Future Man - Season 2 (Download): After a bit of a rocky start, I wasn't that into the first 2 episodes: they set up a bunch of stuff I wasn't particulary on board with, but luckily it all gets properly explained and once that's done, the fun can begin. Enjoyable throughout, with a great ending. Part of me hopes this is actually the end though. I mean, if they make more, I'm sure it'll be funny and well written again, buton the other hand, I wouldn't mind if this is how it was ended.

The Jerk - had never seen this movie for some reason, but it was very funny, actually even funnier on my second viewing. I am confused as to why it's called "The Jerk" though, as near as I can tell that is supposed to be Steve Martin, but his character doesn't appear to be a jerk at all. It's possibly a play on words. A long time ago, people doing service jobs would sometimes be called jerks in a non-insulting fashion. A soda jerk would be the person jerking the soda dispenser to fill glasses with soda. I guess that could also apply to dispensing gasoline.
Lol, I just saw this: "Soda jerking was dominated by popular young men with loud personalities and good people skills because of the popular environment and 'cool' association. These boys who worked at the shops were expected to serve the drinks and also socialize and entertain the guests."
So in old time movies, when a girl says a guy acted like a jerk, she might mean that somewhat literally, that he was arrogant, loud, flashy, and perhaps acting like he was too cool to be with that girl. I maybe learned something just now.
"Soda jerks were known for having their own lingo for how their drinks were made. They created nicknames for different drinks. For example they called a glass of milk “baby” and a strawberry milkshake “in the hay”.[5] They also had lingo to express how they wanted their drink to be served. Coffee being called “draw one” would be served strong if called “draw one from the south”. If a drink was ordered with extra ice it was “Heavy on the hail”."
Memory fails, but didn't Martin also get a job at a carnival, where he was slinging the lingo?

Perhaps societal expectations have changed as well, which could explain why the meaning of the word (jerk) evolved to be pretty much the equivalent of asshole (worse than the original meaning). Being a loud-mouthed moron used to be looked down upon. But today, you could argue that this behavior is generally regarded as a sign of being an alpha-male (extrovert, possessing great confidence).

Oh yeah, I have heard the term "soda jerk" but I didn't make that connection. Makes sense now though, I can see that being applied to other professions in those days.

Once Upon a Deadpool - I can see why it got mediocre reviews. I really thought they would try to push it even though it was a PG-13 cut, but it ended up just feeling like a cheapened experience. Lots of scenes and jokes are missing.

Speed (Bluray): Still works. I could tell the kids were into it, at least once all the stuff with the bus started. I still feel they should've ended it sooner. Once the bus is gone, so's the tension. The final part with the metro isn't as good.
Fight Club (Bluray): A true classic and still one of my favorite movies of all time.
The Nines (Bluray): Melissa McCarthy is so charming in this. What happened?

First Man (Download): Interesting. You knew, coming from the guy that did Whiplash it wouldn't be a conventional biopic and it wasn't. All the flying/space scenes in particular weren't. They all were from the perspective of the characters, only hearing and seeing what they experienced, with little to no outside shots, which certainly made it special.
Serial Mom (Bluray): My first and only John Waters bluray. Might not be his most prolific movie but it's got most of the ingredients and it's just a lot of nonsensical fun.

First Reformed (Amazon Prime): Cool little indie movie, I found out about it because Lustmord did the music and I follow him on insta. Best to experience it by watching it and not googling anything about it.

Future Man - Season 1 (Download): I noticed a second season was released so no better time than now to revisit the first before diving into that. So funny. They have fun with the time travel clichés but the (crude) humor that isn't about time travel works as well. Hopefully the second season is just as good. I'll find out over the next few days, I guess. I've been re-watching Season One, and as they talked about Cameronium, in James Cameron's house, it hit me that all these years I was oblivious to the choice of the name "Cameron" for Summer Glau's character in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. lol
I started watching Season Two but I realized I'd forgotten a lot of season one, so I'm going to finish watching that before jumping back in to Season Two. I gotta do that with Daredevil as well, as I forgot his involvement with Elektra.
I also have the Punisher season two on deck. I was really impressed when I learned about Bernthal's research of the character. Traveling to comic book stores, and the fans steering him to the best issues, ones central to understanding the Punisher.

I've been re-watching Season One, and as they talked about Cameronium, in James Cameron's house He gets another nod in season 2. Remember Wolf spending a few years in the late '80s, early '90s and being very torn up about having to shut off Sigorn-E? It's got something to do with that...

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened - Netflix documentary that just came out recently, shows an in-depth look into the failure of Fyre Festival. More interesting than I thought it would be, it shows the impact this whole thing had on the Bahamian island's actual residents as well, which was something that wasn't really covered when all this was going on. Hulu also made a documentary about the same subject called "Fyre Fraud" but from what I've heard, the Netflix one is better. *edit* There was actually a GoFundMe started for a restaurant owner who spent $50,000 of her lifesavings to pay her workers for making meals for the Fyre attendees. It's raised quite a lot now (close to $200,000 last I saw). www.gofundme.com/exuma-point-fyre-fest-debtI can't help but wonder if they were the ones who made the meals with the salad and cheese sandwiches. At any rate, they still deserve to be paid for working day and night to give those people some kind of sustenance.

The Punisher - Season 1 (Download): Fuck Disney for canceling these Netflix Marvel shows. The first season of the Punisher is up there with the best of them. Jon Bernthal is awesome as both Frank Castle as well as the Punisher in full Punisher mode. My only gripe, and this goes for most of the series, is they don't put the characters in their costumes often enough. This being said, I do feel they struck a pretty good balance in the Punisher, it makes sense within the story.
Rewatched this first season to prepare me for the second, which I've started watching this morning.

Die Hard 4.0 (Bluray): Can't even remember the alternative titel. It's a good action movie but it hasn't aged well technology wise. PDAs and flip phones, heh. I never bothered watching any of the consecutive Die Hard movies. Have there been 5 or 6 already? In any case, it looked so far from what Die Hard was supposed to be they completely lost me. Isn't one of them like in Russia or some shit?
The Tale of Princess Kaguya (Bluray): Japanese animation I bought a while back. It was an oscar nominated Ghibli flick for a low price so I figured I couldn't go that wrong. Well... It looked remarkable, like water colour backgrounds and characters brawn with crayon and the animation was amazingly naturalistic and the beginning was really funny. A bamboo cutter finds a baby in a bamboo sprout and raises it with his wife. The kid grows like bamboo as well and becomes a young woman within a year. The cutter also finds a bunch of gold in the bamboo and figures he's supposed to raise the kid as a princess so they all move to the city. Of course the kid is miserable there and misses the nature and her friends... ...in the end it turns out she's from the moon and the moon people come get her back. Not really my thing, and it certainly didn't need to be 2 hours and 15 minutes, but ultimately I kinda enjoyed most of it. Gotta love the Japanese, even in a cutesy fairy tale like this, within 5 minutes you're still looking at a big nipple, lol, it was just to breastfeed, but it was a big nipple nonetheless.
First Reformed (Download): Well, this was 2 hours without a pay-off. I wish somebody had warned me but I've read mostly good things about this. Looked like a 90's British sitcom, especially with the pretentious 4:3 screen format that was completely unnecessary.

The Punisher - Season 2 (Download): Another good season with a satisfying conclusion. If the Punisher never comes back in this form, at least he got a decent ending ro his story arc. 2 good seasons and the best part of Daredevil season 2, but yeah cancel it all and go and make some kid friendly Loki and Scarlet Witch shows because that's what we want... Antibirth (Download): Looks to me like Natasha Lyonne is a very natural actress when she gets to play complete strung out white trash Still no luck in tracking this movie down on bluray. It's not great, but it's worth it for the ending alone, which is all kinds of fucked up... The Punisher: Warzone (Bluray): That Lexi Alexander, she sure likes her colour filters. I wanted to rewatch this just to see how different the Jigsaw character looked here in comparison with the second Punisher season. The answer is: vastly. I seemed to remember as much but I wasn't sure but yeah it's day and night. Here he's completely torn up, in the Punisher season 2, it's just a pretty guy with some scars, lol, guess they didn't want to lose the core audience of women tuning into the Punisher to see Billy Russo, lol. Frits & Freddy (Bluray): Some dumb Belgian comedy that's about as good as I remembered from seeing it back in the theatre. Mediocre. It's one of those typical cases of 'all the best moments were in the trailer', because that trailer was hilarious, sadly nothing else in the flick lived up to it...

What Happened to Monday - Netflix movie about 7 identical twins (septuplets) who are each named after a day of the week, they pose as 1 person and are only allowed to go outside by their grandfather (played by Willem Dafoe) on the day they are named after. Also there is a strict 1-child policy enacted worldwide due to overpopulation, which is why they do this. Not bad and it has a very interesting premise, but after the first 1/3 or 3/4, it seems to slow down and then get good again towards the end. Kind of boring overall but I felt that it was worth watching. Also I like the actress in it (Noomi Rapace).

Bobcat Goldthwait's Misfits & Monsters - Season 1 (Download): Rewatch, watched this episode by episode when it first came out and rewatched the entire series in a few days. Satirical anthology scifi/horror/comedy series that's mostly good. Sometimes clever, sometimes more on the nose but certainly enjoyable throughout. I hope more's on the way...

Split (download): Its no secret that M. Night Shamalyaahdbehhbabehgvj's movies are meh. Since Glass is out I finally decided to watch this one, debating going and seeing Glass in the theater. It was what I expected. Yet another movie about multiple personality disorder/DID with a horror angle very similar to another one from the early-mid 2000s but I don't recall the name of that. Completely average flick in every way.

As a horror flick tho, I'd agree... average or below average. www.newyorker.com/culture/richard-brody/the-real-spoiler-in-m-night-shyamalans-splitDamn, I hadn't considered those things even after watching the movie a couple of times. Glass (Download): Downloaded a shitty cam version. It was about what I expected. OFC since this is M. Night there is a twist, I thought I guessed what the twist would be but I was wrong but the actual twist was still just eh. Doesn't really have any good fight scenes. The ending basically apes the plot of another and IMO better movie: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}The big first twist is basically the plot of Jumper from 2008 which also had Samuel L Jackson which I kinda guessed but the reveal was totally different then what I thought it was going to be. The "double twist" I didn't see coming a t all I thought the "double twist" was going to be Bruce Willis killing The Horde and Glass and being recognized as a hero, then he would come too back in the hospital and they would be like "the medication isn't working" or something but that would be far too much of a downer ending for M. Night.

Avatar (Extended Bluray): Even though this movie looked amazing in 3D and I have well over a hundred 3D blurays, strangely Avatar isn't among those. I guess it's because I only saw that version the once in the theatre and ever since I've seen this extended edition. I'm afraid I'd miss all the added stuff more than I'd appreciate the extra dimension. Still, if I ever were to come across it cheap, I should get it...
The Hitcher (Download/DVD): I'm in love with the way JJ Leigh looks in this movie... As for the rest of it: I've always liked this movie. It's like a nightmare. Every time you think the guy is getting a break, the awesome and menacing Rutger Hauer is there to torment him some more. Hey, I'd split JJ Leigh in two as well, but not that way...
Hardware (Bluray): Cult-fucking-classic!
Bayonetta: Bloody Fate (Bluray): The first time I watched this was pretty close to playing the game and I couldn't get used to the Japanese voices so I restarted it with the English track, which used the same actors as the game. That was a long time ago, long enough to be able to appreciate the Japanese track, which is just about always better in anime movies. It's a decent enough movie, reminiscent of the game, just a lot more clear in the story department because it doesn't take a week to complete, forgetting everything in the process...

Pan's Labyrinth (TV): Have this on DVD but still haven't gotten around to getting it on bluray. This is one I can't get on Amazon Germany because of the lack of either English or Dutch subs. But it was on TV subtitled and I watched it with the wife who'd never seen it.
Bad Neighbours (Bluray): One of the funnier comedies to come out in the last few years. Seen it a couple times by now, still have to laugh out loud several times during the movie.
One Cut of the Dead (Download): Surprisingly awesome Japanese zombie movie that turns out to be not so much a zombie movie but I feel telling more would be spoiling the surprise. Let's just say it isn't going to be what you think its going to be, it certainly wasn't what I thought and I'm glad it wasn't..
I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore (Download): Another one I'd like to own, but Netflix won't let me. Tired of waiting I just rewatched the download. Funny and quirky little black comedy.
Tormented (Bluray): Big fat kid that got bullied at a school comes back to kill its tormenters one by one in an enjoyable little British horror romp.

I'm hoping you get a kick out of the following, Cop. I'm watching this season of the Punisher a few minutes ago, and I'm at the episode where Madani sits in on the veterans group. It's important that I note this episode takes place in NYC. So the one young vet starts talking, and he leads off with "my father was an asshole", and then he goes into how he joined the army partly so as to get away from his hometown of Mastic, a shithole full of losers.
Lol, that town is part of the suburbs on Long Island, on the outskirts of NYC, nearby to me, and I can't wait to see my friends from there.
And fwiw, it takes pride in its rough and tumble reputation, and you gotta be careful going into its bars. I'm pretty sure they'll be hooting in Mastic over this shout out.

Possibly this version is done, but afaik its more of a matter of the rights getting yanked away from Netflix. It might be a smart move for the new managers of the property to continue such an already popular series. Otherwise they risk the animus of the very audience they'd need for the Punisher five, ten, or twenty, years from now.

Star Trek: Discovery - Season 1 (Download): Rewatch of the first season before I start watching season 2. I was contemplating just buying it on bluray but I couldn't quite remember how well I liked it and I'd kept all the downloads anyway so I thought: "I'll just rewatch those and if it turns out I still like it, I'll get the boxset once the price has come down a bit." I should've just bought the season because it turns out I do rather like it, moreso than other Trek, apart from the new movies, which I also like. I've never been that much of a Trekkie, seen some of the original series back in the day, quite a bit of TNG and some of the movies and this Trek is the most up my particular alley. Looks great, not the flat lighting and cheap sets of the series, great FX and who cares if the story isn't real Trek, I don't care about real Trek that much. I care about this kinda shit more...
