Huge TNG fan as a kid. Tons of fan service in the show like I expected.
I kept away from YouTube on this one so I assume they hate it.
I enjoyed it for the most part. I guessed the plot twist in the last episode once I saw them go to the planet in the last couple episodes.

I didn't care enough to actually watch it, but I have been watching the Redlettermedia reviews. They're huge trekkies and I enjoy them tearing into all the character and world inconsistencies.

You might not be aware unless YouTube pointed this out but they stole a plot point straight from a videogame that I think you said you tried but didn't like. Like its identical.

The Redlettermedia guys mentioned Mass Effect 3... Never played any of the Mass Effects. Yeah excellent games. {CLICK FOR SPOILER}The AI the androids try and call are the main antagonist of the ME series. Basically they wipe out all organic life but incorporate the organic life they wipe out into themselves thus "saving" them. They do this once civilization reaches a certain level of technology. Even the color scheme of the Reapers from ME is similar to the AI they were calling and they also come through a portal.

ME1 might frustrate you because gameplay is very RPG-ish and action sucks early in the game. Your character is very weak at the start and can't aim well 'til you level up and upgrade weapons. By mid to late game though, your character aims well and has powerful abilities.

Not wanting to start a new thread for it, but I just want to comment on how bad the 3rd season of Discovery has become. The first 2 episodes were pretty good, the first was pretty great even, but ever since it has been getting slightly worse with every episode. I only just bought the first season on bluray because I really liked that one, the second not enough to buy though and the 3rd is just bad. I know most Trek-people didn't like the first 2 seasons so I guess they're trying to change direction with it but now they've changed it to where nobody seems to care anymore (even though there were still some positive reviews of this latest episode on the imdb as well, though I don't think any of them would be from trekkies).
I liked the first season BECAUSE it wasn't Star Trek.

I liked the first season BECAUSE it wasn't Star Trek. I haven't got into any Trek shows passed DS9, DS9 was excellent and the characters acted a bit more realistic then in TNG, it was darker and edgier and had an actual plot that unfolded instead of being self contained episodes like TNG. I've tried so many times to get into Voyager and I just can't stand it. All the characters were either bland and uninteresting or extremely annoying. The budget for Voyager was also much lower then TNG or DS9 and you can tell. I watched like 3 episodes of Enterprise and couldn't really get into it. I might try out Discovery but so far haven't had any desire. DS9 is big shoes to fill. Also this was pretty great when I was in Junior High:

I liked the first season BECAUSE it wasn't Star Trek. "Not Star Trek" Star Trek would basically be Star Trek for normies and that wouldn't sell. Average normies have hundreds of other not Star Trek shows they'd rather watch. Sounds like the show's producers realized this (that they needed to appeal to Trekkies and fans of classic ST) by season 2, in an effort to recapture the Trekkie fanbase and bring up ratings to an acceptable level. lol

I guessed the plot twist in the last episode once I saw them go to the planet in the last couple episodes. Overlord DVD (aka. Doomcock) hates it (mostly for the reasons you'd guess). I'm not sure how valid those arguments are when applied to Star Trek though, because even Star Trek: TOS was ultra-progressive for its time. imo, any valid criticisms should be about how the newer shows deviate from Roddenberry's vision (i.e. peace, prosperity, discovery, striving for a better future over glorification of organized violence and the pursuit of materialism/wealth).

Yeah, Next Generation was my favorite too, next would be Original Series then Enterprise but only for watching the hot Yental and Vulcan - but I think Picard is gonna be second favorite the more I watch it after Next Generation. Couldn't get into Voyager either, I tried Deep Space but too much terrorist/refugee themes for me and most likely was missing Picard as leader and not used to anyone else being the boss. Some social justice being forced fed here too in Picard, but not enough to make me hate it. I think the actors are good, especially all the veterans from previous series - I really like all the cameos which I think were very well done. I just only seen the first season, so will be trying to see second season soon. I will also say that the darker more militaristic universe is not what I prefer either - all this swat team terrorist versus patriot crap is just as bad as the social justice crap. I too prefer the original universe in the Original Series and Next Generation, more optimistic/positive/idealistic makes for less chance making me go postal🍻
