www.digitaltrends.com/movies/black-widow-movie-news-cast-updates/Something they forgot to mention or failed to consider is that this character isn't a superhero in the truest sense of the word. Black Widow doesn't have superpowers. Rather, she's more of a super-assassin. The character gathered quite a fan-base (probably from the six films she starred in, moreso than the comic books) and, after years of growing demand & pleas from those fans, the studio then decided to make a solo movie for her character.

I'd watch it but I certainly wasn't waiting for it to happen in the first place. Guess they feel now is a good time for more female superhero movies and there aren't any new female characters they can introduce anymore??? What more is there to learn about Black Widow?

I must admit I am not particularly excited about this news, but I'll take it.

Seems like you're asking these questions rhetorically because, logically, the movie shouldn't exist. The character has no superpowers and they covered her background pretty well in several of the six movies she starred in previously. No doubt there are many other characters to pick from in Marvel comics and not yet portrayed on the big screen, Black Widow hardly seems like the best character for a solo movie. So I think it's probably more the actor herself than the character she's portraying. Scarlett Johansson films generally draw in large audiences and do well. And a film like this will probably do very well, because millions of guys like seeing her in the tight costume and kicking ass.

I guess we can only hope they use it to introduce some other character(s), like they did for Black Panther and Spidey in Civil War. I don't know the Black Widow character at all from the comics so I don't know who else is in her periphery, but maybe some other female heroes that don't really have superpowers but can be useful, like Black Cat or something. If they just do an origin story and have a girl be trained and broken until she is the perfect soldier/spy, I don't see it working. Didn't we already have that recently with that Red Sparrow movie? I mean, I didn't watch it because I don't care so if that's the Black Widow movie, I wouldn't care either...

I happened to see the trailer for this. It looked quite mediocre although I must say I liked David Harbour in his costume. No idea who that character is supposed to be though.
