"BAYONETTA" seems to be example of a game remastered for PC done right, if you believe the reviews. It's averaging 90 on Metacritic.
The game is hack & slash though, so it could get boring quickly. At least it's only $20.

Yeah, hack & slash can be boring, unless there's more to it (large levels to explore or open world, interesting weapons & leveling system).

There were some nice visuals/set-pieces but ultimately it (like Devil May Cry) didn't have much to hold my attention.

The game was highly rated and, admittedly, it was well made (good graphics and gameplay, given the limitations of PS3 - i.e. no AA, the game had jaggies). imo, it felt too linear and lacked a sense of exploration. I didn't find the backstory to be very interesting either.

I trust YouTube videos more than gaming sites which have already proven to be a hotbed of bias and in bed with gaming companies. Personally, I wouldn't trust either. One of the pros of owning a PS4... You can rent, try before you buy, and decide for yourself if a game is any good. Don't get me wrong. imo, PC remains the best format for gaming. But when gaming companies stopped releasing demos and the PC gaming industry shut out rentals, people are forced to take a chance and/or trust the opinions & reviews of others.

Bayonetta is insane. I bought that for cheap on the PS3 quite some time ago but only got round to playing it last year summer. The enemies are crazy and the boss battles are epic. Usually played like 1 or 2 levels every day, that way it never became too repetitious. The insanity of it all kept me coming back for more. The only thing I really didn't like were the quicktime events that sometimes would literally come out of nowhere during what you believed to be a cutscene. Sometimes these meant insta-death, which would screw up your end-level scoring tremendously and unfairly...
And there was a driving section that went on for waaaaaay too long and abruptly ended with a quicktime event, which would put you back quite far when you failed it (which you're going to do, certainly the first time, because, again, it comes out of nowhere).
That being said, I enjoyed that game massively. Did I say it was insane?

How insane are we talking here? I played one of the Ninja Gaiden games on the original Xbox. The speed & difficulty of gameplay were unmatched by any other game I've played. Gameplay was good, you just had to have lightening reflexes to progress through the game.

Or you could pirate what you want to try out and buy it if you like it. Make sure you have a good VPN. I know this isn't a good recommendation or replacement for free legal demos, I'm just saying.
Renting is definitely a good way to go for consoles but I just don't care for them and I never want to play games brand new. Last two console games I bought shortly after release because I highly anticipated and wanted to play them were GTA IV & V. Bought them both for X360 and then bought them both again when they released on PC. Just not into the modern console scene. If I can't get it on PC then I'm not going to worry about it.

I seem to remember it being pretty cool (dismembering folk with claret pissing everywhere) but INFURIATING TO TEH MAX!!11

I've thought about going that route and just stick to PC gaming. I bought a PS4 anyway though, for a couple of reasons. 1) I work in front of a computer all day and, if I game at the end of the day, it's a nice option to have some distance from a screen/monitor. 2) PS4 slim w/ Uncharted 4 and an extra controller was relatively cheap (like $250) on Amazon during Cyber Monday/week last year. Cyber Monday/week is really the best time to buy console bundles. Lots of games go on sale that week too. It'd be nice to setup a gaming PC w/ an HDTV, but last time I tried a wireless mouse & keyboard, the input lag was pretty bad. Wireless controllers for consoles don't appear to have that issue for whatever reason.

How insane are we talking here? I'm not talking about difficulty, I'm talking about the visual design (of the enemies) and craziness of special moves and all the shit going on during the fights...

Especially since the keyboard controls were atrocious. Bought a PC wireless dongle for my 360 controller (one of the chinese $5 ones, not the microshaft $30 one) and it was instantly playable. A rarity for me when a controller is better than the mouse/keyboard. Saw it the other day and thought about starting it up again from the beginning. I think I had just beat the first boss and was moving on to a new section where I kept getting fucked up quick.

However, I only recently built a rig that meets & exceeds the minimum requirements for these games, so I haven't got around to playing them yet.

You know what, I think I'm gonna buy Bayonetta. Then in the review for it, I'll be sure to mention that I bought it instead of BulletStorm Full Crap Edition.

Lol, they don't even care about backwards compatibility when they're going strong, what makes you think they'd do anything decent when they're about to go under? Because gog.com supposedly does this on a limited basis, giving its users the option transfer some Steam games to their gog accounts. Granted, when I tried it a while ago, it didn't work and I haven't attempted it since. It could be I didn't have something set right in my Steam privacy settings. Here's the link. www.gog.com/connectYeah, I tried the gog.com connect thing again and it actually worked... successfully transferred Saints Row games from my steam account to gog.com account. The downside appears that they only allow select games to be transferred at certain times (likely, depending on the publishers' consent).

I dunno, I watched a comparison video and the remastered one actually kinda looked worse... but that is just IMO: Based on that vid, I thought the worst graphical update was the water. Evidently, enough people complained that they changed it to resemble the original game. Quote below from Steam - updates listing for new Bulletstorm.
