It'd be the bomb, figuratively speaking, if they made an R-rated horror scifi movie of Metroid.. like that 1950's Metroid (AI generated) scifi trailer, but with a plot and script. I guess Hollywood has less imagination than AI these days.

They say Eli Roth (the director) is great at making horror type films, but not so much at making action type films. Also his movies tend to be R rated but they made Borderland PG-13, was reading it was because the studio wanted kids who enjoyed the games to also be able to watch the movie. Did they forget that Borderlands games are all M-rated? The (other) mistake in that thinking is they're assuming most American parents are responsible and monitor their kids' content consumption, which isn't true. Most likely, more kids would've watched it had they made it R-rated.

Death's Game - Episodes 7-8 (Download): And here I was wondering if they were going to be able to stick the landing... ...they not only stuck the landing, but they ended it so incredibly perfectly, I get a lump in my throat just thinking about it. This was an amazing series that did everything right.
The Devil's Advocate (Bluray): Another blast from the past, a movie I never even had on DVD so you know it's been a long time since I saw it. Just like Extreme Measures (incidentally written by the same guy), I knew the finale of it really well from samples used in another Velvet Acid Christ song. Guess Tony Gilroy is really good in writing quotable finale speeches, heh...
Get the Gringo (Bluray): A Mel Gibson movie, one of the few he did after being blackballed for a while by the 'Jews', where he's stuck in a Mexican prison that's run like a shanty town and he has to figure out the power dynamics to try and escape. Decent enough though nothing special. German bluray got an 18 rating so I expected a little more than I got in the violence department... ...must've been for the 10y old smoking, lol...

Trap (Theater): I wanted to see this in the theater and it actually came out in early August but I completely spaced it. Finally saw it today. Caught a matinee so I didn't have to pay full price if it was crap. The first 3/4ths of the movie is entertaining, and requires a lot of suspension of disbelief like many films but at least its logical. The last 1/4th gets increasingly unbelievable. I was looking forward to the plot twist but for this movie Red Herrings and Deus Ex Machina's are the big thing. One thing I really don't understand: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}How the fuck do you build a secret tunnel in the middle of your house that leads to the neighbors and neither your wife nor kids notice? Like how is that even possible? The amount of earth to move/dispose of for one thing. That is a huge expensive job for a professional crew let alone one guy Its like Shyamalan is trying to one up his "plot twists" that made people gasp in the theater for The Sixth Sense but is just becoming more unrealistic and ridiculous. I mean pretty soon the main character in one of his movies is going to turn out to know magic or something.

Dirty Harry (Bluray): What a blast from the past. Must've been at least 30 years since I saw this one but it kinda ruled. I remembered some stuff, but not how overtly racist the characters were and that shootout in the beginning, lol. White cop guns down 3 black guys (granted, they were robbing the bank) in the middle of the street with a .45 magnum and the cop leaves the scene smirking, rofl. Bluray quality was top notch as well, considering the age of the movie.
Cape Fear (Bluray): Another 'classic" but not one I appreciated as much. I mean, it's fine, with some amazing scenes, but the overall story left me kinda cold. The slow terror and gaslighting was nice, but then it still just ends in all-out assault, which is kind of against type for the character that had been built up until then.
Longlegs (Download): Heh, I can see so many people hating this movie if they fell for the hype. "Scariest, more like boringest movie ever!" I liked it though. It's got that weirdness, that unsettling atmosphere that has you expecting scares that may or may not come... ...wait, was that a demon in the window... ...it was. There's tons of little hints and apparitions throughout and then there's Nic Cage, who I remembered to be in the movie but it took a while until I realised who he was playing and I couldn't believe I'd missed it up to that point. Almost feels like a sequel to Oz Perkins earlier movie February/The Blackcoat's Daughter...
The Hangover (Bluray): I'd never seen the sequels and a 3-movie boxset for €10 was too good to pass up so I figured what the hell. It's never been my favorite movie, I'd even go as far as to say I like every other Todd Philips movie better, but it's certainly amusing. From what I remembered from Half in the Bag reviews, the sequels are much, much darker in tone...

The Call (Download): Korean suspense horror flick with a time travel dynamic that came recommended to me and which I'd been watching for 55 minutes when all of a sudden I saw something I vagualy remembered and started wondering if I have might already seen this movie... ...I did, back in 2020, doh! Completely forgot everything about this movie. Luckily this time I knew to switch the movie off at the credits because a post-credits scene spoiled an otherwise really good movie.
The Hangover: Part II (Bluray): More of the same, just in Thailand this time around. Amusing enough.
Oddity (Download): New horror flick by the guy that did Caveat, a little horror flick I rather liked, and the same goes for this one. Creepy all the way through with a couple of effective jump scares as well.

Straw Dogs (1971): I have a list of movies I've been meaning to watch for years, 15 minutes into this movie I realize I had already seen it. Searched this forum and I already posted about it in 2021 during COVID lockdown..........lol. I don't know why I forgot I've already seen it. There is a 2011 remake I should check it. Crazy violent and extreme for its time. One thing I don't get is the main character orders Scotch on the rocks, a perfectly valid drink, and the English rednecks in the movie laugh at him. In England do the rednecks there think beer is the only acceptable drink? I realize its just a movie not a documentary but didn't notice the first time I watched it. Solid movie.

Time Bandits - Season 1 (Download): Watchable but too long and too silly to really be any competition for the movie version. Despite having some fun moments and good FX bits here and there, it never comes close to the charm of the original due to extended silliness that most of the time goes on for too long. Didn't mind watching it to the end but don't see myself ever revisiting it either.

Borderlands (Download): I don't quite get why it's being treated so harshly. Sure, it's not a great movie, but it certainly isn't awful either. It's technically and visually certainly not badly done but it is miscast. It's been a while since I played (the first) game, but I recognised plenty of stuff in it. It's mediocre at best, but it's being slammed relentlessly as if it's the worst movie ever and I'd say that's not the case at all. I found it a lot more watchable than I was led to believe.
Trap (Download): The new Shyamalan doesn't quite live up to its premise and especially in the final part it kinda runs out of steam completely. I've liked most of his movies but I'd put this in the lower echelon, but still above the Visit, which I didn't like at all...
Sting (Download): Creature feature by the director from Wyrmwood but a lot more professional looking than those zombie-shenanigans (which really are a lot of fun). This is about a spider from space wreaking havoc in a New York brownstone. It starts slowly, introducing the characters and goes all out at the end with pretty decent CG and live-action creature action. The child actress that plays the lead is really good actually...

Longlegs: Watched this last week. With people saying "its the scariest horror film in the last 10 years" no way it could live up to the hype. Hereditary was a much better and scarier movie which was another massive hype machine flick. Longlegs himself reminds me of Joker 2019 in that he doesn't seem very physically imposing at all and just looks creepy. Like your average fit male could beat the hell out of him with little effort, he isn't strong at all mental/magical/spiritual. They have the creepy old man vibe down very well with him. I noticed a bunch of the "hidden" things in the screen but I don't think I saw every single ones. Apparently there is hidden stuff in the audio but I didn't really notice anything, I will need to watch a video that shows where its at. I watched this with a friend on Discord, and I pointed this out: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}When Lee was introduced to Agent Carter's family near the beginning of the film and they spent a TON of time on that scene I told my friend "Either Lee or Longlegs or Carter or someone is going to kill this whole family or something like that"
I didn't realize that would be the actual climax of the film in Carter's house Some review said it seemed like an "AI Generated horror movie" where they took all of the main elements of big horror franchises from the last 30 years and put a little of this and a little of that. Like with the rise of Annabelle you gotta have a creepy doll doncha? Decent movie but again nothing can live up to the insane hype

Napoleon - Director's Cut (Download): Never bothered watching the original release because I knew there was a director's cut in the pipeline and I've learned from 'Kingdom of Heaven' this might be worth the wait. I'm gonna say this: if I had watched the theatrical, I wouldn't have bothered with an even longer version. It was fine in such a way that a Ridley Scott movie will always look amazing but I can't say I cared about anything or anyone in it a great deal. Joaquin Phoenix is great as always, but I felt the movie was a bit too fragmented. Maybe they should've focused more on a single aspect instead of trying to tell the whole story. The Hangover III (Bluray): While this is the least liked of the series, I probably laughed out loud the most and the hardest with this episode. Last Man Standing (Bluray): Great looking, very violent, very dusty remake of Yojimbo/A Fistful of Dollars, set in the 1930s. Despite it being about 1930s gangsters, and era and a subject matter I rarely care about, I've always liked this movie. Edit: There's an actor in it with a very peculiar name: www.imdb.com/name/nm1807200/

Pretty much my thoughts on Borderlands, didn't hate it and didn't really see what everyone is tearing it to shreds about. Wasn't bad but wasn't great either but one thing is for sure, the cast gave it their all and did a great job with what they had. Also the action sequences and shootouts reminded me of the games.

Suicide Squad Isekai (Download): So the Suicide Squad anime basically, which interested me enough to give it a go. It was OK. The characters were all neatly designed and voiced (in Japanese) but I can't say I was a huge fan of the Isekai part. That's an entire subgenre in anime right now that I tend to steer clear of, it's when characters from our world go to 'another world', usually a fantasy type setting, which was also the case here. So they have to contend with magic and dragons and shit. The fights were all visually pleasing but in the end I still can't say I care about the whole Isekai angle all that much.

Btw that Rick & Morty Anime show on HBO is kinda cool, though I've only seen the first episode. It's like a whole other take on R&M and done in another style.
Wish I could say the same for that Terminator anime show on Netflix, did not enjoy that one. Just dull and weird.

Heh...
Terminator Zero (Download): Pretty fantastic anime series that stays true to the lore (and the look) of the (classic) Terminator movies with enough classic Terminator action (robot from the future followed by resistance member) but also introduces a completely new twist in the form of another AI that the creator hopes can combat Skynet but will it? I loved just about everything in it, from the looks (lots of hard contrast shadows and highlighting, which I love in anime) to the story and how it unfolds. Plenty of Terminator/human showdowns but also a more philosophical look at the entire concept of the destruction of mankind. Judging by Coolverine's post right above, I guess it isn't for everyone but it sure did the trick for me...
Funny he does like the Rick and Morty anime because that is getting completely trashed on the imdb, lol. I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes before I decided to hold off until the entire series is complete because unlike classic R&M it's a season long story arc instead of just episodes and I want to experience the Japanese weirdness without having to wait a week and forget everything in the meantime because it is hella confusing and weird, but so far I liked what I saw, just want to see it with less interruptions...

Rebel Ridge (Download): I'd originally planned to start to night with another movie but then a new Jeremy Saulnier flick dropped and everything else had to wait. I went in completely blind but did notice some similarities to some other movie right away and I wasn't surprised to find out some people were comparing this to Rambo... ...the same people who then proceeded to slam the movie for being nothing like Rambo after all, lol, the internet. It's another strong effort by Saulnier to take a familiar concept but never take the obvious choice to develop the plotlines so you're always left with something more than the sum of its parts. Well shot, well acted and well done all around.
Greedy People (Download): I then put on the Chinese movie Star Abyss which promised creature feature space action but rather quickly put me to sleep with its slick visuals and confusing mishmash of characters and plots. So after wasting an hour to eventually watch 30 minutes of movie and not seeing it improve, I skimmed through it, saw nothing worth checking out and shut it off. I then went to Greedy People, a movie I'd been pushing along for a few weeks already, thinking it might not be worth it. I was wrong, it quickly sucked me in with its quirky dark comedy crime plot than was reminiscent of the Coen Brothers. A crime comedy of errors than escalates into violence and ends way darker than it begins but I really dug it. Joseph Gordon Levitt is really good as the hustling small town cop that has to work in his new partner when shenanigans ensue...
A Quiet Place: Day One (Download): Another one I kinda dreaded watching once I found out it wasn't a continuation but rather a reset with different characters and again I was wrong. I really dug it. Dropping unstoppable sound sensitive monsters in the middle of one of the loudest and most populated places in the US was a nice twist. Ok, so you don't learn anything new and the story is completely self-contained, but it's all done really well. If the original movies had never existed this one would have been received much better...

Miller's Crossing (Bluray): One of the earlier and more serious Coen movies, with great character actors all around, a lot of whom have already passed on. Solid movie with a solid story that even someone who doesn't particulary care about the era or this type of gangster movie can really appreciate...
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (Download): I've seen this movie on VHS, DVD, a downloaded HD version and Bluray but what I'd never seen was this movie in Japanese. So far every single version of this movie I've seen or owned has been the English dub, which I've really liked, especially the voice acting for the vampire, but when a Japanese version (which I wasn't even aware existed since I'd never encountered it) came across my path, I knew I had to jump on it right away. It quickly dawned on me, as I started watching, I also needed to find subtitles that translated the Japanese lines because the ones it came with were just dub titles, something that was very apparent right away since the English dubs tend to have a lot more off-screen dialogue, which translates to subtitles on screen when nobody is speaking in the Japanese version, lol. Annoying. Luckily I found some right away and yes, they tell a littlebit of a different story in some places and the demon in D's hand isn't quite as comical. The movie remains one of my absolute favorite anime and I'm afraid I'll never be able to rewatch the English version now, same with some other anime I used to love in English, until I got to watch them in Japanese...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice(Theater): In the first movie Beetlejuice was a crazy hyper manic character. Michael Keaton has aged a LOT since the 1980s, and Beetlejuice is a much slower character this time around. Its a decent enough outing but not as good as the first movie. They did get the lighting/atmosphere down very well. They also tried to limit the amount of CGI and use practical effects. If the first was an 8/10 this was a 6.5/10

As for Terminator Zero, I'll give it another go.
*edit* Terminator Zero isn't bad but I'm still finding it boring tbh but the animation/art is good.
As for the R&M anime, seems like the main thing people are complaining about is that the story is not the same as the original show and all the voice actors are different. Also people are complaining about the animation a lot, that it looks ugly and simplistic which I guess it is, but did they forget the animation in the original R&M is really nothing special either?

Space Sweepers (Download): I guess I completely missed this movie the first time around because it's already from 2021 but I'm glad I discovered it eventually because this Korean space adventure is actually really good. Much like Guardians of the Galaxy, a ragtag band of space garbage men (and women), with a past, come into possession of a girl that's worth a lot of money and then the adventure starts. Amazing CGI, good action set pieces and plenty of humor. After the debacle that was Star Abyss last week, I was kind of dreading this one, but I'm glad it all worked out...
Sand Land (Download): Anime based on a manga by the guy from Dragon Ball that recently passed away. It's a colorful adventure in a clean cell-shaded style that's a lot of fun all the way through. It's been followed up by a series that I might start watching...
Officer Black Belt (Download): Dumb title for a pretty decent Korean action flick about a guy that starts working for department that monitors perps that have been released with ankle bracelets. Start off with some comedic moments but gradually becomes more serious and brutal as the plot thickens and the stakes increase. Surprisingly good flick.
Nope (Bluray): One of my favorite movies of the past years, basically an alien creature feature, but not unlike one of the better Shyamalan movies with a certain atmosphere that's always just off from what you'd expect and I like that.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Story (Bluray): Maybe not as jaw-droppingly awesome as Fury Road, it nevertheless is a great action movie with some amazing set pieces.
No One Will Save You (Download): Nope reminded me to rewatch this flick. Another alien creature feature and a different twist on an invasion movie. Would love to buy this on bluray but doesn't seem like it's going to happen. This movie literally has 2 spoken lines in the entire movie but you never miss the dialogue and the creatures, while all being greys are very varied and original. Great little movie.

The Batman (Bluray): With the Pengiun TV-show coming out, I figured it was a good time to revisit the movie it's following up and boy, am I glad that I did because I remembered almost nothing about it even though I've already seen it twice before.
Assault! Jack the Ripper (Download): Japanese pinku that apparently has a bit of a reputation but I can't say it was that great in any way except for how well these types of movies get restored. Flawless image quality for a 1976 softcore horror porn, better than a bunch of big budget Hollywood movies half that age. It's all about a couple getting excited after accidentally killing a girl and them seeing if they can replicate the feeling after which the guy starts going completely nuts and starts getting a kick of insta-kill knifing women in the vag. What it's about is more shocking than what you get to see though, which is a shame...
Deepstar Six (Bluray): Can't believe this movie only sits at 5.3 on IMDB. I've always kinda loved this movie and I've seen it so many times back in college when I only had so many movies (on VHS) but what I can't say I ever noticed (in SD) was the amount of erect nipples on display. Pointier than the monster's teeth. Holds up well enough despite being not that high budget.
The Penguin - Episode 1 (Download): Promising start but really glad I made the effort to rewatch the Batman first because it really picks up right after that movie ends. I tried really hard to recognise anything Colin Farrell in the performance and the look of the character but it's impossible.
The Firm (Bluray): Solid legal thriller with great performances and a welcome rewatch. One of those movies that looked worse than the Pinku I mentioned earlier despite being so much more well known and expensive...
The Emu War (Download): I then gave up on a movie called 'The Lonely Man with the Ghost Machine' after 10-15 minutes and instead went with this Australian silliness that was pretty funny in parts while being complete nonsense all the way through about a war between people and literal emu, with guns. Did I say it was complete silly nonsense? But at least it wasn as slow and boring as the movie I switched off.
Body Parts (Download): Korean horror anthology that outstayed its welcome and felt like it was at least twice as long as it actually was. The few good parts eventually got dwarved by too much clutter and inexplicable stuff (even for a ghost horror). Shame because I wanted to like it...
Twilight of the Gods - Episodes 1-2 (Download): Not enough time for another movie made me start this new animated Netflix series that starts off quite strong with bloody action and nice looking animation. I'll be finishing this somewhere this week...

Twilight of the Gods - Season 1 (Download): This was actually a pretty great show. Loved the art-style, which wasn't anime but also wasn't your typical run-of-the-mill American animation (or US anime-imitation). Looked very European or like an indie game. I really dug it. As for the story, that was nice too. Amazing how much of the lore I picked up from just watching the Marvel movies. Ok, so the gods (and Thor in particular) were mostly the bad guys in this, but so many character names and relations between the characters I already was aware of just from the MCU. Was also surprisingly violent. Like I said, I really dug it...
Snowpiercer - Season 4 (Download): Clearly one season too many, though thankfully the last one. Between the beginning of this season and the end almost nothing has changed. Oh, a bunch of stuff happened but apart from certain characters dying, everything remained as it was, so all of it was kinda pointless. The single most inexplicable thing also happened in the final episode. All of a sudden under a 1000 carriages of a miles long train tank threads sprouted and the entire train could go off track and onto a frozen lake. ROFLMAO! When and where did they get the materials to build all that and then mount it on a moving train in temperatures that cause you to freeze solid in seconds and also just works without having been tested? Too silly...

The Outpost - Still one of my favorite war movies ever right up there with Saving Private Ryan and 1917, decided to put it on. Just feels like a very accurate and realistic war movie, never goes over the top with the action or musical score and stays believable. From what I've read, they were pretty accurate with the story (Battle of Kamdesh) and people who were actually there were in the movie and served as consultants as well.

Edge of Darkness (DVD/Download): It's been a while since I last saw this but I remembered liking it but I bought the DVD right at the cusp of switching over to HD so it kinda fell to the wayside. Holds up pretty well on rewatch, Gibson is intense and the plot while a bit convoluted keeps you interested to see what comes next.
Wolfs (Download): Starts off stronger than it ends but entertaining movie about 2 Winston Wolf type cleaners that need to work together in a very convoluted plot that nevertheless is entertaining because of the actors involved. Laughed out loud a few times and the scene in which they both try to read the text on a beeper before both reaching for their old man reading glasses I showed to my wife, lol, very recognisable indeed...
Balestra (Download): Promised myself I wouldn't take too many gambles anymore but this looked kinda interesting in the fucked up way in which I like my movies. Lucid dream device to enhance a person's ability to train (the movie is about fencing) with repercussions in the real world. Seemed like an interesting starting off point. After a while though I started wondering where they were going because it seemed like the movie had been running for a while after only then finding out there was still over an hour to go and the runtime was a staggering 2 hours and 25 minutes! I thought I'd seen it be 100-something minutes. Ultimately it wasn't worth it, because of the runtime. It might have been a pretty decent movie at 90 minutes but it just went on for too long with too little to warrant it.
Gretel and Hansel (Bluray): Needing something shorter to finish out the night because I'd misjudged the runtime of the previous movie to the tune of almost an hour; I decided to rewatch Oz Perkins Hansel and Gretel movie and found it to be an atmospheric dark fairy tale that was shot spectacularly well.
Escape from the 21st Century (Download): Energetic Chinese romp that's a bit like Scott Pilgrim with a time travel motive about 3 guys that can go into their 20 years older selves bodies for reasons I won't explain only to find out they're not really who they thought they were going to be and they'll have to fight for the survival of humanity. Never a dull moment or even a breather to be had here. 95 minutes of flashy visuals and hard to follow plot twists that is nevertheless very entertaining...
Oblivion (Bluray): Have been wanting to rewatch this for a while now but I finally reached the point I had no backcatalogue of downloaded movies anymore (plenty of series to watch and rewatch though, but that's another problem) so I could focus my attention on rewatching some stuff I'd wanted to rewatch, this great-looking scifi romp being one of the bigger ones. Visuals are still great all across the board and the story is neat.
Possessor (Uncut) (Bluray): Seeing Andrea Riseborough in Oblivion reminded me of this movie, which I have seen quite a few times already, but it's so great and fucked up, I didn't mind watchin it yet again. One of my favorites the year it was released.
Devil (Bluray): Neat little horror movie about 5 people trapped in a stuck elevator and one of them being the literal devil. Kinda makes up its own rules (you can see producer Shyamalan's hand in that), but it's nevertheless a great little horror flick.
Tormented (Bluray): Seeing (all of) Tuppence Middleton in Possessor reminded me of this movie, her debut feature, about a school kid returning from the grave to get his vengeance on his bullies, with plenty of humor and gore to satisfy my gorehound needs.

Futurama season 12 - All of it's out now, most of the episodes were middling but there were a few that stood out, especially the finale. Hard to imagine how season 13 will pick up after that, was pretty wild what happened. {CLICK FOR SPOILER} The Planet Express ship and crew now appear to be ghosts, traveling through space trying to find home. I have yet to watch The Outpost all the way through but I used to know a guy who served in Iraq and he said Restrepo was by far the most accurate movie he has ever seen about being a US soldier in the middle east.

Hamilton(Live): Finally got around to seeing this, I realize the peak of its virality is long over. I kinda resented this show for a long time. If you had any interest in Hamilton as a person people assumed it was because of this play. Still the theater was packed, no seats available. I know some historians hate this show because of how many inaccuracies and how they try and make Hamilton into a hero for modern audiences. When they said "Immigrants get shit done" the crowd went nuts.
There was one scene that was kinda cheesy dude next to me laughed. Also the very last scene tries really hard to be sad. Over all I liked it alot.
