Ah yes, straight white men, the only group out there you can still discriminate against without any problems... It's not only discrimination against white men. The U.S. is becoming increasingly divisive along so many other lines, politically and culturally. Even the lesbians and feminists, while pushing that men should be willing to date trannies (and if they aren't, they are transphobes), are telling (biologically male) trannies that they shouldn't assert they have a right to date lesbians. This phenomenon is being referred to as intersectionality and the "left eating its own." With increasing unemployment, due to automation, AI, and the neo-liberal policy of bringing over migrant workers in droves, people will become more & more desperate. Most people seem oblivious to the dangers of such hatred & divisiveness, but some of us can see the stage being set for another Civil War. If things get much worse, I'll flee to another country and watch the U.S. burn from safe distance. I already have a job that allows me to work from anywhere in the world, so I'm set.  |

That cafe wasn't actually in the USA tho. That's good (good for us I mean, not them), but this isn't the first I've heard about these sort of taxes (being considered in the U.S.). It's been talked about for a while, still is, and many ppl consider it viable policy. I think Sandman has a good explanation for the problems in the west. Basically, it's decadence & rampant consumerism. We live under a cultural & political system that discourages population growth, and that has the potential to create economic problems (fewer consumers and debt to support the house of cards banking system). So the powers that be try & counter that by supporting mass migration, despite that there's really no shortage of labor in the workforce. What they don't seem to get is that we need more jobs and higher paying jobs, if they truly want to ramp up consumerism.

Back before I graduated college and I worked in retail, I knew several guys who had degrees in Computer Science and couldn't find work in IT.
Since graduating and entering the IT field, I've interviewed with enough companies to understand what's going on. After jumping through the hoops for many HR depts, I've aced many competency tests and impressed their IT staffs. Yet, I didn't get job offers from these companies that have applicants jump through so many hoops. The sad reality is that they have to interview X number of domestic applicants and document it, before the government will grant them permission to hand out more H1B visas. To put it simply, they're after that cheaper labor.
Also, I read if the H1B visa worker makes noise or demands more money, the company simply refuses to renew their work visa, they get shipped back to their country of origin, and are easily replaced by another.
