On January 30th, Nintendo will be shuttering their Wii Shop and leaving Wii owners out in the cold. Any Wii digital games you own but haven't downloaded by Jan 30, you can kiss goodbye...
Or you could hack your Wii (or Android device, such as Nvidia Shield TV, with "Dolphin" emulator installed) and access the (soon to be) abandonware.
You know, on one hand, software piracy is bad since it can eat into profits of developers. But in the case of abandonware, this content could be lost forever if not for hackers. I read that Nintendo has submitted lawsuits against some of the rom sites too, so Nintendo isn't really concerned about content preservation or even letting the customers who bought & paid for digital content having any future means to access it.

Another reason emulation on a PC via high quality emulators like Higan is superior to consoles. These days you can build a tiny whisper quite PC that is 99% cycle accurate and can't just be snatched away from you.

For the moment PS-store is still up on the PS3. Guess it's only a matter of time though. Recently the mobile Youtube-site stopped working on the Vita, prompting for an app that isn't there. Luckily, for the moment, the non-mobile site still plays the videos but it's a hassle to navigate. I wonder if the Vita is still going to get update to resolve it, being all but abandoned at this point.
There was a reddit about it, seems like people are still using the Vita for Youtube for the simple fact the videoplayer can't show ads...

The same guy (from the vid above), has other videos outlining that PSP and Vita have various homebrew apps & emulators. You can even play PS1 games on the PSP and Vita with the right homebrew hack and emulator.

Not sure that applies to Wii tho. Sure, eventually it will. But I'm guessing it's not there yet.

I havent actually checked up on switch emulation in a good while

I havent actually checked up on switch emulation in a good while Some people still prefer playing on the original hardware for whatever reason/s, which is why we see all of these console hacks and homebrew apps. I've read that the Switch itself can be hacked, allowing people to pirate and play Switch games for free. It's probably not a good idea though. It's an online console and, in theory, Nintendo could do push updates to brick hacked Switch consoles and ban those customers from their online store.
