I'm actually thinking about selling my PS4 Pro and going PC + arcade only. I can't stand the control input lag and low frame rates on modern consoles! I *might* hold out for Detroit: Becoming Human on the PS4 and then after I beat it then sell it. I kinda like to chillax and play those interactive movie type games on the home theater system from time to time and the PS4 seem to have the best games in that genre....

Valid points. The problem with modern consoles (except Nintendo, imo) is that they try to be direct competitors with the PC. Most of the games are cross-platform anyway and PC performs better, so it's obviously the superior choice. Back in the days of PS1 and earlier, consoles made more sense because they had a ton of exclusives you couldn't get on PC. But no more.
Regardless, I'll probably always be a (filthy casual) console gamer and not restrict my gaming to PC only. I have a job sitting behind a computer screen for long hours, so it's nice to be able to put some distance between my eyes and the screen when I play games. Also, I appreciate the simplicity of consoles and not having to spend time monkeying around with drivers & settings.
I could skip every other generation of console and I'd be fine with it. I'm thinking I'd probably only get a PS5 if it's backwards compatible with the PS4.

Yeah, not gonna happen. Best you can hope for is that some indie games will offer a choice of platform, like they do now. Many are both for PS3 as well as PS4 (and the Vita), though I've noticed lately the PS3 is getting dropped more and more and it's just PS4/PSVita nowadays. If I were to get a PS4, I'd already have a handful of indie games I originally bought for the PS3 that I could get PS4 versions of for free.
Don't expect this to happen for big titles, best you can hope for is a price reduction to get the same game on the newer console.

Yep, that's what I figure too. Just saying that's what they'd have to do to give me enough incentive to consider it.
To clarify, it's not just the backwards compatibility issue. It's the fact that I have a large backlog games I haven't played yet. No point in me buying another console and adding to the backlog.

I still have unplayed games I bought at a Steam sale a decade ago, lol. On the PS3 I also have a few. I just don't seem to have any time anymore nowadays. I was wondering this last night as well, looking at the backlog of new blurays I still have to see. I used to watch movies several times, even if I wasn't a big fan the first time but nowadays I can't even (re-)watch the ones I do like... And back then I still played games all the time as well. I wonder what changed.

I've had the same feeling, that there's less time in the day to do the things I want to do. It's probably a part of the aging process. Our minds get slower as we get older and time just seems to go by faster.

Doesn't help I'm more prone to falling asleep while watching TV either, lol.

PS3 is still one of the best devices for watching dvd's and blu-rays. Read a review that says it does much better HD upscaling of dvd's, compared to the PS4.

btw, they can yank games from your account/s even when the site is still up & alive. This happened with a couple of games (that I know of... maybe more) on my PSN (Playstation Network account). Diablo 3 and Final Fantasy XIV - both games were revamped w/ additional content and, when that happened, my copies of the originals vanished from my PSN library.
Absolutely recommend to avoid digital copies of games entirely. Also, avoid special/steelbook/deluxe editions of physical games, because the additional content is often given via digital code (so you pay extra, but u get nothing physical/permanent for having done so)... For example, this is what they (UbiSoft) have done with Assassins Creed: Origins Steelbook edition for PS4. With this game, you get a copy of the base game, a code for DLC, and steelbook case. That's it, not even an instruction manual. And if the DLC is only available digitally, i say don't buy it, unless it's something you're absolutely certain you want. Lastly, if you own any digital copies of games, you might want to keep a list/spreadsheet of your games library, so you can pirate the shit out of them when they're eventually yanked from your library or the site/service goes down (from the company going bankrupt, or being just plain greedy when they move on to only supporting newer gen consoles).

Same principle applies to Netflix or any movie streaming service btw. You're paying a monthly fee for a movie collection you can never be sure of will still be there the next day. I don't subscribe to that, but I do for games strangely enough. Also because a lot of the games I tend to buy nowadays don't even get physical copies anymore (indie and retro games) and it's just so easy not having to switch discs all the time.

That's the main redeeming thing about buying digital copies. Also, many ppl probably don't want shelves full of games, to save space for other things (like a movie collection). Also, if you had games everywhere, you'd look like a total geek to any non-gamer visitors.
