Found all 13 (I think) books in the series at a flea market for about $40 over a year ago and bought them. Finished with the first 3 so far and about 100 pages into the 4th one. Anyone else familiar with this fantasy series? The first one took a little while for me to get into, but I'm fully immersed at this point. The second one has been my favorite so far, but they have all had great moments. Sanderson writes with a lot of detail, but not enough to bore you like G.R.R. Martin sometimes can. I actually picked up the series because I needed a fantasy fix while waiting for the next GoT book to come out.

I played (and finished) a first person 'shooter' based on those books years ago. I believe it ran on the original Unreal engine. Game CD is sitting right behind me as a matter of fact. 1998 says the copyright... ...wow, almost 20 years ago.

I was big into this series, back in the day, and at one point I'd lost all hope that it would ever be completed... and then the original author (Robert Jordan) got sick and died. However, the torch was picked up by another author (Brandon Sanderson - who, btw, is my new favorite author) and the series was completed, and completed well, true to the original author's voice. I was actually at the launch event for the final book, and thus have a signed/numbered book.
The books up to number six are excellent, the late-middle books get slow (book 10 in particular is a slogfest), and the last few done by Sanderson are excellent again.
Overall, well worth completing the series as a whole, if you can make it through the slower books that is.
