Its been about 10 years since I played them. Silent Hill 2 is considered one of the best games ever made. When it comes to creepiness however Silent Hill 4 is one of the most bizarre videogames I have ever played. They are old as hell now so it takes a bit of finesse to get them to work with modern systems: www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488899

I think Silent Hill 3 is the best of the series. However, 2 is fantastic. I think 4 is the creepiest but it's not an authentic Silent Hill.
Homecoming was decent though. It had a good story that has a new experience if you play it a second time.

I really love how they blended the "real" world with the "fog" world. And though a bit simpler than the story in SH2, I like SH3's story a bit more

I got Undying running, along with the mods for a bit better image quality (I think that's the one that gives me the 3dfx logo at the start, or is that just the way game is supposed to start?) and widescreen at higher resolutions. Lol at how badly I was getting lost in the mansion and getting my ass kicked. Then I remembered I needed a walkthrough the first time. It helps, but I'm still getting my ass kicked.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (redux) is creepy enough but I lost a good save moving to the redux version. Grrr. The game can give me a feeling of impending motion sickness at times, but I guess that's just a signal to stop.
I bought Funcom's The Park on sale. More of an interactive movie, and wow does it get dark near the end. I see it as being more of a creative exercise for Funcom's team, between jobs. It has atmosphere to burn, and if you can get it for five bucks it might be worth your dough. It's quite short.

I'll try The Park. The last new horror game I played was SOMA and it was very good

I played 2 first and completely forgot what you have to do to get the endings so I got the Leave ending just like the first time I played it , lol.
I am a little more then half through 4 and yeah it is the scariest of the first 4.
Going to play through 1 then 3 because 3 is the continuation of the story in 1.
Also I played the 5th one on Xbox 360 in 2008 I think and I don't even remember the story.

Never played any of the silent hill games. Well being a console hater I never played any of them till 2005ish. I really regretted it because they are very well done. 2/3/4/5 all have native PC versions. The first one works very well with Playstation 1 emulators and you can pretty up the graphics substantially. Years ago there was a torrent floating around that had Silent Hill 1 for Playstation and an emulator prepackaged with OK gfx settings and just just downloaded it and ran a .bat file. Not idea if it still exists out in the wild.

So I looked into emulating Silent Hill 1 today since I am getting near the end of 4.
The quality of emulation has gone up in the 11 years since I messed around with it. Last time I didn't give a crap about accuracy or whatever. I wanted the story and atmosphere.
This year alone they have made some nice improvements to PS1 emulators well above just getting them to run at 1080p with AA. Like crazy perspective corrected texture mapping and other things not possible in the PS1 days.
Too bad I never got into PS1 games because it would be fine to go back and play through more

Dunno if you're into MGS at all but the first one on PS1 is fukken dope... They did do a remaster for the Gamecube (Twin Snakes) that improved the graphics/AI and implemented mechanics (like 1st-Person view) that came along in Sons of Liberty.
