This is my final grail arcade machine to own. I want it bad. I've tried to buy and trade for one for the last couple of months with no luck. I love the timeless gameplay and cool cabinet with the beer tap controls. Problem is, it's a highly collectable game in the arcade community that normally gets $2000 and up for.
Some 24 year old girl just got the world record with a 24hr play just a month ago - I actually watched some of the live stream as it took place. Pretty cool that some of the younger generation is taking to the classic arcade games enough to go for world records, especially a female.
There's a pair on Ebay right now for $6500 www.ebay.com/itm/Budweiser-and-Root-Beer-Tapper-machines-for-sale/292211890217
The last one I tried to buy the guy was turning down offers of $3500 - I was like WTF?
I might have a guy lined up to buy one for $2200 but man that's a hard pill to swallow considering I only gave $150 for my last arcade game albeit I had to rebuild the monitor but that was like $6 in parts. But my hopes of getting lucky and finding a Tapper out there somewhere where the person doesn't hold it to such a high value like with my Asteroid Deluxe that I bought for a mere $150 is growing dim. I've searched everywhere from Craigslist, Letgo, and Ebay everyday and even stopping in to back country hole in the wall bars with the hopes of finding one still on location, maybe even broke down and the would be willing to part with it for cheap has been turning up nothing. I even have friends on the lookout with a $100 cash reward if I buy one that they find and report to me. Zero luck.
I don't know......I might have to cough up the $2200 if I want one because I really want this last arcade game grail and I don't think a deal is going to be had on it since they all seem to be in the hands of collectors that hold it to a high value. I asked Randy Senna that was on the show hoarders the owner of a big classic arcade in the boardwalk mall at Wildwood if he would sell his. He said that I couldn't offer him a price high enough to take it from him. I offered $3000 just to see what he would say (I wouldn't have paid that much) and he smiled and patted me on the shoulder and said go play it and enjoy it, lol. I tried to think of another classic arcade game that's cheaper with great replay and gameplay that I like just as much as Tapper but I just can't think of one I like as much to fill it's place. I actually can't think of another game I would even want for free. I have pretty much all my must-haves already (R-Type, Missile Command, Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede)
I hate being poor.
