I already had an account, so other than verifying it, I was good to go. Downloaded the installer, and made sure to install it to a game drive and not C: like the default setting wanted to. Lol, then it launches Epic's version of Steam, and again get to choose an install location, this time for the actual game. The installer I downloaded was just for the Epic game service. So, again like Steam.
Downloading now, if it goes tits up I'll update.
Edit: P.S. The Epic game server is set to launch at Windows startup, but that can be turned off within its settings.

then it launches Epic's version of Steam I hate having multiple online game store/launchers from multiple companies. I normally won't open Epic Games Launcher, Origin, or the Microsoft store, like ever. I haven't even finished Crysis 3 because I keep forgetting I have Origin installed. It's like only Steam exists in my universe. BTW, since you already have the Epic Game Launcher installed, wanna play Unreal Tournament 1v1? Loser buys the other person a RXT 2080ti? I'm in if anyone wants to go for it! lol...

I rebought UT from either GOG or Humble Bundle along with Unreal, Return to Na Pali, Unreal 2, and UT 2004, as part of a pack. So, neeners on having to use Epic, I've already won!
I've seen you play, so I'll pass on any actual competition.

I've seen you play, so I'll pass on any actual competition. I was talking about the new UT(alpha). And you would probably beat me... I haven't really played it since last winter (just tired of first person shooters in general) and I'm embarrassingly rough around the edges to the point I have to alias to play it online because I don't want to embarrass myself too much...lol...(don't judge the alias, gotta have fun with the general population, lol)
OH just a FYI, the reason you can see peoples names through the walls is because that's a server side recording and I couldn't find a way to disable it when playing the demorec back but I don't see any of that during realtime gameplay (I don't like the idea of realtime recording, you know, performance hit @ 144hz/fps and I like my gameplay video to at least be a solid 60fps at the native res I play at).

"As pointed out by the reply below me, the shortcut that is placed on your desktop is tied to the launcher. If you launch the game from the executable file where the game is installed (or make a shortcut from that), you can launch it without the Epic launcher."
I also read that you can copy the game folder to another drive and then uninstall the Epic game launcher. It takes the game with itself, but the folder you copied will still have a working version of the game. Sort of like how UT3 works for me.
There's also some outage over how the opt-out of marketing choice is offered.
