It's mostly a tech demo. But wow. It's still a breakthrough in graphics rendering at a playable framerate, for a home gaming console.
The guys at DigitalFoundary were impressed and had mostly good things to say about it. They say one of the reasons it looks so good is that the new Unreal 5 engine allows devs to utilize hardware ray tracing. Up 'til now, other games used software ray tracing, which doesn't offer as good of image quality and has a bigger performance hit.

That makes Cyberpunk 2077 look like Punkbitch 2077.
*edit* that being said, I do like Cyberpunk 2077, just that The Matrix Awakens looks incredible.

Cyberpunk uses too much cartoony colors imo. Wish games would take the more photo-realistic looking approach.
