Seems everyone's favorite genre changes from time to time, I am the same way.
I am just reaching out to some old friends to see which types of games you guys are into now?
I need some feedback in what direction to go with the game projects I've been working on and I have some examples to show you so you understand.
Right now on my plate I have the big game demo I am putting together with a couple of programmers and artists, its a work in progress that is years in the making so it is a struggle to finish. Especially not having a big budget like an EA or Microsoft funded game would have, but we plan to eventually jump into a kickstarter and go fund me situation when things are worked out. But that project is a long term thing, right now we are also working on short term or mini-projects to help fund the big daddy game. Things we can slap on the android market or apple market and sell for pennies and make funds to support the larger games.
So project #1, which is the big game, has changed direction a few times but now we have settled on a clone of Soul Caliber or Injustice instead of trying to complete a full on third person horror/adventure, we just don't have the resources for that right now. But we have the game set up where multiple game types can be experienced, but I really feel a side camera with melee, blood and gore against Lovecraftian monsters would be awesome to see and that is being worked on now.
I have some videos showing previous versions of the big game, when it was in it's "over the shoulder" third person camera view. Originally the game was going to go in this direction , like Gears of War. We had several gametypes for demonstration set up for the early alphas and betas, mainly a horde mode and survival gametype. Even though it was fun to slice and dice and explode demons everywhere, it got kinda stale and boring after awhile. After so many years to get to this point it was a hard decision to make to literally chuck it and start again in a different direction. At this point we went side scroller, that didnt work out too well and the character was too small to see and it just didnt work.
This is why I decided a fighter might be more appropriate for a small dev team, using all the art and animation content we have already made just using it in a different way.
Project #2 is a custom unreal engine 4 shooter that I put together for fun, to get that old school mod feeling again and have something to play with the team. It is basically a copyright nightmare that will have every character from every game I can get my hands on to blow up in an Unreal Tournament clone. This is something that will never be sold, but I might give it out so people can play with friends in multiplayer.
Project #3 is a pong clone, using the main game's theme as a background with some unique game effects like exploding balls and particle systems. This one is about ready for its first alpha, but it was just a test and may not ever be sold.
So give me some ideas, but please no MMO or something that requires a team of 100 with a budget of 20 mil.
Do you guys like shooters, third person adventures, horror jumpscares etc. I will probably use this to help with the VR game idea too.
