Yep thats it That's Antonio Fargas, the connection to the streets for Beretta (Robert Blake). He had a memorable part in a movie starring Anthony Quinn, Yaphet Kotto, and Anthony Franciosa. Spoiler Alert! You really, really, really, don't want to get caught by an up and coming mob boss with a lot to prove after killing his guys and stealing his dough. The original Ghost in the Shell anime movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. That being said, hope this live-action one turns out good. Now where's the live action Akira movie?
*edit* Nope, the other movie this guy directed was Snow White and the Huntsmen... Not very high hopes for Ghost in the Shell.

Doesn't look like the plot has much to do with the original movie, in fact, plotwise it seems to be generic as fuck. 'Someone' is using her to fight 'bad guys', saying they saved her, turns out the so-called bad guys are actually the good guys and the ones that 'saved' her are in fact some bad corporation out to destroy the 'good guys'. Now, to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the original movie, much too slow and esotheric for me, but I am a big fan of the second, which to me is far superior in every way and while the story is still quite 'out there' it makes more sense to me than the first... ...and it all looks gorgeous, unlike this trailer.
The TV series is pretty good as well (I've got 2 seasons of that, don't know if there is more), but again very esotheric and quite hard to follow, especially in Japanese with subs. Maybe in this case the dub would be easier to follow...

I'm not really an anime fan at all but I will say GotS and Akira are worth watching at least once. I completely quit anime around 2003. So many people were raving about Attack on Titan that I downloaded the first season and only made it like 2-3 episodes in and got bored and deleted the rest.
I just don't dig the whole anime aesthetic and how pretty much every single anime has all the same trite cliches(here is the part where we zoom in on the characters face and their eyes twitch then they YELL!) and ultra-cheesy presentation. Just not for me.

I find that's only the series though, the movies still do good and original stuff. Check out Redline if you haven't already. Every hand drawn frame of that movie is a work of art in and of itself.

Well I sat down and watch Ghost in the Shell 2. First Anime movie I have watched in over a decade it started out ok but quickly ran into "animeitus" or better put NARM: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NarmI just don't like anime. Bleh. |
