Got it free on Steam for already owning the original Skyrim plus all of its DLC's. Still the same great Skyrim, just upgraded for 64-bit and DX11. Not really a remastered version, I don't think it's worth the $40 they are charging, should cost half that much.
Looks great overall, much better lighting and weather effects, better shadows, more grass and trees, lots of detail is visible from very far away, also no more distant mountains flickering. There's already some mods for it but I actually haven't gotten around to trying any, since I'm enjoying the game as is.
My only complaint is that there's no SkyUI. It did a great job at reworking the original game's inventory screens, but sadly there are no plans for a Special Edition version of it. Still a great game but there's no excuse for Bethesda being lazy and not reworking the horrible default inventory screens themselves.

I spent a bunch of time picking out mods for Skyrim, then I played it for a grand total of about an hour and a half lol. I got the distinct impression I was playing a single player MMO. Unlike Mass Effect or Dragon Age where the characters and narrative is front and center Skyrim it seemed to float in the background and didn't grab me at all. I might try it again but $40 is a bit steep.

I need to go back and play Skyrim. I just got the special edition for free as well. Been playing Stardew Valley mostly lately.

I picked up the SE for PS4 yesterday... I was in a charity-shop near to my place and found a copy of Terraria for £2.00 - after looking it up online I found that I could get £13.00 exchange at a place in town so headed in. I've never really been one for 'swords & sorcery' (I'm a guns & bombs man at heart) but thought I'd take the plunge given it had all the DLC included.
Being drunk and full of deloxious food probably wasn't the best way to start off but it seems interesting enough so far... I couldn't be arsed fucking around with all the creation stuff at the beginning - I think I got a wood elf... female obviously (No Homo!) can't remember clearly though... I think they have brownish skin. All the stats/skills menus were all far to complex for my booze-fuddled mind too.
Two questions...
When do I get to sex another character? y u no let me kill kids?

You can install a mod to kill kids pretty sure. Also so weird you bumped this cuz I just got the original Skyrim last night to Stream on twitch.
I went with the original not the SE as the SE isn't compatible with the majority of the mods.

Wow I'm dumb.
So I installed a bunch of mods including graphics mods. Then in the game I notice it looks kinda shitty. I am googling stuff trying to figure it out.
...........then I realize I never ran the launcher and set the options to high.

My character is pretty hawt. Going full mage as melee/bow gets boring quick.

In the brief play I had the other night I messed about with a few methods of fighting; I ended up mainly using a sword and burning fuckers with my flame-thrower hand...

I own Skyrim but I just couldn't get into it. I thought Arcania was better (played till the end). It's like Skyrim is just too hardcore and involving in the genre for me. Arcania is much more casual friendly. I thought Arcania had better graphics albeit Skyrim was so hyped. I had the HD texture pack and still didn't think Skyrim looked that great.

LOL funny you say Skyrim is "too hardcore" because I was just playing Daggerfall with DOSBox a few days ago and was like "man Elder Scrolls is so casual now"

So I decided to go down the rabbit hole that is ENB................yeesh.
I used ENB in F3/NV and also Fallout 4 and it was a cakewalk. However I had nothing but issues with Skyrim. When I finally got it running I was getting 20 fps outdoors and like 5-10 fps indoors.
Just gave up. Not worth the hassle anymore.

"20 fps outdoors / 5-10 fps indoors" #PCMR! Something was probably misconfigured but ENB is very complicated and there are like 1,000 variables to consider. I could have spent another 3 hours of my life trying to figure out the problem but naw. Not worth the time anymore.

I played it for a few minutes on PS4 Slim (should be relatively weak compared to most PC's) and the framerate was fine.

ENB is a graphics mod that drastically enhances lighting and shading effects in pretty much any game, you just put the files into the game directory and it (usually) works right away. It's highly customizable and there's lots of custom ones that people do and then put up for download. Only downside is, if you don't have a powerful enough system or you configure it in a way it doesn't like, you get lousy framerates. I remember when I used to play non-SE Skyrim with ENB on my old PC, I was happy with just 30fps at 1920x1080.
Seasons of Skyrim ENB was always my favorite but I'm not sure if it'll work with the SE version.

ENB is a very graphic heavy mod that completely changes the entire graphics system. It makes it look better but runs worse and also has 1,000 variables and if you have ONE wrong setting or ONE conflicting mod it can completely ruin your FPS or cause all kinds of nasty graphics glitches.

I haven't done much modding, only dabbled a bit. I recall modding Morrowind, increasing the draw distance or something, which resulted in horrible fps.

Yeah, that's more modding than I've attempted in a single game. I could do more of it if I wanted, but haven't put much time into it thusfar. However, I own Skyrim SE on PC too (bought it on Steam sale) and I recently ordered a new PC, so I'll probably attempt modding the game later and comment more on it later.
I used to widescreen mod games, back when widescreen monitors were a new thing. Widescreen & improved FOV for Morrowind and Freelancer were cool.
The last modding I've done was sometime last year, I used a hex editor to mod 16-bit emulator games. For example, in Shadowrun (an action/rpg for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive), I found a mod that allows you to change your main character's race (which affects max stats the character can achieve, so the mod does affect gameplay). Normally, only the NPCs are other/non-human races and the game lets you select from 3 classes, but limits you to human (for the player's character). It's not an easy or short game, so mods (and/or cheat codes) were important if you wanted to beat the game. If I recall, the game's built-in cheat codes (put in place by the developers) gimps the game's ending, so modding/cheats were preferred.

Anyone know of any good inventory mods for Skyrim. I know there was one nice one everyone was using, but it is no longer supported and doesn't work anymore. I forgot the name of it, SkyUI maybe. Also what is the best way to go about modding Skyrim? The Steam Workshop is the only thing I've really poked around with but I know a lot of people use 3rd party mod managers.

Many mods require it. I would recommend reddit. www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmodsBasically get Nexus Mod Manager. It is amazing. You download directly into Nexus Mod Manager and do not use Windows Explorer at all. Get all mods from Nexus Mods and click the Download with NMM link. You may also need LOOT for load order. WyreBash is a complicated tool you most likely will not need. I haven't used it once.
