Hint: It cost more than a cheap prostitute and less than an expensive one, lol. Guess what the newest part of my PC is!

You guys are no fun...lol. Anyway, I got a new gaming keyboard mainly because the most used keys on my wireless Logitech K350's where starting to get crunchy feeling, like say if I didn't press the key directly in the middle and caught the side/edge it would feel very grindy/sticky so I figured what the hell, got a new gaming mouse and monitor, might as well get a decent keyboard as well. Been looking at and testing any and all keyboards on display at various stores and the Corsair K70 caught my attention over the rest and felt like it was the first one actually worth the high cost of the high end gaming keyboards (I though the Razer felt like crap to be honest).
One thing that really caught my attention other than the comfort, feel, and build quality (it's aluminum) is the included and optional WSAD and surrounding keys that are textured, colored, and shaped differently for first person shooters. I also like how it has multimedia keys in which I like having a dedicated volume button on a keyboard to be able to adjust volume quickly.
The Best Buy I seen it on display at didn't have any in stock neither did any nearby Best Buys so I rush at the last minute to Microcenter... But I fucked up, sorta. Getting to Microcenter minutes before they close (I'm a 2hr round trip and it would of sucked to get stuck in traffic or something and not make it before they closed) I rush in, find the shelf with the K70's, grab one, and take it to the cash register. I'm paying as the store is closing but my bill is about $40 cheaper than expected and didn't want to say anything in case they messed up and sold it to me cheaper on accident and corrected it and charged me the normal price. I get home, hook it up, and then realize why it was $40 cheaper than expected. I wasn't aware that there was multiple versions of the same model number. I thought I was getting a RGB multicolor keyboard but the one I got is just illuminated red and you can only dim it and have different shades of red so although I did get the one with the latest iteration of buttons (Cherry MX speed) I didn't get the multicolor RGB.
But it's like, while you're playing something super fast paced like Unreal Tournament, do you really have time to look at the keyboard? Answer = no and I found that I had to dim the keys down quite a bit because I found by default the overly bright keys to be distracting (I like back lit keys, just not super bright and like them dimmed down). But I guess it would be cool to be able to change the color from red. My Razer mouse is RGB but I find I don't even mess with the colors so I don't know if I'm going to bother to return this standard K70 Rapidfire for the more expensive RGB. However after purchasing the standard K70 Rapidfire the RGB model went of sale for $20 cheaper closing the dramatic price gap making it more tempting to go exchange for the one I initially wanted. But I don't know, $30 more + gas and a 2 hour drive just to change key colors when the red dimly lit seems OK enough and you really don't have time to look at the keyboard while in gameplay anyway. Hell, I barely look at the keyboard while outside gaming and even find the effects of this keyboard to be more of one time novelty that I shut off after initially looking at for just a solid lighted setting so I doubt I'll make the drive and swap for the RGB version.
What's your guys professional opinion on the situation? Keep the standard red lit keyboard and put the $30 difference towards a new game or man up and get the keyboard that has the option of infinite colors? My two cell brain gets tongue tied in situations like this, lol.

My laptop has RGB backlit keys with a program I can use to program the regions. I set the color to white and dimmed it. Works for me.

Just make the mouse light red as well and live with it.

Just make the mouse light red as well and live with it. x2 I have a RGB keyboard as well and I have it set to 1 color at all times. Have mine set to dim also (but with slowly pulsating yellow color). However, for low-light environments, they (experts) say that red is the best color because it doesn't cause your pupils to constrict or dilate. Which probably explains why most monochrome keyboards use red. The alternating colors modes are distracting. I don't look directly at my keyboard either when using it, but you can see the flashing colors in your peripheral vision (with the alternating colors).

Something I didn't think about before was the underglow under the key caps that the RGB has that I don't like. I just want the fonts on the key caps illuminated and the RGB's key bases are clear plastic for the purpose of illuminating all around under the key caps where as my non RGB key bases are solid black which creates minimal underglow and only illuminates the fonts (there's very slight underglow from the light reflecting off the backside of the key caps). Someone just asked on the Corsair forums about hiding the underglow on the RGB version here: forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=173947 (forgot I was registered there, all the way back in 2004). I might just stick with this red keyboard. Red and black do look good together.
