My state of NJ nearest to one of the largest outbreak areas (New York) is currently on lock down. As of yesterday 5 confirmed cases in my county popped up. I went hiking Saturday on the Appalachian trail and passed about 20 people on some tight sections mostly out of towner sight seerers so now I'm paranoid I got contaminated, lol. I had a feeling 2020 was going to be a bad year, but I didn't think this bad, lol. Is my future looking brighter by the minute? They say we're about four weeks behind Italy? Noice.... Can't wait for the real fun to begin'th...
2019, like one of the best years ever (for me). Both financially and the amount of fun I had.
2020, only a flat out nuclear war seems like a only possible worse case scenario to the start to a new year, lol.
My first concert would of been last Monday. The entire remaining Supercross season has been cancelled (the only thing I watch on TV). My local store shelves have been empty for the past couple weeks from all the panic shopping and I haven't been able to buy any bottled water in two weeks now (thankfully I'm always ahead of the game anyway and still have water I bought three weeks ago, but by the end of this week I'll be out or close to out) Up to a 14 day incubation period with no symptoms where it can still spread.
Being on state lockdown means potentially no work for me for a while. I've already been laid off for the winter so this sucks as I would normally be getting back to work between now and the first of April. Yea, I have some money set aside for situations like this but that $1000 check the government is supposed to hand everyone isn't going to cut it (with astronomical costs of just housing these days, $1000 is the new $100) and I've used half of my years unemployment benefits already over the winter.
Everything that could possibly be going wrong is going wrong at the wrong time. I don't even feel like getting nekkid on the webcam with Russian lolitas I'm so stressed out right now lol.
What's your guys professional opinion on the Corona Virus? Anyone else having fun yet? Since all these pandemics seem to stem from China, should all the countries just band together and nuke them out, eliminate the problem at the source? Fuck it, I say we do it...lol.

The 2008 financial crisis sucked for me. I had just moved to Arizona and it was the hardest hit state by the recession. I learned those lessons well and have worked on saving money since then.
That is the reason I don't own a Tesla or a BMW like all of my coworkers. I am happy with my 2006. My company says they are in excellent financial shape and they made it through 2008 without laying off a single employee so I am hopeful
Even if I got let go I can afford to live for well over a year with zero income. That financial security makes me feel a lot better then a new car would.

Can't say I haven't been looking forward to seeing those crazy 'Muricans react to the inevitable Corona-craze. I'm waiting for the first in-store toilet paper gunfight... Over here it's been quite calm. Wife and kids have started their 2nd week of lockdown (wife teaches, which she has been doing through online videos and tasks), kids have been doing their respective school tasks and a lot of online gaming. Where I work has gone into partial economic unemployment since this week, but of course I'm not one of the lucky ones that gets a week off Looks to me like it's also more out of health concerns than lack of work. Just limiting the amount of people per square meter, which is a requirement by law nowadays. Wife has been going to the store the past weeks. There's the occasional empty shelf, but lately even that has started to even out now that the biggest crazies have their apocalyptic stocks completed. I live in a quiet town, that certainly helps, but overall I feel the rather laid back Belgians are reacting appropriately. There's the occasional nutcase, but certainly nothing worth reporting... I guess living in a socialist paradise with universal health care and actual unemployment benefits is looking mightily appealing to some Americans right about now

The bulk of it in my country is right next door to me, I feel safe and secured. lol. I always said how I hate NY, not upstate NY, love upstate NY, but that damned God forsaken trash hole of a city, NYC. Wish it would disappear along with China, lol.

It's like you read my mind. I've had similar thoughts about China recently. Nuke 'em. lol
But seriously, somebody needs to shut down their unsanitary street meat markets and trading of exotic animal meats & products.
I've read one comment that said researchers have found that C-19 shares some proteins with HIV, which is unheard of for Corona virus. Perhaps a rumor/conspiracy theory, but I really wouldn't put it past their Communist regime (which has a terrible human rights record against its own people, even to this day). China (govt) better not be engineering bio-weapons. Our scientists have the tech to reverse sequence RNA/DNA and compare it to other viruses, so they'll know if these things are being engineered and spliced to create FrankenVirus. Albeit, our govt would probably keep its knowledge of China's clandestine weapons projects secret to avoid greater panic and mass prejudice against Chinese ppl.

I guess living in a socialist paradise with universal health care and actual unemployment benefits is looking mightily appealing to some Americans right about now TP shelves were empty at every store I went to today (Sam's Club, Walmart, Target). Not that I've run out, but I was checking because my parents were out and couldn't find any (in another state). Canned goods and meat depts are mostly empty. Target had some canned food products, probably because they limit it to 8 per customer (signs posted on the shelves). Yeah, I know they're owned by the French and I shouldn't expect American owned companies to implement sensible, long-term planning like that. We're increasingly a country of haves and have nots. This is not a dis against Europe, but there are vastly more rich people here in the U.S. (with larger properties, homes, and deep wallets). Because of this, the hoarding can and probably will go on much longer in the U.S. (at the expense of the poor & needy, of course).

You know, China's economy was hurting for a while before this and still is.
This virus could very well reset the playing field for China (4 years earlier than otherwise). If it causes the economy to tank, Trump might actually lose re-election. With another president who cancels all the tariffs on China, China's economy booms once more (assuming a vaccine is created, which I think the experts expect to happen in 12-18 months).

Just a FYI, PornHub (renamed stayhomehub, lol), SlingTv, and NBC sports gold is now free due to the virus outbreak. I'm surprised it was a female who posted the free pornhub on her facebook newsfeed. I'm so porned out from being online since 1999 I don't even really care or look at porn anymore, lol.

Weekly unemployment payment caps are being increased by $600 as well plus a added 13 weeks on top of the normal limit and people that otherwise couldn't collect unemployment (small business owners) will (should) now be able to collect.

What's truly "toxic" in our society is the attention seeking behavior and the role that social media has in amplifying it.

I have a family member in the hospital with all the symptoms, and they aren't doing well. I'm thankful I still have a job for now and some money in the bank, and that my parents seem to be taking it seriously now. Shit's getting real.
Here's hoping we all make it through this healthy and with some money left. If any of you bastiges don't make it, I'll never speak to you again! <3

I really feel sorry for most of you right now, being Americans and all. I mean, you can't help it, but maybe next time there's an idea for some sort of centralised health care maybe don't vote against your best interests for once... ..also, don't vote for the crazy person again.

btw, the DNC has yet to nominate a presidential candidate who supports the single payer national health system. I suspect that they'll continue giving voters candidates that double down on the for-profit system, like what Obamacare gave us.

Obamacare came from right wing think tanks as an alternative to single payer healthcare. It was put into practice under Romney as a trial run. Was never a left wing politic idea to begin with. We haven't had any forum of real leftist politics in this country since the 1980s. I remember people screaming liberal at Clinton for 8 years but he has always run as a centrist.

The Democratic Primary debates are a forum for leftist politics. These events get massive press coverage & nationally televised. Just sayin' I meant form. Not forum. That's because the "right vs. left" politics is mostly propaganda and a facade to cover the elites' structuring the entire socioeconomic system to meet their desires. They sow propaganda (mostly through the media that they own & control), which results in bickering & division within the underclasses, thereby preventing any major changes or progress (i.e. maintain the status quo and funneling of wealth from bottom to top).

Unfortunately, a universal healthcare system is impossible at the moment. Look at the ACA. Trump is trying to let it wither and die, and most Republicans are cool with that. If you ask citizens, "Do you support Medicare for all?" a majority say yes, but if you start asking if they like the details of it like having their current insurance replaced, most say no, as believe it or not, most people in the US who have insurance are actually happy enough with it. Having a lot of people potentially losing their jobs in the private insurance industry is also unpopular. What's much more likely to happen is that someday, a public option is introduced like Obama originally wanted. If they do it right, more and more people will choose it until it has majority support. Then, a universal or hybrid system could get more support. That will take time. What really pisses me off about this election cycle, especially with the pandemic going on, are these goddamn leftists who won't vote for Biden in the general, because he's a capitalist, therefore he's just as bad as Trump. They believe that somehow, letting Trump win again would teach everyone else a lesson. They called Pete Buttigeg a "rat fuck," said he wasn't a "real gay," and called Warren the nickname Trump gave her, "Pocahontas." They are now saying they hope Biden gets another aneurysm. All of these douche-bags are wealthy white people living in nice homes with great health insurance. Fucking grifters.

I'm of the opinion that Biden will lose to Trump but Sanders would win. Biden looks weak compared to Trump but Sanders doesn't. In my opinion the Democratic establishment would rather have Trump in the white house then Sanders. They know Sanders could beat Trump and an actual leftist in the white house scares them.

All of these douche-bags are wealthy white people living in nice homes with great health insurance. Fucking grifters. Why does everything have to be black & white, good or bad in today's polarized society? In place of nuance and critical thinking, we have mostly apathy. smh Capitalism is good in many situations (if done right w/ govt regs to allow the little guys to compete and prevent monopolies from taking over, as well as regs to limit environmental destruction). Health care is a unique market though, so I agree that massive changes need to made in this sector in the U.S. People are willing to pay anything to live and be healthy, therefore, the demand is fixed/inelastic. This leads to price gouging, negating the usual benefits of free markets. Also, there's a middle-man taking a big cut of profits with the insurance companies, further driving up prices. imo, where the left fucks up on health care is with the feminist, body (fat) positive movement. i.e. telling women it's not just ok to be fat, but they can be proud of it too! The people spewing this nonsense are science deniers because obesity has been linked to increased risk of cancers, diabetes, immune disorders/arthritis, etc, etc. That's just as bad as insurance companies as far as raising health care costs because, by having more people with these conditions, we're vastly increasing the amount health care services needed. The U.S. is already the obesity capital of the world, so we could do without the media & feminism lying to women.

Can't say I haven't been looking forward to seeing those crazy 'Muricans react to the inevitable Corona-craze. I'm waiting for the first in-store toilet paper gunfight... TP and sanitizing products were still sold out today. Americans have the scarcity mindset (i.e. weak-minded consume hoard mentally & still believe the world is ending). Luckily, I kinda sensed something like this was going to happen and I bought one of those oversized packs of TP at Sam's Club some weeks before the mass hysteria ensued. I have enough TP to last for months. lol

In my opinion the Democratic establishment would rather have Trump in the white house then Sanders. They know Sanders could beat Trump and an actual leftist in the white house scares them. I don't think they do believe Sanders can win. I actually question it as well. In order to get to that hypothetical, we would have to assume voters prefer Sanders to Biden, but that just doesn't seem to be the case. Biden is CRUSHING him. He got more voter turnout than expected and beat him in states Bernie won last time around. He didn't even spend as much as Bernie did. In many states, he spent less than $6,000! Bernie spent more, Bloomberg spent more, Steyer spent more, but here we are with Biden. All based on the people's votes. This shows how horrible a candidate Hillary really was. Sure, Biden has slips of the tongue due to his stuttering problem, and he has his senior moments, but he seems to have more backing then both Bernie and Hillary. Trump is fucking crazy, and he won. Maybe a little bit of Biden's crazy could help him during debates. Who knows? I certainly wouldn't count him out though. However, The Democrats have been willing twice now to move to the left thanks to Sanders. They would definitely back Sanders if he did win the primaries. I guarantee they don't want another 4 years of Donnie Dipshit. They can't get anything done right now. With Bernie or Warren, it wouldn't always be easy to agree on policy, but they could get stuff done, especially if they somehow flipped the senate. Right now with the Republicans in the presidency and the senate, the only thing they can do is sit there with their dicks in their hands while President Fuckwit gets a bunch of CEO's to deep-tongue his asshole on a daily basis.
