The Silence of the Lambs (Bluray): Despite this movie's status as a classic, the bluray isn't all that impressive. Why is that? Why didn't this movie get restored in the way some movies have been? It's a solid movie, obviously, but getting to terms with the image quality took a while. It's not that it's bad but surely there must be more definition to be gained from a proper restoration.
The Endless (Bluray): Having rewatched Resolution recently as well, this movie made a lot more sense than when I saw it the first time and as a result I liked it a lot better as well.
Bad Santa 2 (Bluray): Obviously not as good as the first, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this one. There's still enough of the Bad Santa magic left over to save this movie as well. Just don't do it again...

Black Mirror Bandersnatch(Netflix): Cool little interactive movie. Not sure if I went down every single pathway. Sure there are some easter eggs somewhere.

I watched the first episode of Cobra Kai on Youtube, first 2 episodes of season 1 are free. I didn't expect a series that's a sequel to The Karate Kid to be good, but it's actually pretty good. I might sign up for the free trial of Youtube Premium so I can finish watching the rest of them. *edit* Watched all 10 episodes. I liked the whole story with Daniel and Johnny but there's a lot of sappy stuff and family drama in between too that is a little much at times. Also the story gets a little predictable and it's basically a re-telling of the original movie, just modern and with new characters. There is some comedy in it too. Early in the review, he mentions that Season 2 was released today.

Early in the review, he mentions that Season 2 was released today. There's a video from 2015 that explains how Daniel was the real bully in The Karate Kid, and it actually makes a lot of sense: There's even a scene in Cobra Kai that brings it up: It seems the audience was lured into sympathizing for Daniel early on in the movie, by the writer's portraying him as the relatively poor, new kid in town, and down on his luck. From the start, they had us rooting for him to turn things around and succeed in his quest to win the girl (Allie). His bullying actions (showing he's an alpha) would be a necessary part of stealing her away from her boyfriend and courting her. Acting like a dick and showing he's got balls was necessary, otherwise, she's out of his league and she wouldn't give him the time of day. Yeah, I think you could say the writers tricked the audience into taking Daniel's side early, then once hooked on his side, "the ends justify the means" thinking sets in. Thus, most of us probably overlooked his misguided behaviors (before this recent series and being shown the other guy's pov).

The Burrowers (DVD/Download): Always liked this little wild west creature feature about subterranean creatures that stun their prey and bury them alive until their organs have dissolved.

Avengers Endgame(shitty cam): No spoilers, a streaming site I go to said they had this so I caught the first 30 minutes. Nothing amazing happens just building the story. It looks exactly like the last Avengers movie. Was past my bed time anyway so I just turned it off.

Avengers: Endgame (Theatre): A satisfying and emotional conclusion to all the original Avenger storylines. First 2 minutes of the movie and people were already audibly gasping because of what happened on screen. No spoilers but I'm glad there's more to it than just: "...and here's Captain Marvel to straighten it all out."

Great conclusion, I'm also glad the trailers didn't give away too much. For a superhero movie, it was pretty serious and down to earth at times too. {CLICK FOR SPOILER} Lebowski, lol.

I agree with that review, it is a very good show and is full of good throwbacks and references to the original movie, also the continuity is pretty much perfect. The 2nd season makes references to the Karate Kid 2. I just watched the second season recently, it's also good even though it has more teenage and family drama. Something shocking happens in the finale. Johnny and Daniel are still the best part of the show and the story focuses the most on Johnny, it's really about him. The 2nd season finale also hinted that Allie (Elisabeth Shue) will appear in the 3rd season.

Hannibal (Bluray): This is not a good movie. Took me 4 hours to watch these 2 hours and 10 minutes. Fell asleep for about an hour after the first 30 minutes and then once again some time later. Can't believe it's Ridley Scott that's responsible for this. It doesn't even look good and the slapstick ending is just stupid. And even though this movie isn't even that old, the image quality of the bluray was pretty sub par as well.
Child's Play (Bluray): I bought a boxset that has all the movies in it. So far I'd seen only about half of them before. This one, the original, I'd seen of course. It holds up and compared to the much younger and much higher budgeted Hannibal, it looks quite a bit better in HD as well. The puppet is still convincing and Brad Dourif's voice is excellent for the character.
Child's Play 2 (Bluray): This one I seem to remember renting once, way back on VHS, and not particulary liking. Certainly didn't remember any specifics except for the opening. It was actually OK. Typical '80s horror sequel. More of the same just not as good but still not too bad either.
Child's Play 3 (Bluray): Never made it to this one before and very little chance I ever will again. Except for the opening scene this was pretty bad. I remember they tried blaming this movie when those 2 English boys killed that toddler because at one time they poured blue paint on him or something and there's blue paint in this movie. Well, that was farfetched now that I've actually seen the movie. They shoot paint rounds at one time, not even connected to any Chucky kill, that's about it.

Later I met up with some friends at the commons. I said I had gone to see Hannibal, they asked what I thought and I said it was a boring shadow of Silent of the Lambs and only of interest to die hard fans of Hannibal Lecter. All the sudden things got kinda quiet and awkward. Turns out my friends went and saw it previously and they all really enjoyed it and had just been talking about that when I sat down.

I have it on DVD and had seen it before but 1. except for the silly brain eating at the end I didn't remember a single scene from it and 2. I never noticed how badly it was shot. Red Dragon on the other hand I still liked a lot.

Mel Brooks' the History of the World - Part 1 (Bluray): It's good to be the king. It was pretty cheap and it had Dutch subs, unlike my DVD, so I could watch it with the kids. They seemed to enjoy parts of it at least. The wife on the other hand had to comment on how unfunny she found it to be, lol, women and humor. Go back to your romcoms...
Overlord (Bluray): Silly fun with Nazi mutants.
Bride of Chucky (Bluray): Succesful re-birth of the series that's a lot of fun and has Jennifer Tilly's legs, hips and tits in it for extended periods of time.
Happy Death Day 2U (Download): Not quite on par with the first but I did like the fake-out in the beginning. They didn't need to find an explanation for the first movie however, in fact, it kinda makes the first movie worse, so yeah, I'm still not so sure about this one. It wasn't bad, there was a lot to enjoy but at the same time it was completely unnecessary.
I also made a horrible mistake. I recently bought "Searching" en bluray on amazon.de, the German Amazon, where I buy quite a few of my movies nowadays. Turns out even though the bluray does come with the original audio track (why wouldn't it?) it does TRANSLATE ALL THE FUCKING ON-SCREEN TEXT IN GERMAN (or Spanish, I get 2 options). What I don't get however is ENGLISH!!! Who the fuck does that? The entire movie is on computer screens, with all the original programs, but they all are in either German or Spanish. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK!? I've never encountered anything like that. A title card here and there, sure, but the entire movie???

Watchmen (Dir. Cut Bluray): Even though it's one of my favorite movies I'd never bought it on bluray because I was holding out for the ultimate cut but it's become clear they're never ever going to release that outside region A, so the director's cut is the best I can hope for. I have a downloaded version of that cut though and I'm pretty sure next time I'm watching this movie, it'll be that version again. Director's cut is OK but without the Black Freighter animated stuff it doesn't feel as tight as the regular theatrical release does.
Seed of Chucky (Bluray): Where the series went entirely comedy but I can't say I mind. It's all silly nonsense but they know it and they have fun with it.
American Gods - Season 2 (Bluray): Even though I only rewatched this fairly recently, with season 2 having wrapped up earlier this week, I still wanted to refresh my memory before diving into that. It's only 8 episodes so it's not too bad timewise and it's just so great. Visually stunning, all kinds of fucked up, right up my alley in other words. I'm now ready to binge the second season this weekend.

Avengers: Endgame (3d XD): I figured I would kick myself if I didn't watch the biggest movie of all time in the theater. I enjoyed it. There were kids next to me crying at the end. Onto spoilers: {CLICK FOR SPOILER}Since I don't watch many super hero movies I only knew who some of them were through osmosis. I saw Guardians of the Galaxy and a handful of the others tho. Right at the end some chick all glowing red was attacking Thanos and hes like "I don't even know who you are!" Makes two of us Thanos lol. I knew who the Black panther people were just from watching people on Youtube bitch about how overrated that movie is.
I saw the original Iron Man in the theater so was kinda sad watching him die but I'm glad they went that way.

On Netflix they have an extended edition of The Hateful Eight, I think it's exclusive to Netflix but I'm not sure. They made it like a miniseries, there are 4 episodes that are ~50 minutes each and there's a lot of added scenes that show different perspectives during different events throughout the movie. I thought it was pretty good.

I've actually been thinking about canceling Netflix, sometimes an entire week goes by and I don't watch it. They also keep going up on the monthly fee and I haven't seen enough that makes the price hike seem worth it.

My roommate at the time let me use his login and then I cancelled mine to save the $10 or whatever. After I moved out of there I never bothered to sign back up. The UI and and such is a lot slicker then it was back then.

American Gods - Season 2 (Download): While the first season is fantastic, the second is merely good. There are still moments of genius but they are fewer and farther in between. I'd heard about production troubles and yeah, that's very noticable. The entire ending of the first season is completely negated with a single line. All that trouble to get Ostara on board and with a single line she's gone from S2. Anubis is gone, Gillian Anderson is gone as well as Media, but at least they managed to revive the character is a somewhat acceptable and up-to-date fashion by bringing her back as a Korean internet star, New Media. Clever. Not so clever: saving money by cutting locations. Almost half of the series is now set inside the funeral home of Ibis and Anubis (but without Anubis) which makes it seem much smaller scale than the epicness that was the first season. Shame because all this makes it less certain there's still more to come and the story seems far from finished.

Curse of Chucky (Bluray): One of the new ones I'd never seen before. It's more of a back to the basics version, a more atmospheric horror approach compared to the previous 2 where they went for the comedy and that's a bit of a problem. The first hour is really dry. They do try to make it atmospheric but it comes of as somewhat generic. Luckily it does pick up in the later stages with a lot of revelations that I liked quite a bit and then some very surprising twists even after the credits. Not a total loss but you have to make it through the uninteresting beginning.
Next I started and stopped 2 movies. The first was called I'll Take Your Dead, which I turned of after 13 minutes and The Head Hunter, which lasted for 35 minutes. I really tried for that one but I just couldn't make it through, even if that one was just 70 minutes long. I then went on to something I knew I'd love...
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (Bluray): This is more like it. A zombie comedy that's genuinly funny and bloody as all hell. I was thinking of showing to the kids until the pussy eating scene happened, lol.
Nurse 3D (3D Bluray): I'd seen the cover of this movie pass by many times already but I didn't trust it. Yesterday I was choosing 5 movies for €10 and there were slim pickings so this ended up in the pile because it was in 3D so even if it turned out to be bad, at least it would've been bad in 3D. Surprisingly it wasn't awful. It was nonsensical, completely silly, a guy's view on how women see men but at the same time showing sensual female nudity all the time, lol. But it was actually shot in 3D it seems and they tried to make the best use of it in the shot composition and stuff so I found it to be a lot more enjoyable than I had expected.
Cult of Chucky (Bluray): Picks up where Curse left off but unlike that one, where it starts slow and then ramps up near the end, this seems to do the opposite. The cool stuff is at the front and then it slowly peters out towards the end. There was a new dynamic that was interesting, multiple possessed Chucky dolls, but even that couldn't sustain the tension in the boring looking mental institution the entire movie is set in. One thing though: Brad Dourif's daughter looks EXACTLY like him...

The Predator (Theatre): And the quote of the year goes to: Thomas Jane in The Predator for: "Fuck me in the face with an aardvark." I lolled so hard at that one. Maybe it was lowered expectation because of the rather mediocre reviews for this movie, but I liked it, for the most part. The finale was kinda dumb (CGI predator, really?) but up to that point I enjoyed it a lot, especially the humor. Sure, the story makes no sense, the entire reasoning for the preds to be there is dumb, but I can only say I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I am watching this on HBO right now, after seeing the reviews I thought it was gonna be bad but I like it alright so far. Lots of laughs which I didn't expect.

Chernobyl (HBO miniseries) - First episode just premiered last night, it was very good. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but everything I've looked up has been more or less pretty accurate. Soviet Union was in denial about the true extent of the disaster and were lying through their teeth trying to cover up the truth. Or maybe they were just in so much shock, that they refused to believe it.

I have seen a ton of Chernobyl documentaries and such but I never heard that. EDIT: I was wrong looks like someone did kill himself but he wasn't responsible for the disaster: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valery_Legasov
