Yeah it looks like a very nice receiver, though for that price I might start looking into getting one of those home theater receivers instead. I noticed you linked this earlier: www.amazon.com/dp/B00PLCMZ8W?tag=viglink20248-20And it led me to this one which seems pretty good and even has optical, doesn't appear to have output for subwoofer though.www.amazon.com/dp/B071JN7GXN/ref=psdc_537344_t5_B00PLCMZ8WRight now I'm using Controller Companion (app that lets you control your entire desktop with an Xbox controller) to adjust volume with my Xbox One controller, D-pad up/down are set for volume up/down. Even while playing a game, I can still hit start + select and then use the D-pad to adjust the volume, then hit start + select again to put focus back in the game. A sub out isn't required, if you have a subwoofer with "high level" inputs & outputs. This method requires running an extra set of speaker wire. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KGA6A8A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1The SMSL one actually does have subwoofer output but I guess it has to use one of the SPDIF connections.

It also says 80Wx2, not sure of the wattage of those JBL's.

It also says 80Wx2, not sure of the wattage of those JBL's. If you're using an external amp, you won't want those JBL's (because those JBL speakers i linked have internal amps and wouldn't be compatible with an external amp). But their specs are... "Class-D 41 Watt RMS Amplifier for LF, and 41 Watt RMS Amplifier for HF." Interesting design, each speaker has 2 built-in amps - separate ones for low and high frequencies. I suppose that means it's 82 Watts per speaker.

Those are nice indeed. I did some google searching and found that something called a stereo breakout cable is all that's needed to connect the LSR305's to a PC. Cost-wise the LSR305's make more sense to get, especially since they have the amp built-in. Only issue is having a way to control volume conveniently, I did find this but I just wish there was something like this with a remote control as well: www.amazon.com/JBL-NPATCH-BLK-2-Channel-Controller/dp/B01I3B0OH6/

Seems like you can't go wrong with those speakers. They're affordable, the bass is impressive, and it's rated in the top 3 for desktop speakers by noaudiophile. noaudiophile.com/Recommendations/

Yeah I noticed the LSR305's say Studio Monitor, anything that says that should sound great. That stuff is designed for audio professionals who need to hear stuff as clearly as possible. The Sony headphones I got say Studio Monitor on them too, also they work great with the virtual surround on my soundcard. I played Fallout 4 last night and it was very immersive.

You might have noticed, the LSR305's are listed on www.jblpro.com only, where they sell their professional line of products, and not on JBL's regular site for consumer products. I like how those speakers look too, very different & stylish for desktop speakers. One review on Amazon... the guy said his wife even commented that she liked their look and he nicknamed them his "Batman" speakers. lol I'm thinking I might eventually pick up a pair of them also, and gift the Micca MB42x's away (they'd make an excellent gift to my dad).

lol "Batman" speakers I can see that. It'll probably be a few weeks or so before I buy any speakers, but I am leaning more towards the LSR305's than anything. So far these headphones are just great, I can hear stuff in music that I didn't hear before. Also saw them on Amazon for $80 so I went back where I bought them and they still pricematched. The only issue I can foresee with the LSR305's is that they each appear to have their own power cord (which is to be expected for these type of speakers), my battery backup only has 1 free outlet which is where the Z-5500's were plugged in previously. It does have 4 other outlets on it that are surge protector only, probably would be the only way around that. I guess I don't need my sound to be working if the power goes out, I usually just shut down my PC within minutes if it goes to battery power anyway.

For anyone who might be interested, Amazon currently has a good sale price (about $422 + tax, over $170 discount) on a Denon avr. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XYG978Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I had to return the Yamaha 383 avr to B&H Photo, because I could see that its box had been previously opened and re-taped. That's unacceptable - they pretend to be selling you a brand new item and send you open-box crap. B&H deliveries are painfully slow as well, at least from my limited experience ordering from them. I've had much better experiences with Crutchfield and Amazon (direct from Amazon that is, not resellers on Amazon). I've found that both have fast shipping and good customer service. Anyway, I ordered the Denon avr. I'll post my thoughts on it after I've tried it out. Edit: Note that the Denon AVRX1400H does NOT have video upscaling to 4K (i.e. takes a 720P or 1080P and upconverts it to 4K resolution). This could be deal breaker for some, especially considering many avr's (even cheap ones) include that feature these days. Didn't matter to me though, since my 4K tv has the 4k upconversion feature built-in.

Massdrop is great for saving money but it can take months and months before you get your order. I ordered my AKG K7XX in like March or something and didn't get them till June.

That's what prevented me from ordering those Sennheiser HD 58X headphones that you recommended in another thread (the delivery is sometime in July). So I ordered the model up, the Sennheiser HD 6XX's instead, since the delivery is in March. The wait on the SMSL amp isn't terrible either - just over 1 month.

As a owner of two 4k TVs I think 4k is pointless until you get to at least over 32" and it takes a shit ton of GPU power and turning settings down to get 60fps. My 43" 4k was just perfect at 3ft sitting distance and these new 27" 4k gaming monitors are going to be a total waste of GPU power because I think 1440p is more ideal for 27". My 75" is a top dog P series Vizio with HDR10/Dolby Vision with 128 zone local dimming and I played Horizon Zero Dawn in HDR and I didn't see anything overly impressive with HDR over standard. I personally would skip these new 4k HDR monitors coming out and just get a standard 1440p if you're not going to at least have a screen size of over 32". Those "accurate" presets are anything but accurate. If I look at a picture I've taken personally, I know what it should look like (i.e. the white in my dirt bike shouldn't have a red or green tint for example). I like to use quality photos (and video) I've taken personally when setting up a displays color. I wonder how old Ambience is? I feel like I'm better at twitch fragging now than I ever was! I also must be a high sensitivity player (12cm/360). I find low sens wears and tires me out very quick from all the immense arm movement and it didn't really help my aim at all and actually it made it worse because I had to move so far to turn and playing UT deathmatch you always have to be able to do a quick 180 to defend your ass and low sens feels like playing ping pong with 30lb weights on your hands, heh. I think you called it about HDR not being worth it. Going by the article below, HDR appears to be content driven (i.e. devs have to implement it in their games). Evidently, not many games on PC make use of it. There's perhaps 50-60 supported games (listed in the link below), out of thousands of PC games. www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/01/31/what-graphics-card-hdr-pc-games/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rockpapershotgun%2Fsteam+%28Rock%2C+Paper%2C+Shotgun%3A+Steam+RSS%29

I stopped chasing all the latest features years ago. I'm happy with my 1070 but I would log a stronger CPU.

The monitor I got (Asus PB277Q) has something called ASCR (Asus Smart Contrast Ratio), it's adaptive contrast ratio. I've noticed that it dims and brightens based on what's going on on the screen and when going between dark and light environments in games. Seems to maybe actually be some kind of simulated HDR. I've watched movies with HDR on my TV and I've noticed a similar dimming and brightening. All in all I'm very happy with this monitor, especially for the price. It looks great. Also glad I bought it when I did, the price has since gone up a bit.

The OLED tv's seem great for gaming. The response time of the LG's OLED tv is on par with gaming monitors, about 1ms. Well, I guess anybody interested in OLED but worried about burn-in issues could buy the extended warranty and generally avoid content with static screen images. This is probably the coolest idea yet for a tv... a new LG OLED with roll-away screen (the screen remains hidden in a box when not in use). www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-OLED65R9PUA-signature-oled-4k-tvSony's OLED tv is still technically better for gaming (PC and Xbox X) though, since those tv's are capable of 1440P resolution. But they cost a heck of a lot more (when comparing 2018 models anyway.. not sure about the 2019 models, like the LG with the roll-up screen, which I'd guess will be quite expensive too).

I am interested in OLED for sure but I'm gonna wait for them to get better and cheaper.
I've also heard they are gonna start using graphene at some point in displays (if they aren't already).

I've been looking at them lately and thinking that I'll eventually get one (and the extended warranty). The picture quality just looks so much better than regular LED. I'd prefer a Sony for the 1440P. But they cost significantly more, so more than likely I'll end up getting an LG. Reviews say that LG's "WebOS" is much better than Sony's "Android tv", so at least they have that over Sony.

Back to audio stuff (which was being discussed earlier), I have 2 old JBL studio monitor speakers (JBL Monitor 4208's) that I'm thinking about hooking up to my TV, I just need some kind of pre-amp or receiver with either HDMI or optical (SPDIF). Any recommended ones?

I've tried one of those $100~ amps last year, but found it unimpressive and returned it. Compared to all of the full-sized receivers I've tried in the past, which sounded good. That's why I'd recommend spending a few bills at least if your budget allows, so you'll have acceptable sound quality.

Makes sense, I wouldn't want a sub-par one. That Yamaha one does look very good for the price.
Ended up getting Logitech Z906's for my PC, been very happy with them so far.

People brag about Yamaha quality, even on the entry-level models. Use canned air to de-dust it every 2-3 months so it doesn't overheat, and it'll probably last many years.
