After the fall creator's update (Windows 10), sometimes when I start up my PC the start menu won't come up, I can't right click any of my pinned icons (nothing comes up) and funny enough Microsoft Edge doesn't open. Everything in the notification area still works.
I looked up some guides for how to fix it but they either didn't work or required me to create a new profile and move everything over to it. When creating a new profile the start menu looks completely different and I didn't like it, plus it enables Cortana and I couldn't figure out how to turn it off in a new profile anymore.
Long story short, I discovered when the start menu is not working, a quick sign out and sign in fixes everything. It's slightly annoying but I think I'd be looking at a clean install of Windows to fix it for good, which I do not want to do at this point in time.
Just in case anyone else runs into this problem, this solution might work for you as well.

I'm not sure, I'm using Windows 10 Pro. It didn't install automatically for me, I was prompted to update.
Not even sure what all it adds.

Is the creators update a auto update? Because my windows just says Windows Home edition. The creator update is supposed to be automatic but its possible yours might not get it. Somehow my Windows 10 didn't get it and I had to force it with the installer. www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
