I had every intention of playing Silent Hill 2 when I got home later, turns out the Alan Wake 2 story DLC released today. Well crap. Which do I do first?

Looks like the DLC takes like 2.5 hours to finish....thats all? I think the first DLC they released was about that, and supposedly the next DLC was going to have a ton of extra content. A little disappointing.

Just now in FO76, one of the funniest thing ever (that I have seen) happened. This game actually has one of the most peaceful and pleasant online communities I've ever seen in any game, but every once in a while there's a rotten apple who wants to disrupt events and bother other players.
This wasn't someone disrupting anything per-se but I noticed another player using the point and laugh emote at another player who was down, instead of reviving him. I tried to catch up to the downed player but couldn't get there in time, so I hit the player who was laughing with my weapon and it somehow instantly killed him instead of initiating PVP first. Sure enough he was pissed when he respawned, kept following me around so I did the same point-and-laugh emote at him until he went away. Might've even caused him to miss out looting the boss since he had to respawn. PVP in this game normally doesn't initiate until both players mutually attack each other, so him hitting me was doing nothing unless I were to hit back.
Probably one of the best cases of instant karma I've ever seen. Near as I can figure he may have had one of those low-health/high-damage builds, which I actually went away from and started going for high health instead. This game does have some weird crazy bugs and glitches though, always seeing new ones.

As far as I know it's not free to play yet, but I have seen it get super cheap during sales. Wouldn't recommend getting above the base version, the stuff that comes with the more expensive editions seems to be just cosmetic stuff but I'm not 100% sure on that. The good thing is that all past and future story DLC expansions are free.
The game does get super boring eventually and I have to stop playing, I've noticed that friends who also play the game seem to take big breaks from it eventually. It does have a LOT of content though, still haven't played most of the new story content either. They have changed a lot of stuff, like now legendary mods can be learned or at least a single copy of one can be obtained just from scrapping legendary items. Very rare to get or learn anything from scrapping legendary items though, seems to be very random.
I've noticed on my Steam friends list that 1badjedi has been playing it too, haven't reached out to him to see if he wants to play together though.

Just finished the Alan Wake 2 DLC. It was actually really good, nice Halloween vibe. Was surprised how dark the story got.
There is an annoying mechanic in the DLC where you need to hunt down numbers, you will know it when you see it. I hated that part. I didn't have to Google the answers but still not exactly my cup of tea. Other then that I liked it.
Feels like just when you are getting the hang of it, it ends.
Oh yeah, the story has some pretty strong critiques of AI Art in general, but I don't want to go into spoilers.

Made it a little bit into Silent Hill 2. You can enable Ray Reconstruction with some .ini edits if you copy the right .dll into the Win64 folder.
The thing is even with RR on I was seeing weird shimmer and artifacts through glass and in puddles, turns out Ray Reconstruction has quality levels just like DLSS and its set to the lowest apparently. There might be a way around this but not sure exactly how.
Turns out ALL of the guides on enabling Ray Reconstruction say to disable all other denoisers, this is a mistake. You can enable all of them at once, then the image looks much sharper.
The game supports DLSS Quality but not DLAA so I used DLSSTweaks to force it. Had to use a minor workaround to get it working but it is.
Obviously turning all of this stuff on requires a beefy GPU. Silent Hill 2 Remake is pushing my GPU harder then any other game has.
They say turning shadows from High to low and a couple other options to low can net you like 40%+ performance boost with negligible drops in IQ. I have not tried that yet.

9 hours into Silent Hill 2.........its so weird seeing the same thing you have already played 5 times over 20 years playout in a different way.
SOMA has a "safe" mode that makes it so monsters won't attack you, they added this so people could just take in the atmosphere of the game. It would be cool if that added something like this. There is already a cheat engine table that makes monsters not attack you.
Also, I went with mods to improve the flashlight and make the health system match the original.

Found this offer where you can get in-game items for FO76, apparently Doom Eternal and a few other games as well, just for signing up for email communication. Expires on the 14th of Nov. freebundle.bethesda.net/en-USIn F076 it's a pinball machine and bowling arcade machine (and a few outfits), for Doom Eternal skins for weapons and character. There's also some stuff for Rage 2 and Wolfenstein Youngblood. *edit* Also messaged Jedi on Steam and we met up in FO76, was pretty cool.

Looks like Fallout 76 is "already in my library" on Steam.........I have zero recollection of getting it via some free offer or something. After I finish Silent Hill 2 Remake I was thinking of playing through Alan Wake 2 again New Game Plus "The Final Draft". I saw the patch notes fixed a ton of annoying stuff: www.alanwake.com/story/alan-wake-2-update-notes/I finished AW2 before they released any big patches. Nice they added so many quality of life fixes.

^F076 used to only be available via Bethesda launcher but they moved it to Steam a while back, I remember you mentioned refunding it when it first came out (way before they moved it to Steam). I think it's possible what happened was you had Bethesda account linked to Steam already, maybe Bethesda didn't update something on their side and it caused you to receive the copy on Steam.
*edit* Also left off on a 2nd playthrough of AW2 on that Final Draft Mode, been meaning to get back to it as well as check out the new DLC's.

Outer Wilds is on sale on Steam, I keep hearing how amazing it is "I wish I could wipe the memories and play it again". I know next to nothing about it. Might pick it up.
Last of Us is on sale again, $35. I guess the port still has issues.

Nice they added so many quality of life fixes. Same. I looked in the three places I purchase Steam keys and found that I purchased the (then) Deluxe edition during Winter 2023 for about $7. Fallout 76: The Pitt Deluxe Edition is no longer the deluxe edition or referenced at all on the Steam page. It appears they've released more DLC and renamed the Deluxe edition to something else. Goes to show that, with Steam & digital games, you can never be sure you have the final version of game. I've heard horror stories of Publisher/Devs giving games u buy on GOG the 2nd class citizen treatment (i.e. frequently not updating with the latest patches and/or DLC). That's your pain & punishment for choosing (a more) DRM free platform. GOG used to be completely DRM free, but i think they changed that a while back.

The screenshots of Outer Wilds kind of give off Myst vibes, like it's a unique and one of its kind type of game (the feeling i had playing Myst before the sequels to Myst came out). At a glance of the screens, it appears to tell its story mostly through visuals, like Myst did.

Finished Silent Hill 2 Remake. I have mixed feelings. Took me 18 hours.
With graphics maxed you really need DLSS/FSR/or any of the other competing tech. Right now you have to choose between a rock solid environment or people. With DLSS on the environment looks rock solid, but peoples hair looks strange with weird glitches, especially the little girl in the story. If you switch to FSR3.1.1 you get most of the hair problems fixed........but there are weird little environmental glitches.
I am very happy that one of my favorite series, that I have streamed on twitch multiple times, and is always on the top of lists of best horror games of all times got remade and is reaching a wider audience.
Even tho its extremely easy to play the original 4 games on any half-decent PC released in the last 10 year some people are intimidated by old games even if you just had to download a single patch or edit a .ini file. This gives those people a click to play experience.
That being said nothing is perfect. Near the end of the game I was reminded of Alien Isolation. Isolation is an amazing game, but it wears out its welcome near the end. It really could have done with a nice 10-20% trim of the fat.
I completely understand not wanting to release a 5-9 hour game in 2024 especially when the Resident Evil remakes are so good, but so much of SH2R feels like pointless padding. They added nothing to the game but padding and extra puzzles
Blooper Team was damned if they do, damned if they don't. If they changed ANYTHING about the story they were going to be skinned alive by purists, but if the don't add to the story the game is super short.
There was parts added that were previously only concept art or teasers and such, and this is great, but I found myself really wishing the game would just end already when I got to the final stage.
Case in point, last night I logged off at a spot where in the OG game you have about 30 minutes tops of gameplay. So I figured today I would be finished quick. Nope, they turned a very short area in the OG into a 2.5 hour section complete with puzzles.
Soooo many puzzles this time around. In the original I think there was one section where you use a metal valve handwheel, maybe twice, not sure. In the remake you use like 6 valve handwheels through the game. In one section you use the handwheel, then in the VERY NEXT ROOM you have to use the same handwheel. They just copied and pasted it.
I never thought I would say Silent Hill 2 needs content cut but when the content is pointless busywork that just pads runtime then it should go.
The game would be better if it was 20% shorter. It also has the hardest rumble I have seen in a game when you set rumble to hard.

Don't mean to keep plugging FO76, but I just noticed they fixed lighting a lot (again). There used to be a lot of external light bleeding inside of interior spaces, was very distracting and ugly.
Lately been finding the game more pleasant and immersing to look at, the lighting does look much better after the last major update (sound quality is also better). Still not perfect but I'd say they fixed it somewhere between 88-93%, seems like they are making much better use of SSAO when it comes to being in the woods, and interior spaces. Much darker.
The main problem is that it's an old game engine and the lighting system is very outdated. There's not even shadows in some places, mostly at CAMP interiors, shelters, and a few other interior places.
One thing I wish they'd implement in this game that they have in Starfield is being able to grab onto edges when jumping up.

Saw a cutscene where Isabela misgenders another character, does 10 pushups as an apology and then there's a whole lesson/lecture for the player about pronouns and misgendering, played out like a PSA. There were a lot of modern terms in there and it just seemed really forced and out of place for the world of Dragon Age.
But reportedly the main quests themselves are very good.

I actually already purchased it. It was very weird but I was browsing non-spoiler reviews and they benchmarked it with my exact CPU/GPU combination and at Ultra was getting 120 fps. People are praising it for having Blizzard levels of polish. That said before I start it I am waiting for at least patch 1, just like I did the Silent Hill 2 Remake. The community did a ton of work fixing Silent Hill 2 in 3 weeks and I am sure they will do the same with Veilguard.
Just realized I have no idea if the game has modding support like Origins or not. Origins mods really changed the game for the better.
As for the politics I wish they put in more "woke" stuff just to piss off all the wannabe-Jordan Petersons on YouTube freaking out about this game. People have been bitching about Bioware games identity politics for over 10 years now. I remember reading "the straight, white, male gamer is being neglected and they are your core audience" even back then people said it was a stale argument.

I understand the intentions are good behind "woke" stuff. It's basically the Golden rule - treat others how you'd want to be treated. It's a pretty basic concept and, yet, seems most often religious people are the ones breaking it.
However, compulsory speech (which is what JP was protesting in Canada) is a slippery slope. Yes, it's only pronouns. But hear me out. There's a reason our founders included free speech in the first amendment of the Constitution.. it's because compulsory speech has been, historically, a tool of tyrants - the monarchs, Catholic church, etc - to exert control over the masses. Then it was used again later (after the founders time) by Fascists and Communists.
The forced use of pronouns is one step away from what's eerily been predicted in many works of fiction - about future worlds, such as where Communism takes over. eg. Everybody is barred from saying I/me and required to say we/us only (pronouns). I read one book like this in high school - I wanted to say it's "The Street Sweeper" because the main character starts out as one, his job and everything, including who he procreates with, his language use, decided by the govt. Even Star Trek has this theme.. "we are the Borg," tho the compulsion is through technological means.
The scary part of overruling freedoms in exchange for short-term gains and security is a possible future where your enemy gains or hijacks your level of authority (like compulsory speech), then turns around and uses it against you.
About the game itself.. I don't think a few woke side quests necessarily make it a bad game. As long as the main story/quest is good and it's fun to play, I'd still give it a chance (if/when I have the time). I have a huge backlog. I'd at least want to play through the earlier games in the series first.

Or like a corporate (DEI) compliance training/video, something I have to do yearly. From a purely grammar perspective, the use of they/them is confusing because it also means you're referring to a group of ppl, rather than an individual. Probably better to just use nouns (the person's name) rather than pronouns, when referring to another individual in the 3rd person. Example: Instead of saying "she's over there" or "they's over there," you could just say "It's Pat over there." If you didn't catch the "Pat" reference, it's from old SNL transphobe humor. I'm surprised they haven't scrubbed it from the internet yet.

It would have zero effect on anyone living in the US. Also nobody was going to jail because of pronouns. Someone tried to put that on his wikipedia page, that he was stopping people going to jail by hurting trans peoples feeling, when going to jail was never on the table. In the end years later after the smoke has cleared he is just another right wing grifter and a drug addict. Unlike Rush Limbaugh, whose addiction was so strong he lost his hearing, I don't think Peterson ever said that all drug addicts should be shot or sent to jail for life, despite being one himself. Imagine walking up to a black person at work and being like "Hey nword whats going on!" and when they get offended saying "Hey the Founding Fathers would never support modifying your speech for short term gains in security! Thats just what I call black people, don't trample my first amendment!" Imagine doing that and looking at yourself as some kind of "hero defending the constitution" The whole issue with pronouns is about not being a dick, thats all.

I'm in the middle of playing The Final Draft of Alan Wake 2, I managed to glitch the game out to the point that I had to reload an old save. I spent a good 20 minutes stuck in this tiny area, and verified I could not backtrack, there was no way to go back the way I came, even tried maybe glitching through the walls or something. Anyway I reloaded my game and I was supposed to pick up a flashlight right before that section, and the wall closes behind you. I guess they didn't count on someone no picking up the flashlight at that scene. I haven't seen the ending for Final Draft but here is what I am guessing needs to happen in Control 2: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}Alan Wake is fare too dangerous with his writing, he can remake reality, have people die and come back to life, all kinds of crazy stuff. One person shouldn't have this much power.
I think Jesse from Control is going to try and kill him and Alan Wake will agree he should die, then Scratch will "take control" as the song lyrics go and refuse to die. Scratch will somehow become super-powered. He will write a story where he becomes Jesse's equal in powers. Jesse with the aid of Polaris will manage to kill Scratch and so then Alan/Scratch will die at the same time.
I could be way off base.
Also one thing I didn't notice my first playthrough is when you meet Tom Zane the first time the lyrics of the song are like "I'm crazy I'm a psycho I'm a psycho" like I don't remember another game cramming it in your face so hard that someone has mental health issues.

They passed a law there where he'd lose his job and he'd never be allowed to teach again unless he used they/them pronouns when speaking to or about trans students. They suggest the same where I work in compliance/training videos, but they wouldn't be able to fire people over it because we have First Amendment rights in the US.

Well, there are exceptions to the First Amendment. The nword has been classified as hate speech, so saying it can have consequences (unless you're a powerful Democrat).
In any case, it'd be extremely tough to reclassify him/her as hate speech because these words have been around since perhaps the dawn of speech and are used on the daily.

I highly doubt anybody here, including ForReal, asks people who they meet for the first time what their gender is. That's the dick thing about misgendering. They typically don't self identify until after the "offensive" situation happens. Only about 0.07% of the population is trans, so if you ask every new person you meet what their gender identity is (the other 99.93%), they would be offended you didn't just know what it is based on their appearance. It's identity politics creating an absurd, unrealisitic expectation.
JP said he'd use them/their pronouns when students personally asked him to do this. The Canadian law expected him to know or ask students, without the students being first to self-identify.
