquisition is definitely an improvement over the second one.
Been playing for several hours and so far I think it's a great Dragon Age game.

Ive finished it twice and got about half way through it again and got distracted. It is a solid game.
The biggest problem I have is the writers took the easy way out in regards to Blood Magic.
My Warden and my Hawke were both Blood Mages, however DAI retroactively acts like you could never be a Blood Mage. The Keep doesn't even ask you any questions about Blood Magic.
They really dropped the ball on that part.
Other then that it is a lot of fun, just don't get bogged down in The Hinterlands lol
I got one of my friends into it and watched her stream the whole thing on twitch. I streamed DA2 for her.

Also you can collect shards and astraliums I think they are called.
If that is your thing cool but there is no negative for not doing any of that. Its all fluff.

Also after you finish DAI if you want another RPG that is similar I am playing Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen right now. It Japanese but very much feels like a western game and doesn't have a whiff of Final Fantasy in it. It has less character development then Dragon Age but more interesting combat. Its fun.

I'm currently still in the Hinterlands just exploring, it's a beautiful place, lots of detail and variety in the evironment. I keep getting side quests just from going to random parts of the map, there might actually be TOO many side quests. So far it's still great, I'm glad they listened to the fans and did this game right. I did pick Human/Warrior for my first playthrough, so since I'm not a mage, the part about blood magic being cut out won't be such a big deal but that sucks for Mage characters. Blood magic was one of the most intriguing things about the first game, right next to Arcane Warrior. Also I went ahead and bought that Dragon's Dogma game while it was on sale.
